Yeah, this exercise made me really think and decide how I wanted to go about it. I decided that I wanted to "reward" my favorite artists and also songs that are very sentimental to me. I have songs that remind me of my wife (several), kids (a couple) and then things like Christmas, which is just a huge holiday in our family. Somewhat spoilerish but I have one other Christmas song on my list because I think it's "better" but this one is my favorite. I listen to it every Christmas Eve sitting around the fire drinking whiskey. And Cole was just a phenomenal talent.

Off the top of my head I recall two other Christmas songs that were selected in addition to your two. Could be more.
Hmmm ... I wonder if it's going to be the second one I cut? The song I'm thinking about is, vocally, a technical knockout. It is not a "new classic" -- it's one that would've been popular when many/most Boomers were children.Somewhat spoilerish but I have one other Christmas song on my list because I think it's "better" but this one is my favorite.

My family wore out The Christmas Album. It was a staple for all my childhood Christmases. This song was my favorite too. And every single time the line "a turkey and some mistletoe" was played my brother and I would point at each other and yell "A TURKEY!". Great memory.AAABatteries:
The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You) - Nat King Cole
Had two Xmas songs on my list of 60-ish, and ended up cutting them both. This was one and very glad to see this classic get a nod.

I'm really good at guessing these. Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer?I am one of the Christmas song drafters. I won’t spoil it but it’s a very old song and it’s ranked quite high for me.
That person put a bag over their head, but when you look through the eye holes you can see that it is scorchy.Wait did someone say Tangled Up in Blue was new to them?
It’s hard to imagine avoiding that song but obviously it’s possible if you never listened to classic rock radio or had friends into Dylan.Wait did someone say Tangled Up in Blue was new to them?
New here? Seriously, just blame my parents...Wait did someone say Tangled Up in Blue was new to them?
moment. These 3 were probably my favorites. They tried to fool us into thinking that they were British, but we outted them here.
If you follow the official Yacht Rock podcast (from the guys who coined the term and did the web series), it's the perfect song for the genre. (And if you haven't seen the Youtube series, you should.)What a Fool Believes is definitely on the high end of that style of smooth rock
Lead vocalist reminds me of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah a bit with the way his voice breaks in a few places.I see that no one gave any love to my selection this round
I totally grooved on it and I was typing the lyrics to it to post here, but it was a lame post and I didn't go through with posting it for posterity. I said I could hear theremin in it -- or a theremin-like effect, anyway. But I didn't post it. So I guess I could really say it's not you, it's me.
Kudos to Tanner for pulling that from somewhere.

Not my pick, but love the bridge in this one. I was just posting in the Taylor Swift thread about her new album a week or two ago. Hop in - the water’s fine. There’s another song of hers that caused me to do a 180 on her, but I’ll say no more in case it appears.Best new to me - Champagne Problems...maybe I'll develop into a Swiftee

27 and am post toke doing the dishes
I was very confident this one wasn't getting double dipped. It's absolutely an age thing, but I much prefer the highs of 90's punk to those prior. One contribution was important to me, but not an obvious one. Front-to-back this was the best punk album of the era and this one aged the best of the lot - timely message for our current day too. They tried to fool us into thinking that they were British, but we outted them here.

His version of The Christmas Song is my favorite, and he was a phenomenal talent. I especially love his albums with Billy May. There is a compilation of their work together called The Billy May Sessions. It's great and it swings.I listen to it every Christmas Eve sitting around the fire drinking whiskey. And Cole was just a phenomenal talent.
It's a thin line with many artists - no need to apologize. Some music is meant to relax, others the opposite, then everywhere in between.I came awfully close to politics in the music thread, which is like chocolate and hummus mixed together. Ewwwwww. Sorry about that.
