I mean I like Jacob Phillips like the next guy but 35. I hope you are right but I’m not sure what led you to regard him this high? Seems like you gave a lot of love to all the rookie LBs- many of which haven’t produced at this level yet.

It was looking at the alternatives that led me to listing the high-drafted rookies.  They haven't really shown us that they're bad yet.  I just don't feel like holding KJ Wright, Jon Bostic, DeVondre Campbell, BJ Goodson, etc.  Some guys like Kwon Alexander, Avery Williamson, and Leighton Vander Esch disappointed so badly that I'd rather have one of the unknown rookies.  I also wasn't sure what to do with replacement guys who excelled - Eric Wilson, Neville Hewitt, Tyrell Adams, etc.  I ended up leaving them off my list, but if any has a starting job next season, they should be higher.  Looking at it now, Logan Wilson and Gay should probably be down with Phillips.

Some guys I might have been wrong to omit were all 3-4 OLBs, including TJ Watt.  Also maybe Benardrick McKinney.

Thanks for sharing! Including 3-4 OLBs makes this exercise doubly hard. And since scoring systems vary so widely, I don't think including them is all that useful.

I think it's ok to leave out McKinney. He could be a cap casualty of the new regime, and he doesn't look like a full-time player to me for most current nfl defenses

Yeah, great sharing, Tick! If I had a grumble (and I would have said this before today), Fred Warner should be higher. Young and fast as all get out in a defense that'll breed tackle opportunities with so much of the OL being occupied by the initial burst of the defensive line. Just my two cents.

You're probably right.  32nd in scoring PPG in Zealots scoring this season isn't so hot, but at 24 with a history of production, he should be higher.

32nd, huh? That's not so great. I was just critiquing more by way of letting you know how useful it was rather than any real quibbling.

Thoughts on dolphins?
No idea.  Baker lost snaps, New England-style defense isn't great for anyone's stats... I don't see anything there I want to rely on.  If I own Baker, Bentley, and Collins, I'll hold as depth, but that's about it.

Once getting to lb4 I would rather be too early than too late. I probably put a little too much emphasis on age at the top of my rankings, but it is priority #1 once getting to the 30's and 40's. There's a time for looking for guys like Hewitt and Adams, but it isn't for a lot of months from now.

My critiques...

I think Kiser's hold on the primary job is tenuous. I'd drop him at least into the 20's and consider sliding Reeder up to the back of the top 40.

If you're stashing a 2nd lb with the bolts it isn't Kyzir. It's Tranquill.

I'd at least list Jamie Collins above until Detroit makes a move justifying his removal. I recall his lackluster play on a bad Cleveland team, so replacing him may be the right decision but there is so much to un #### on that roster the status quo at that position may be necessary.

Littleton's tanking has been Kwiatkowski's opportunity. Similar to Detroit, too much else needs addressed on that unit to apply any resources to LB. I dont think he's good enough to sustain beyond 21, but I like his chances for a FT role next year.

Overall, great work

As others have noted this is a tackle heavy or balanced scoring ranking.  My league is big play and TJ Watt, Z'Darius Smith, Shaq Barrett and Hassan Redidck are all currently in the top 15 in scoring for LB's.

Oh, man, I know. That's a great explanation. Great work, bud!

Any additional thoughts on Jaylon Smiths on field performance? Read somewhere that JJ might want Smith to take a pay cut. His time with the team could end sooner than expected. I'm thinking about selling high on Jaylon Smith.

Jaylon Smith played poorly this year, but Dallas has no leverage with his contract and they have a habit of keeping these types around anyway.

Pretty good list. Im 9sadly) going to push Wagner lower. Brooks is listed at SLB but I thought they wanted him to move to the middle post Wagner.

Is TJ Edwards rosterable? Im sure the Eagles are drafting a LB , possibly even Parsons.

Oluokun finished as the #11 scoring LB this year in my league (big play scoring) and looked the part while doing so.  I am surprised he is so far down the rankings and would have him up in the 15th range.  I know it's splitting hairs a bit as all these guys are similar but I think he has a chance to improve on his 2020 season.

I agree - go trade someone higher on the list for him.

For those (like me) who missed it, there are four sets of IDP dynasty rankings up at FBG!

Thanks, @John Norton , @Jeff Haseley, @Darin Tietgen, @Dave Larkin - this is really valuable input for offseason decisions.
Thanks - I don't think my @Darin Tietgen username does anything here... I certainly didn't get notified.

Anyways, thanks for posting your thoughts.  I agree with a lot of your calls for sure.

I was listening to the DLF Read and React podcast, and Tom Kislingbury mentioned in passing that Micah Kiser lost his job to Troy Reeder while injured, and didn't get it back when he was healthy for the last couple of games.

Is that correct?  My memory was that Kiser never got healthy and Reeder just took over for the rest of the season.

It looks like Kiser was activated for week 17 but saw no snaps.  In both playoff games, Reeder had 95/99% of defensive snaps and Kiser had only 17 snaps each game on ST.

So... was Kiser healthy, but lost his job?  Or was he limping through and only able to play a few snaps, so they left Reeder in?

https://theramswire.usatoday.com/lists/rams-grades-report-card-2020-season-positions/ implies Reeder was an upgrade.

I missed all their December games then stopped paying attention to the Rams after Goff's injury (some help I am!), but everything I read while Kiser was on the shelf indicated Reeder played better.

I know one staffer here certainly thought that.  I was (and still am) on the fence.  I think Kiser has a lot of raw talent but Reeder is just solid across the board.

@rockactiongood news for you if true....See I told he was a hold...hahhhaaa

Good call, Gally. I was indeed holding him after my recent spate of linebacker trades. I think that would be a boon for the Jets in ZPPR24. Thanks for pointing it out. I've been checking PFF grades, too, to figure out who might be in line for some roster switching. Trying to stay on top of it as possible through these threads and some subscriptions and intuition.

Im wondering if his last 3 years injury history is starting to sour rankings?
His snap count decreased late in the season, so between that and GB's cap situation I would not be surprised if he gets cut and I would not expect him to get a starting gig handed to him elsewhere.

Right, Gally. But if you do it by position (linebacker, defensive line, defensive back) Norton has posted as of Jan. 31. Oluokun is the number six linebacker, by the way. :jawdrop: .  Oops on that deal, huh?

We will see.  I have been reading Falcons could go LB in draft which confuses me.

Oluokun didn't grade out very high in PFF. Mykal Walker graded higher against the run and in coverage, and sits as Oluokun's backup, which is never enticing. But two things: I think PFF's grades can be suspect, and I think the draft talk might be a function of Jones's contract, which they may not want to pick up, if I read things correctly when trying to suss out the situation. You're likely all right. It might be a boon to you, actually.

IDPGuys.org has their new calc up. It lets you adjust your defensive scoring so that the rankings customize. Pretty neat.
Makes me realize how vanilla most of my leagues are.

I'd commiserate, but I'm still sort of a newbie to IDP. Can't relate to different types of scoring on defense, really. I'm having a hard enough time wrapping my head around Zealots scoring.

It's interesting because all of my IDP leagues are big play scoring.....like 8 pts for sack  vs 1 pt for tackle big.........so most website rankings are relatively useless for me.  Guys like Z'Darius Smith are golden in my league but are always way down rankings.  I think it gives me a chance for an advantage because what little info out there is usually more standard scoring based so by doing the research it gives me an advantage.

Having a more customizable tool will be great but it's bittersweet if my other league mates find it as well...hahaha
