My favorite TP song changes all the the time, but today I voted for Refugee and Don't Come Around Here No More just because I could. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were one of my favorite bands as a teenager. There are a lot of great songs in the poll, and I'll throw out a few more songs that are poll worthy:

Woman In Love (it's not Me)

Letting You Go

Louisiana Rain

Even the Losers

It'll All Work Out

The Wild One, Forever

Today? You Don't Know How it Feels and MJ's Last Dance. Tomorrow could be different. Been a fan since they did the Saturday Night Live basement tape segment. IIRC they did Refugee that night.

30 minutes ago when I answered the poll: Running Down a Dream. Now: Listen to Her Heart

So many good ones. Not sure what my favorite is, but "walls", "yer so bad" and "running down a dream" never seem to get their proper due.

Voted American Girl. He has so many great ones. One not mentioned yet that's worth mentioning is Love is a long Road.

His 1st song is still my favorite : American Girl"Well she was an American girl/Raised on promises.
Yeah, that's just a great song with a phenomenal opening line. Petty is one of those artists I love, even though he doesn't have that many songs most would consider amazing. This poll kind of proves it out.....lots of really, really good songs, but few that are iconic. At least IMO. Still one of my favorite artists.

A few songs not mentioned that I really enjoy:The Apartment Song

Higher Place

To Find a Friend

Yer So Bad is one of my faves:

"My sister got lucky, married a yuppie / Took him for all he was worth / Now she's a swinger dating a singer / I can't decide which is worse"

Good stuff.

I always thought Petty was just OK. Since I put Petty on my Pandora a couple of years ago I now really enjoy his music.

"The Waiting," followed closely by "Refugee." What a songwriter.

Love Mike Campbell's dead-on Roger McGuinn impersonation with the 12-string Rick on the opening of "The Waiting." :money:

Lots of great songs and hard to pick just one. Finally went with Don't come around here no more, because I've loved it since the first time I heard it. I am not as fond of his stuff from the Jeff Lynne years.

Voted for The Waiting in the poll, but A Woman in Love (It's not me) is my favorite. My daughter plays in bars, coffee houses, and the like sometimes for extra $, and she does a nice rendition of "Face in the Crowd" by TP.

American Girl. Love the drum intro to Refugee. Wildflowers is up there for me, too. Man can write a pop song.

Petty - Gainesville

Tebow - Jacksonville

The first winter I was in Gainesville, WRUF played a promo with Tom Petty where he just said "Christmas in Gainesville. I drove my car into Lake Alice one Christmas"

Glad to see my fav - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uroKI4lWuT8 - "I need to know" got a decent amount of votes, GD that song brings back some really, really good memories and kicks some ####### ### too.

(don't know how to name the links like before yet ...)
i just learned that yesterday. Before you hit the link button, type "I need to know" in your post. Then highlight "I need to know" and then hit the link icon and type in your link, and it will show up in what you wrote.

Its funny with petty. At times i will skip when his song comes up on shuffle or the radio, other times i love his songs. Just have to be in the right mood i guess. Don't really have that wide a swing with other artists.

Sometimes I feel like I take Tom Petty’s music for granted. He really is an all time great musician.

He takes simple music structure and makes it new and interesting. If you’re an amateur guitar player, you should get the tabs to a few of his songs. A lot of them are easy to learn and sing along with.

For the poll I chose “Mary Jane’s Last Dance”, because of that nasty guitar riff between the verses. If I hear that song on the way to work I’m doing that riff in my head all day.

Petty was my first concert back in 1995, and we are going again next month to see him again.

Voted Mary-Jane, but could have been about 10 different songs...

Thanks Simey! This way seems so much more convenient and logical way to do it than before.
