With the inductions of Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken, Jr. today into the Baseball Hall of Fame, tell us your favorite stories or memories of these players. Especially if you grew up as a Padre or Oriole homer.

I remember the young ripken days. Before he got all bulky even. The thing was, Ripken was never my favorite oriole when growing up. That was Eddie Murray, and guys like Bumbry. But I do remember a young ripken, then the whole brother and father O's family thing... which played well considering they had been a very winning franchise most of my life growing up.

People forget that while compared to ARod or whatever, Ripken doesnt look so amazing offensively. And he was somewhat inconsistent year to year. But he did things at SS that hadnt been done since Banks. Cal was truly the one that broke that mode and paved the way for the great SS's we have seen the last 10 years.

Catching the final out of the 83 series.

Homering in 2130 and 2131.

His forced lap around Camden Yards shaking hands with the fans after the streak was broken.

Homering in his final all-star game.

Just an overall upstanding ball player and person.

The clutch ceremonial HRs were great memories. Something sweet...

I went to a ballgame in '84 at Memorial stadium. It was ring day - a replica of the WS ring from the prior year. Still have that ring to this day. Not Cal specific, but worthy of mentioning here, because that ring symbolizes my growing up with the O's, before I moved to NY and also took on the Mets.
