Fantasy playoffs are maddening (1 Viewer)

Is there anything more maddening than the fantasy football playoffs? You could have drafted, traded and worked the waiver wires for the ultimate team, won most of your games, and still you are left with nothing when it matters most.

OK, so who had:

Tom Brady, Joseph Addai, Shaun Alexander, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Reggie Wayne, Antonio Gates, Nick Folk, Seahawks

and played against this team:

Cleo Lemon, Aaron Stecker, Earnest Graham, Roydell Williams, Dennis Northcutt, David Patten, Anthony Becht, Jay Feely, Eagles

and lost 142 - 39?

Or you could have been lucky enough to be matched up against this team:

Tony Romo, Marion Barber, Rudi Johnson, Plaxico Burress, TJ Houshmanzadeh, Braylon Edwards, Tony Gonzalez, Kris Brown and Vikings

Well, you would have won that one 39 - 38.

And that Cleo Lemon-led squad would have had their hands full against this powerhouse:

Shaun Hill, Darren Sproles, Justin Fargas, Shaun McDonald, Samie Parker, Nate Washington, Tony Sheffler, Nate Kaeding, Browns

Cleo's TD in OT gives them victory 142 - 136.

Hey at least you were not sitting on this lineup, hoping that minor injuries would heal:

Matt Schaub, Larry Johnson, Reggie Bush, Marvin Harrison, Lavernaues Coles, Joey Galloway, Todd Heap, Olindo Mare, Lions

You would have had a royal goose egg with that squad. And you thought you had the perfect draft, didn't you?

I could be mean and give you the shirt, but I won't. It is maddening. I thought I lost my playoff game until the next day I saw Mason Crosby and the NE D carried me to victory by 4. It's all luck plain and simple..I really think drafting is overrated. I don't put too much time into it at all and am usually in the playoffs every year. So many things happen during the season to nullify what you thought was an amazing draft. Gotta love it, thats why we come back year after year.

Hehe. Indeed "that's why they play the games". But, yea... that's why my goal each season is simply to MAKE the playoffs. Expecting to win 2-3 arbitrary games in a row is a crap shoot.

It's not luck. First you have to get to the playoffs to allow luck to kick you in the pants....

Why don't you play in a league which awards the trophy after you've drafted?

That way, you've saved the aggravation.

In the league I run, we play a two week, combined score playoff. That eliminates the matchup luck factor, as well as the one bad week factor. We also award +10 to the division winners as "home field advantage".

By the way, what's the deal with the shirt? It is too small to read, what does it mean?

Well....Cleo Lemons et. al. would not have gotten you to the playoffs. If you had the guts to start that team in the playoffs you deserve the win.

You've been here since 2003 and have no idea what the shirt means? :wall:

Sorry, will you tell me? I am guessing it is some sort of dis, I usually stay out of the immature posts.

Its a fantasy football excuse shirt on why your team didnt win ...

I definitely feel your pain. However, it's all part of the fun. Was it infuriating watching Brian Westbrook fall down at the 1, then watching Adrian Peterson score EXACTLY enough points to beat me in that league while still managing to not score enough to give me the win in my other league? Sure, but it was grand ole' fun at the same time, and really that's the point.

If the point was to figure out who was the best at fantasy football and limit that ever-present luck factor as much as possible we'd all be playing in total points leagues, but hardly anyone does. Instead, we play H2H because even though the best team rarely wins it all, it's still more fun that way.

Play in dynasty leagues if you want to see your hard work get rewarded. Even then the playoffs can be maddening as there's a lot of luck involved, but at least the squad you worked so hard to craft has another shot at it the next year.

You should loosen up a bit; come on over to the FFA and talk about poop with us.

Some have eluded to this, but it's why Total Points Championships work. We still have the playoffs and the SuperBowl, but the payout is really only 1/4 of what the TPC earns. This way, you truly reward great, consistent performance(s), but you still retain an important piece of what makes the weekly matchups and playoffs fun. (But, you can still lose in the playoffs and get the huge payday, if you're, say, a Brady owner).

I won't play in a league that doesn't have this type of split.
