While some people probably have their kicker already, I'm sure others have been carrying an extra position player through the preseason. Now that the preseason is over and final cuts have been made, it's time to pick up a kicker.
While some people here probably prefer to roll with one kicker for the season, I'm sure many of us prefer playing the matchups when it comes to kicker. This thread is for us.
What kicker is sitting in your free agent pool that you think has the potential to put up a lot of points (for a kicker) in week one?
Here are a few I like
Shayne Graham - Cincinnati - vs. DEN
Graham has made 87% or more of his field goals in six out of the last seven seasons. The Bengals are playing Denver in week one who gave 28 ppg last season and I don't really think they did a lot to improve their defense in the offseason. Although the Bengals finished 32nd in ppg last season, they were without Carson Palmer much of the season. With his return, the offense could be rolling against a likely horrid defense like the Broncos.
Adam Vinatieri - Indianapolis - vs. JAX
Other then last year, whoever has been the Colts kicker has been a mainstay in the top 10 for kickers. I think Vinatieri should rebound this season although he's not quite as valuable in leagues that gives bonuses for longer kicks. This is more of a season pick then it is a week one pick.
Edit to add: Remembered the Colts also kept kicker Shane Andrus. Although Vinatieri played in the preseason finale against the Bengals, he has been hurt during most of the preseason. This could be a sign he might not be ready to go in week one so definitely check injury information on Saturday night or Sunday morning to see if Vinatieri is going to play.
Josh Scobee - Jacksonville - @IND
I don't have any figures in front of me, but it seemed liked that while the Colts defense had trouble getting off the field last year, they were pretty good at keeping the opposing team out of the redzone. The Jags should be improved offensively this year with a healthier offensive line.
