i think mike takes a lot of pride in his work...his only option to finish the job was to kill the undertaker and blame it on the Gerharts ...that leaves no other option for the head of Kansas city

That was all I was thinking of as well, which is why I sort of thought it would go a different direction as the scenes were so strikingly similar to me.

In Ep 6 after Lou and Ed emerge from the woods and Hank pulls up in the squad car Ed takes off running down the road. I think Lou said something like we know where he's going. I assumed they were going to drive down the road and apprehend Ed or go to his house and pick him up. But in Ep 7 Ed is free and on the run/calling Mike. What did I miss here?
