Favorite later round selections... (1 Viewer)

There were many selections that were unpopular and there have been many posts so far to support that fact. However, there were also some great selections throughout the past two days, regardless of team affiliation. Thought it would be nice to devote a thread to the excitement of better things. Particularly second day selections... although there were a ton of first day winners...

1. 4.29 Andre Brown RB NYG

Great pickup for the Giants. Solid between the tackles type of runner with good receiving skills.

2. 2.11 Everette Brown DE CAR

Not sure why he fell to them, but it was a great pick for Panther fans. His speed and athletesism will help their pass rush... if Peppers leaves or not.

3. 5.27 Duke Robinson OL CAR

OK, I didn't want to comment on two picks from the same team but Robinson in the 5th.? That's a great deal.

4. 3.01 Shonn Greene RB NYJ

I almost #### when the Jets traded up to get Sanchez... trading up to get Greene made so much more sense.

5. 4.35 Troy Kropog OL TEN

Great value for TEN. I was surprised they didn't go after Robinson though.

Who were the great picks in your mind... day one or two. I know there are some homers out there that are psyched about the upcoming season, so...

Wasn't a big fan of it at first, but I love the Steelers' pick of Frank 'The Tank' Summers at 5.32.

Looks like a Samoan Bus.

I liked the Eagles pick at 153 in Cornelius Engram.

Also was a fan of the Jags taking Rashad Jennings at pick 250.

RB - Andre Brown (NYG), James Davis (Cle), Bernard Scott (Cin) <- Great value here, if he screws up again you cut him at no loss

WR - Mike Thomas (Jax), Jarret Dillard (Jax) <- Love that pick

5.05 Kenny McKinley WR DEN

7.01 Vance Walker DT ATL

7.15 Demetrius Byrd WR SD (hopefully he'll recover soon)

+ all of the Jags late picks (Mike Thomas, Jarret Dillard, Rashad Jennings, Tiquan Underwood)

I gotta hand it to the Packers and the fact that they (after selecting defenders Raji and Matthews to tranform their defense into a 3-4 unit) solidified their offensive tackle apot and got T.J. Lang and Jamon Meredith in rounds 4 and 5 respectively.

I think both these guys have the ability to start and do very well a tackle in this league with a little grooming.

I think these are two excellant picks as well. Even though Ingram was injured last year he goes to a team that uses the TE, i.e. LJ Smith, and if he's over his injury should be posting decent numbers by mid-season.Curious as to why Jennings fell so much in the draft. Around here he was rated better than several of the backs that went before him. Jags got a good back in my estimation. I think he'll surpass Chauncey Washington on the depth chart by the end of training camp. He'll battle Greg Jones for carries but I think he landed in a good situation to get playing time.

Green Bay free agent signing.

Jamarko Simmons lit up Illinois' secondary, including projected first-round pick Vontae Davis, for 11 catches and 174 yards. It was one of many huge games by Simmons against prominent programs. Still, he's projected to go late or not at all in this weekend's NFL Draft.

By 2011 QB Nate Davis SF (round 5, overall pick 171) could very well be throwing to seasoned vets Josh Morgan and Michael Crabtree and highly sought after by fantasy teams.

Not a guy for fantasy football guys but:

UDFA Rulon Davis, DE Cal.

His legs were run over by a semi when he was younger. He's also a former marine who served in Iraq.

100. Travis Beckum - Giants

107. Mike Thomas - Jags

By far my favorite late round selection is Bernard Scott. HUGE value here, if he keeps his nose clean WATCH OUT!

Vaughn Martin DE/NT Chargers 4.13 (113 overall)

Martin vs Raji

6'3 331 Martin

6'2 337 Raji

40 yard dash:

4.96 Martin

5.26 Raji

Bench Press:

33 Martin

33 Raji

20 yard shuttle

4.31 Martin (Quicker than Larry English)

4.69 Raji

3 cone

7.28 Martin (the average is 7.75)

7.9 Raji

Wonderlic

38 Martin

21 Raji

No character issues, doesn't take plays off, literally doesn't come off the field (played offense, defense and special teams)

Heres one that I liked.

Chris Clemons, FS, Clemson, 5th round by the Dolphins

The kid has ideal size for the position at 6-1, 210 pounds. He was very productive in college making plays vs the run and the pass (94 tackles and a pair of INT's) and backed it up by putting up arguably the best numbers at the combine for a DB - 4.33 40, 37.5 inch vertical. Most interestingly, he also the star of the Dolphins minicamp this week, outshining fellow rookie DB's Vontae Davis and Sean Smith.

This kid will be a solid starter by 2010 and will see the field often as a rookie. I'm not sure why he fell to round five given his college production, crazy athleticism and solid character (he was already making the calls in the secondary at the minicamps).

Not exactly a late round pick but I am becoming a Michael Mitchell fan.

I hope he proves the experts wrong. Everything I have seen on him (I admitt there is not much) makes me believe that he was probably worthy of the 47th pick.

Kevin Huber should be worth (seriously) about 8 yards of field position per kick for my Who Deys. He'll be a big upgrade there.

Bernard Scott is a love/hate thing right now :lmao:

Jennings with the Jags was a good one IMO.

AQ Shipley-C, Pittsburgh Steelers
nine posts before Shipley gets mentioned...not too shabby, i guess. many steelers fans are in love with him as well as his stout counterpart, frank the tank. great later round selections, at least from what i've seen.
