billy bob nonchantly taking a seat and dropping a deuce while the guy was threatening him was...shocking.

does anyone know sign language and was following what the 2 guys were saying?

The dump was awesome. Like something the alpha lion or gorilla would do when a newcomer starts making noise. I'm assuming the sign language is improved and not accurate at all.

A close friend of mine is friends with a well-known name in Hollywood. Was the Executive Producer on about a dozen movies that we all have heard of (mostly from a lot of our childhoods in the 80s/90s), and the Executive Producer for two TV series as well. We got into a conversation tonight about the show (Fargo). How I LOVED the first episode, and was a little let down by the second episode (if only because the first episode blew me away and greatly exceeded my expectations). This individuals' comment about the show:

"it bored me and I couldn't escape that it was sucking the tone/art/brilliance/originality and visual style from a great movie...I hated it (some nice acting when they weren't trying to emulate what we liked from the film....)...in short, it sucked."

I wanted to tell him how underwhelming I thought 3-4 of his movies were...but thought better of it, as I didn't want to make any waves for my friend. I just thought it was an interesting opinion from someone who was heavily involved in the film/TV business in the not-too-distant past.

Great show so far

Not sure I can decide between this show, Turn, or Vikings as my favorite on T.V. right now.

I was kinda shocked that deaf guy couldnt read lips
I'm assuming that the deaf guy isn't really deaf, and at some point he's going to speak. I'm pretty sure all the signing was gibberish.
ASL is the first languae of the actor who played the deaf mobster.

Here is a transcription of the scene - it's hilarious.

ETA: derp, I messed up that link - lol. Click this one

Not really sure why it's so hard for some of you to figure out, but the show takes place in Minnesota, but the as of now, unseen force pulling strings is located in Fargo. Hence Fargo. It's even referred to as an entity "Fargo sent us."

I think my favorite part was that he dragged the guy out of the elevator to the parking garage by the necktie. Meaning that he dragged the guy into the elevator by the tie, then rode it down however many floors with him like that.

Needs more Adam Goldberg.

So Billy Bob put pig's blood in the hot-water heater? A bit much.

Allison Tolman playing the cop is really a unique character. Don't see that often. Stealing the show among an all-star cast.

Bob Odenkirk needs a new agent.

Agree with both. Tolman's doing an awesome job.

Love love love this show. Every character is unique for the most part except for the blubbering fool that Odenkirk is playing. Love how everyone on the show is somewhat kooky in the head. So different from what every other show on TV is doing these days trying to be all real. Good to watch some entertaining story with amazing actors.

Even Tim Robbins was awesome as the one episode bully that set the stage for what was to come. After True Detective this show gets the silver for awesome cast.

Do we have a new sign language translation yet? Hopefully this is recurring schtick.
Lester: Ha ha… Sooo… What can I do for you fellows then? Cuz… uhh.. we're kinda busy right now.

(Deaf guy)Mr. Wrench: --Taps lester on the shoulder-- You are tiny and baby-like.

Lester: What is that?

Mr. Wrench: You're running a small business, in a small town. You're nothing! worthless...

Lester: --Doesn't understand-- Nope… Sorry?

(Interpreter)Mr. Numbers:Sam Hess...

Lester: --Visibly disturbed-- Uhh... you fellows family of his?

Mr. Wrench:(I can't quite make out what he signed since I can only see the side of him. I am unsure of what he is talking about at the beginning when I believe he refers to a lion killing and then a king killing of some sorts) Lion is killed/or is killing. The people under the king are killed/or is killing. You're a Joke! You're like a tiny bug I wish I could squish!

The rest of the dialogue in this scene includes no sign language. Enjoy!

EDIT: Here is a translation for S01 E02

I will try to translate all the scenes that incorporate ASL, and provide links to past translations I have completed.

If I ever miss a scene, or if you can correct a translation, go ahead and leave a comment or message me and I'll get to work :) (I actually do work as an ASL-English interpreter in the real world)

Hess Wife: "Now here I am stuck in the Yukon with my two mongoloid sons"

Lester: "Oh, they're not so bad"
Hess Wife: "I've taken ####s I'd want to live with more than them"

:lmao:

Yep, that one was automatic to me. The one I had to look up was the hit man who was the Hebrew Hammer. Adam Goldberg. That guy has been in so many things, but is so hard to place.

I agree with the rest of your post though. Even the cinematography and music are at such a high level... feel like I'm watching a feature film.

My favorite show right now

Only sad part is it is a One and done..

Hopefully the ratings are enough for the writers to take it to a different area/story line and get renewed.

I really liked True Detective. Great atmosphere, and superb acting, but I really think this is the better show all around. Very entertaining and a vast deal less pretension.

And here is Tim Robbins, they look similar and I hadn't seen Robbins in anything in years.

:lmao: No they don't.

I don't get why people aren't liking Bob O is this role. I think he's doing a great job. Not a very likable character, but he's playing it well.

Did they just tie the original movie in with this show? Oliver Platt found the case of ransom money that Steve Buscemi hid in the snow during the movie...at least thats how i saw it

Well it was good for three episodes. It's rare to see a drop-off like that in one episode.

I love how Hanks knows Billy Bob is the guy because he called him "Malvo" and he turned around. Not that he pulled him over the night of the murders and obviously knows Billy Bob is the guy. :wall: x's 100.

I just love how the cops do everything to side with the perp and not their own people. What universe is this show in? Hard to know where to start. Maybe ask Billy Bob what he was doing down there and why he was outside the house?

On a scale of 1-10, that was a 10 for spectacularly bad.

So far beyond the realm that Jon Hamm is going to scout Billy Bob for the majors next episode.

:X
