Fantasy offensive lines (1 Viewer)

A few years ago I read an article that was trying to bring offensive line players into fantasy football (Giving fantasy points to individual offensive line players). As a fantasy football addict I enjoy most playing in leagues that reflect that of an actual football team and thus I was very intrigued by this idea as I am with IDP leagues, using return yardage in scoring configurations etc.

Since this original article a few years ago I have not heard much about including offensive line players in fantasy football. Does anyone have any information on this or information on a league that uses offensive line players. Any information that you can give would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

I am VERY interested in th eanswer here, too.

I bet Chris Smith (our OL expert) would also be interested in how to incorporate OLs or individual OLinemen into FF.

As am I. Though I fear such a system will not take root until some statistical authority breaks down offensive line play into statistical ratings on the day of the game.

I would think that 0 sacks allowed could be worth 10 points, so on down the line (ala team defense scoring with yards allowed). Not sure how something like pancakes would be scored though since it's largely subjective.

This is the only way I can conceive that it could work. The only other option I see is give a -/+ point total vs. the other teams IDP's players that are matched up against your fantasy team. Each lineman would have a preset value that it would keep all season with the highest going to the best player or teirs of players. It would be somewhat similar to Madden. But these players could be incorporated into a draft. Now when your oponent for the weeks LB's and DL's get x sacks and y tackles, that number is multiplied by the value of your line's overall ranking. Just a thought.

Here you go. I'm in two leagues here. Every position is covered and you have to manage a salary cap, contract years, etc. Very involved but pretty expensive.

Sacks allowed is good. It would be nice to see the NFL adopt some official line stats such as pancake blocks.

By the way, the scoring system really forces you to build a good offensive line. They aren't just an afterthought like Ks or DEFs in standard FF leagues. The best O linemen score more than most receivers and running backs.

Here's how we do it in one of my leages....

Team Offensive Line Rushing Touchdown by any offensive player = 4pts Blocked/missed Extra point = -2 pts Give up a sack = -2 pts Give up a safety = -2pts Total yds gained by offensive = 1pt for every 30 yds

I've thought a lot about this -- I've been chewing on creating a ruleset for an "immersive league" for several years. Given the lack of direct stats for offensive linemen, the way I was thinking might be fairest would be to do it this way:

Take each offensive line in the league each week and calculate two stats for them: average yards per rushing attempt and sacks per passing attempt. Then you take the average of these stats to get a passing and rushing protection baseline for the entire NFL for that week. Then you compare the weekly performance of each NFL offensive line to that baseline to get a % +/- the passing and rushing baseline for each NFL offensive line. Then you divide that baseline by 5 and give 1/5th of the adjustment percentage for both passing and rushing to each offensive lineman on people's fantasy teams.

Then each fantasy team adds up the total total passing and rushing adjustment percentages for all five of their starting OL for that week to get a fantasy team passing and rushing adjustment based on their offensive line play. Then they multiply th portion of their total fantasy team scoring provided by passing for that week by the passing adjustment for their offensive line. Repeat by multiplying the fantasy team's points generated by rushing for that week by the fantasy team's total rushing adjustment. Then you add/subtract the total OL adjustment to/from the team's score for that week.

You would have to come up with a way to avoid the whole division by zero thing but still reward no sacks in a greater number of passing attempts as opposed to a lesser number of passing attempts in instances where an offensive line gave up no sacks in a game. But other than that, I think it could work.

Better individual OL stats would be much nicer, though.
