Fast Casual Restaurants - Firehouse Subs (1 Viewer)

I like Firehouse as a higher end sandwich place, but that brings up another question...whatever happened to Quiznos? It seems like every single one of them in my area went kaput about 3 years ago.

Is Quiznos gone everywhere?
Quiznos was dysfunctional and shady. They got sued by franchisees, they got found guilty in court of illegal business practices. In short they were horrible. Apparently they are in the process of opening company stores.

That's the truth about their selection of hot sauces. Mighty impressive. Also, I like that they rank their subs in popularity, so if you order a #1 it's their top seller.
You gotta look out for #1. But don't step in number two.

A Moe's is opening up near me. How's their mexican food? On par with Chipoltcoli?
I love that place. Most people will say Chipotle is better. Try the Homewrecker.
What are your thoughts on Willy's? I think it goes Willy's > Moe's > Chipotle > Qdoba (been years since I've eaten at one)

The best fast casual chain I've been to is Piada.

It started in Columbus about 5 years ago, and has been expanding fast. In many Ohio cities now, and I think they're as far away now as Minnesota. I read something recently they are opening in Mall of America.

I have also seen a few get boarded up. I thought they were pretty good, but their sandwiches cost eleven dollars, which probably made it difficult to sustain the business.

Highly recommend Cafe Rio if there's one near you. The best of all these places by a mile IMO.

Almost forgot about the best fast casual I've had in recent years: Naansense. Basically an Indian version of Chipotle. Had it for lunch about a month ago and it blew me away. So damn good. Very new so probably not many locations out there, but if it comes to your town, try it.

Willy's is really good too. I'd go more often if there was one near me.

In Georgia - doesn't appear to be any around. There's also Baja Fresh around here but I wasn't a fan. Willy's may be a local chain in Atlanta but it's great.

Much better than subway, not quite as good as a local Italian pizzeria (in all likelihood).
Polio is better than Subway.
I don't have a Polio by me.

:kicksrock:
Well, you're lucky because if you did, kicking that rock would be almost impossible.
I'm pretty sure I shouldn't be laughing
Yeah, that was pretty low for a cheap laugh. :bag:

LOVE their tortilla soup.
Its very good. Their Mexican gumbo is the best menu item out if all the places listed.

Opened one by my house. Would put them on top of Jersey Mikes and way ahead of Jimmy John's, which is 100% guaranteed to give me diahreah.
"#### so fast you'll freak!"

I highly recommend DiBella's Subs if you have one in your area. Limited number of locations, but they seem to be spreading.

There was one near where I worked years ago and that place was so good for fast food sub. Loved the hot sauces.

The ham and swiss was really, really good.

I like Firehouse for a hot sub. I think their Hook and Ladder and Steamer fully loaded are pretty tasty. If I want a cold sub, Jersey Mike's then Jimmy John's in that order.

I will get the Chopped Salad from Subway on occasion, but I stay away from their crappy bread.

Just ordered some.

I am a little snobbish when it comes to sub shops. I don't care for Firehouse because I like it loaded with meat. Back in the day I lived in southern NH for a time and went to some local sub shops that piled on the meat - Bill Cahill's in Hudson and Subs-n-Salads in Londonderry.

Now I highly recommend Dibellas Old Fashioned Submarine Sandwiches. For a chain they do a great job!

Panera is my favorite. There's one two minutes away, and online ordering with their app is quick and easy. There's even a side door that's 3 steps away from where they leave the pickup orders. I don't have to wait in line or mingle with any undesirables. And their food is pretty good for the price point.
Love the chicken, avocado and bacon sandwich. Reasonably healthy and very tasty and yeah, I don't have to talk to a single human being to get one.

This.DiBellas is tops.

For subs, over Firehouse, I'd still rather have Panera, Jersey Mikes, Potbelly, and Jimmy Johns. Firehouse seems overpriced for what you get. I'd still take it over Subway and Quiznos.

Yes, that's my new go to. What's great about the app to order ahead is it has all your customizations loaded and which cost more. Anything to avoid the crazy lines and clueless register order takers. I add peppercini and onion to this and sometimes switch the bread to better handle the changes.

Firehouse is by far my top sub place. Hook and Ladder on wheat fully involved is the way to go.

1. Firehouse

2. Wich Wich

3. Publix

4. Jersey Mikes

5. Any other place in the world

6. Subway if I have to
Have you been to potbelly?

has anyone ever gone to a zaxby's? I mean, are they the radio shack of fast food?
They're fast food but pretty good as well. I usually get a salad, sometimes a chicken sandwich or tenders. Comparable to Chick-Fil-A but you're not supporting evangelical bigots.
You think everyone that works there is a bigot?

Firehouse doesn't make my top 20 lunch spots. Tried it 3 years ago, wasn't that impressed with the taste/value offering.

Planet Sub keeps expanding - it is my favorite chain sub shop.

Zaxby's is the sloppy, slutty friend of Chick-Fil-A. You'll take her but you really want the hot one.

Not cheap either. Their asian sauce is pretty good though.

Pepperoncini. Interesting. I might have to try that. Looking at the app, they have a lot of interesting sandwich toppings.

I like seeing all these places I've never heard of that you guys like. Absent a local recommendation, which is usually preferable, I'll look for some of these places when I travel for business.

Only went once. It was OK. Average I would say. Not worth the $10 I spent.
Brought two teenage boys with me. Over $35 for the three of us and it was merely okay. Wont go back. Which Wich is delicious but also spendy. Moes is good stuff, its like the kind of mexican food you can make at home though but still worth having in the rotation of chipotle, qdoba, pancheros...homewrecker ftw.

I've been very under whelmed the two times I've gone to firehouse. Those that love it, what do you get? This is the sorta stuff I go for after long runs, but it's been more than a year and it's just down the street.

Planet Sub is really good. Started in Lawrence, all over KC, and branching out to Midwest college towns plus a few big cities.

I get the Turkey Bacon Ranch on white. In looking at the picture in the link it's a rare case where the real sandwich looks better in person than the photo shoot pic for the ad. http://www.firehousesubs.com/our-food/hot-specialty-subs/turkey-bacon-ranch/

I love Firehouse, but do think they have the worst value. Their sandwich always seems smaller to me than other places.

Just talking about Duck Donuts. Don't get the hype. They opened up here some time back and the lines were crazy. Finally got some and was underwhelmed. Here, we have http://www.yelp.com/biz/emilys-donuts-and-cafe-williamsburgand http://www.yelp.com/biz/daily-donut-williamsburg

One thing I will say about Firehouse, since I've never been there. They need to hire a new food stylist for their ad campaign because the sandwiches in their commercials look disgusting.
