I played duplicate bridge all through grad school, but then I moved to a rural area that doesn't have the population density to support a bridge club.  I played online for a few years, but honestly online bridge just isn't the same, and people tend to be very rude and hostile because its the internet.  It's too bad that game is never making a comeback.

From my French Canadian roots. Grew up playing 200 at every family gathering.

2 teams of 2 playing against each other. Discard 2's thru 4's (some discard 6's also, but we never did). A's & T's count as 10 points each, 5's count as 5 points, so 100 points available.. First team to 200 wins the game, best 2 of 3 for a match. At the start of each hand you bid on how many points you think you and your partner can take. Winning bidder decides what will be trump.

Lots of signals sent back and forth between partners. My grandfather was a well known cheater in his village.

My family played a game called Big 2, not sure if it's called something else on other parts of the country.

4 players are dealt 13 cards. They take turns playing single, pairs, 3 of a kind or 5 card hands. But you can only play cards if your hand beats the previous hand. Player that gets rid of all their cards wins. 2's are the highest ranked card.

Score is kept by counting the numbers of cards left in your hand reach round. 11 cards left is doubled to 22 points, 12 cards if doubled to 24 points, 13 cards it's tripled to 36 points.

Spade.  Mostly because most people know how to play it and you don't need chips so it can happen spur of the moment (usually late night after a lot of drinking).

Smear (also known as Schmier) is a North-American trick-taking card game of the All Fours group,[1] and a variant of Pitch (Setback). Several slightly different versions are played in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Minnesota, Northern and Central Iowa, Wisconsin and also in Ontario, Canada.

It is highly likely that the name is related to the German word schmieren, which is used in point-trick games such as Skat for the technique of discarding a high-value card on a trick which your partner is winning. The name might perhaps be connected to the fact that a high-scoring card may be discarded in a trick won by the player's partner, like in Pinochle,[2] or even to "smudge," which is the highest bid in some forms of Pitch.

Acey-Deucey was nuts. We’d have guys that would be throwing jewelry into the pot. We’d also have to hold the game up while someone ran to the ATM to cover the pot. Crazy game.

ETA: Blackjack would probably get my vote though. Love me some 21.

It's similar to Big 2.

The way we played it, the order of suits (from lowest to highest) was Diamonds, Clubs, Hearts, Spades, with 2 of Spades being the highest ranked cards.  When buddies and I played for cash, we'd keep track of the winners of each round.  The losers would lose a point for each card they were holding after the winner was determined.  Those points due to the winner were also kept track of.  We'd play a pre-determined amount of rounds, and then figure out how much each person owed each of the other people.  Each point was worth $0.25, sometimes we played a point equaled a dollar.

Cribbage/Euchre/Spades.

Play lots of Cribbage on my phone to kill time. Restarted doing Spider Solitaire for fun. iPhone has an app with old Microsoft Solitaire games, like what used to be on old Windows machines.

Cribbage because of the fond memories I have of it playing with my Grandpa that just passed away.

But: Hearts, Euchre, Spades, Rummy, Gin, Cribbage, etc. all equally fun to me.  Wasn't fond of Sheepshead or Hand and Foot.

Crazy swing game. Especially if there's a triple burn. My college admin had to get involved when a kid on my floor lost over 1k playing this game (they call it "in between" in Minnesota).

I never had money in HS or college but I regret not playing.  It's simple math and I think I could have made a killing.

Yep, I think that was the Filipino name for the same game. I wish more people played this.

Favorite drinking game was #######.

Many a girl went unkissed because of a five hour ####### game.

ETA: ####### = a slightly more scandalous version of butthole.

Solo, nothing can beat playing this game, with six players who know how to play.  by far the best game out of all the card games I have played.

Anyone ever play Pedro (sometimes spelled 'Pedreaux')? I've only ever run into it down here in Louisiana. It's a trick-turning game based on Pitch.

The biggest difference are that the 5s are the highest-scoring cards. It's been a really long time since I've played, and I've probably forgotten all kinds of little intricacies.
Used to play Pedro every on the bus to/from high school back in the day, and a good amount of my family used to play as well.  I haven't played in a while, as we now almost always play bid euchre at family gatherings.

My opinion, Pedro > Bid Euchre with 4 people, but Bid Euchre with 5-8 > Pedro.

Sheeps over Euchre by a hair. That's only because I don't play much sheeps anymore, otherwise there'd be no question. Might get a game going after our draft tomarrow though.
My parents church has a card night tonight. $15 to get a seat at a table. Lasagna and ribs dinner, free beer, door prizes. So 5 of us are going to play some sheepshead for like the 2nd time in about 15 years. We used to play 3-4 times a week back before girlfriends/wives/kids/jobs etc. Used to play for dimes but since we all have jobs now we're upping the stakes to quarters. jessiespano.gif

Player Euchre as a kid a ton with my friends, probably the game I played the most throughout the years including years at break at work.

Also played Hearts some, Spades for a long time on lunch as well as a game called scratch.

We played a version of 3-handed Euchre that was a lot of fun (I think we invented this version)

1. Deal out 4 hands, 3 to players and one to an empty player)

2. Turn over card from remaining 4 in deck, that suit is automatically trump and the dealer must pick it up and discard.

3. Player in first position can keep his hand or swap with the extra hand.  Player in second position can take the extra hand if player one doesn't or he can even take player 1's throw away hand.  Dealer can then do the same in order.  He then must take the trump card and discard.

4.  Play is then normal with the player after the dealer leading first.

5.  Players play as individuals. Players get 1 point for every trick they take.  If a player takes no tricks he loses 5 points.

6.  Deal rotates after each hand.  Game ends when a player reaches 21 points exactly.

7.  If a player goes over 21, their score is set back to 13 after the hand is over.

This is a crazy game, with players teaming up to try to send the third back -5 whenever possible even if it means giving up tricks at times.  Being on 20 finds players dumping tricks and trying to let the player go over.  Nothing like being on 20 and getting dealt both bowers and throwing it away.  This is tons of fun.

I'd have to say my favorite game is Barbu.  Played this with a group of 4 for a few years at work on lunch.  It takes 1-1.5 hours to get through a game with good players but man is this a fun complicated game.  It's 7 games in one.  Curious if anyone here has played this.

Gin Rummy, Hearts, and Blackjack are really the only ones I know how to play with any reasonable competency, so I went for those even though Blackjack wasn't listed.

Fun games, all. Digging this thread.
