Fantasy Instant Replay Challenges (1 Viewer)

My main league has been doing this for the last five years. It was already a big money dynasty league, so everyone really brings their A game, but the replay factor ups the ante even further. At this point, I think something like 13 of the 16 owners have made the jump to DirecTV so that they could get Sunday Ticket and Tivo/capture as many games as possible. I probably spend like 4 hours a week combing for possible challenges, but it's mostly just scanning FBG/other messageboards and looking for people complaining about a blown call, then going and finding the footage. Not too bad, really. If I didn't put in the the time then I wouldn't be able to compete, though, because like I said, it's a pretty serious league. We usually don't get official post-challenge results out until like Wednesday night, but it's worth it. We have a small committee of five single guys who handle the challenges, and they split up the work. It runs pretty smoothly.

I'm sure a lot of the big money underground high roller leagues will move to this kind of thing soon. We even talked about maybe setting up a site to handle it for leagues and charging a fee.
If I am playing in a "high roller" league I think that I'd prefer that my fantasy outcomes be vetted through a replay process that is administered by professional NFL referees live at the game than left in the hands of a couple of single guys pushing the rewind button in their parents' basements. The NFL announcing crew at times doesn't even "understand" the intricacies of some of the "possession" rules in certain circumstances, yet I'd want a couple of amateurs who may not even have multiple angles to look at (unless the play in question was reviewed during the game) altering the allocation of thousands of fantasy dollars. Is this crack crew empowered to overrule penalty calls or impose them if in their sage opinion the refs missed something?
We hire former NFL referees to review all of the replay challenges in our league. We have three who agreed to help us out - the hourly rate we pay is pretty reasonable for both sides, and I think the refs enjoy doing it.
Wow, very nice. Our system works pretty well, but you guys obviously have the cream of the crop there. The league I've been talking about is pretty high stakes, but it's not that high. Impressive. That would definitely make challenge requests way more streamlined.
:lmao: Someone comes up with an innovative idea and all you can do is ridicule it.
Not sure what you mean here. I was being 100% serious.

are we talking about adding touchdowns that never actually existed and taken away touchdowns that did, because if we are this is the most blasphemy thing i have ever heard, you can't play football god those nfl teams had to deal with the refs decision and so do you.

This has worked out well for us the past four years as well. The one time I got bit was this past year when Brees had his 6 TD game. I had Brees but there was a penalty on the first scoring drive that was challenged in our league. The results of the penalty were wrong so the score on the first drive did not count due to the penalty not being called correctly. Since that one was overturned, the whole game had to be overturned because the other 5 TD would never have happened if that one penalty was called correctly. Sucked for me because I lost all 6 TDs that Brees threw that day. I still won my league because I am an FBG but that week hurt.

If no "A", then no "B". To answer another poster. Many of our scores end up in the low hundreds because an owner has to pick one game to watch all weekend and can only throw flags in one game during the weekend. Therefore, teams tend to not start more than one player per team in any given week in hopes of not getting a full game thrown out. It is a wild chess game between what game to pick and when to throw the flag. Our league is awesome because there is no chaos at all.I still cannot understand how anyone can play in a league that does not allow fantasy replay. Last year I went back to a league that did not have replay and I hated it. I really wish I had a 5-digit member number to spread my intelligence but them's the breaks.
:hifive:  best thread ever..mario is on a roll

Awesome week for me yesterday. I won my playoff championship because of the replay I challenged last night. I challenged the 4th down run by Thomas in overtime and upon further review, it was change of possession. Then, as in the theorem states, "If no "A", then no "B"," Minnesota gained possession of the ball. In our league, Minnesota went on to kick a field goal with a huge 2nd down play by Favre with a 30 yard pass over the middle to Rice. After a couple of run to set Longwell up, he kicked a successful 27 yard field goal. I had Favre and Longwell playing and the money is mine.Thank you Fantasy Instant Replay
Not only does no one care, but everyone thinks this system is dumb.
I sense some jealously from you. That is okay, you'll get over it, I think. Me, I am going to take my winnings of $50 and ride off into the sunset. Thank you Fantasy Instant Replay Challenge and thank you everybody.
I sense some paint chip munching from you. I was simply pointing out that bragging on winning by means of this preposterous system is not going to win you any props on this board. Actually, you have probably lost all credibility on any subject to anyone who has read this thread. If you don't realize everyone thinks your system is totally wacko then you clearly haven't read this thread. At least you seem to enjoy life in your world... I'm officially done trying to communicate with you there. Reason has no place in your world and you seem determined to keep it that way.
the technology's here - it's time to do it

Just lose like a man already, altering football games for your own needs is shameful and dishonest, you guys are a punch of lying mommas boys who take their ball and go home when it doesn't go ur way, but now u have developed some no matter what I win system which is so wack and in no way unbiased. But Wiersface people voted it's a democracy, what you think there aren't grudges, come off it.There should be no during the season voting that affects anything during the season, if you wanna vote on stuff to change for next year that's fine. But during the season voting that effects the matchups allows for prejudice and grudges to come in full swing, and people will just vote to screw over the team that screwed them in the last vote it's ridiculous.

You appear to be angry as well. Rules are rules and they are made to be utilized. It is better to be the biter than the one that is bitten. Like I said, I took my $50 from this past weekend when Minnesota won their game. I rule, you don't, it's okay to realize this. Plus, my league is better than your league. Would you like to join ours, we have an opening because we are expanding to 19 teams. You could be number 19.

You have not calmed down, this saddens me. Might I suggest a warm shower with some vanilla body wash to sooth your senses at this time of night. That mixture works wonders. Yes, 19 teams. What is wrong with that? I am not here to take out a measuring stick with you as I have not attempted to, you seem like you want to. I simply extended an invitation to you to compete in a friendly league. The league does cost $3,500 to get in though. And, last I checked, my league mates are not punks, we are all gentleman. If you would like, I can give you the commish's email. His name is Mahdi Zaytun. Should I extend the invite?

the technology's here - it's time to do itI forgot to mention but the commish is Nigerian, in case you were wondering about his name. I wrote him an email telling him we might have a 19th ready to go. Apparently, you seem to not be interested in the league now. That saddens me because we already have 18 FBG's so I figured you were good to go.

Na man I'm with Mrtwo94 on this one, I can't win or lose like that, I'm gonna stick with how the professionals call it right or wrong.

Well, that is too bad. We are looking to keep expanding so if you know anyone with interest, let me know. Mahdi was going to ask a couple of his cousins but they ended up in jail a couple of months ago. They did something, Mahdi did not let us know, with computers that was not good so they are not going to join now. Well, have a good night because I am going to bed but it was great discussing this topic with you. Thank you.

I've been reflecting recently about how much instant replay has helped to improve the NFL, and it got me to thinking about whether or not instant replay could similarly improve fantasy football. Almost everyone's got a computer and video editing software - that's all over the place - and video replays are similarly ubiquitous.

The more I thought of it the more convinced I've gotten that it can, and so much so that I'm instituting it in my 24-team dynasty, deep roster, inverted flex scoring, flex auction, flex lineup, all-play, salary cap, PPR, IDP, PPO, big money league that I'm the commissioner in.

Here's the deal:

You keep scoring as you have before, resulting in final scores after the game is over (and still subject to the official scoring adjustments).

By no later than midnight Monday (or midday Tuesday for MNF games), if you have a video clip that you've found that shows clear evidence that a play for which a player got points should not have resulted in those points, then you submit that to the commissioner and two others on the Replay Committee describing in detail the challenge. If they unanimously agree that the play should be overturned, those points are then removed. The Replay Committee then issues a detailed written ruling.

Teams will be limited to two challenges per regular season, and one in the post-season. They don't carry over to subsequent years if left unused.

I can't wait to see this system in action. The test runs we did in our league this year ironed out the wrinkles and seemed to make everyone happy, aside from the predictable complaining about individual replay rulings.

We've all been the victims over the course of our fantasy careers of phantom TD's, and even properly challenged plays where the replay booth just flat out wimps out and doesn't overturn a play when they should. This will help to fix that once and for all.

I'll update this as it unfolds in 2010. :sadbanana:
what FF commissioner would want this headache

This has worked out well for us the past four years as well. The one time I got bit was this past year when Brees had his 6 TD game. I had Brees but there was a penalty on the first scoring drive that was challenged in our league. The results of the penalty were wrong so the score on the first drive did not count due to the penalty not being called correctly. Since that one was overturned, the whole game had to be overturned because the other 5 TD would never have happened if that one penalty was called correctly. Sucked for me because I lost all 6 TDs that Brees threw that day. I still won my league because I am an FBG but that week hurt.
What the #### are you talking about?
:goodposting: You only overturn the plays you directly observe were not called correctly. Otherwise you have chaos.
Well, let me tell you something. The rules are you described we followed to a "T". If "A" does not happen or is negated, then "B" cannot happen for which follows "-A". Therefore, the game is wiped out. Another instance this season, not involving me, happened in a game with Warner at QB. Warner threw a TD pass, I forget to whom, but there was a blatant holding on the LT that was not called. Almost immediately after that play, our MFL message board had a post from the guy playing the guy who started Warner. The post began, "I am throwing a penalty flag on the LT for holding on the Warner TD." Our 3-person committee looked over the play, thanks YouTube, and there was clearly holding. The penalty counted and in our fantasy league the TD was taken away as were the yards.

Following the first scenario, this play happened in the 2nd quarter by the way, the rest of the game was thrown out as well due to the "if no A, then no B" theorem. So, Warner's production, due to a blown referee call, was now negated from our fantasy score.

I don't see how anyone can not understand this.
most ####ed up rule in all of FF

this league has to be a :tfp:

I thought holding wasn't a reviewable challenge?

Did you try that vanilla scented, hot shower? I knew that would calm you down so I am glad I could help. I am still hoping for the day that you and I can compete in my friends league. Ah well, one can only hope.

Is there a FIRC app yet for the i-phone or pre? I'd like to be able to my challenges in real time. I have a pre but might finally switch over to the i-phone if this app were available on it.

Thx

I hope all of your leagues are going well this year. Just wanted to update everyone that my two leagues I am in I am 6-0 in both.

Funny story. I have Gates and as you know he has been money. So, yesterday, my opponent decided to watch the San Diego game. He did what any owner would do and did not even use his penalty call during this week because Gates was ineffective. Had he watched either the Philadelphia game or the Detroit game he, possibly, could have had either Maclin's or Johnson's game lowered in point total. I won by seven points yesterday in one league. Me, I watched the Indianapolis game and was able to penalty flag some of Manning's points.

I love fantasy football replay. Best rule ever.

Nobody cares about your team, but if you think they do, there is a bragging thread pinned at the top of the page.

Tossing out new chum once you've told the guppies you're fishing? Interesting tactic. I'm intrigued.
Its like a little kid who tells a joke to a bunch of people and because one or two of them laugh, they keep telling the joke and pointing out how funny it was.
