Rumor has it he will be making his announcement before his charity golf tournament in Mississippi.

I want brett to return, but more than anything I want the drama to end.

I'd settle for just the new threads to end. :boxing: :P

You think he already knows what he's going to do? It's pretty lame if he already knows and he's just refusing to say until tomorrow.

Im so excited, and I just can't hide it, im about to lose control and I think I like it. Like it.
I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it, I'm about to lose control and I just shat myself and I think I like it. Like it.

I don't want him to retire (I'd like to have the option of having him as a backup in my dynasty), but GB's done squat again to improve this offseason.

Offensive line is still bad, disgruntled top WR (let him go & they're probably worse than 4-12), went cheap at RB (which I'd of thought if they were doing that, they'd spend elsewhere).

If I were him, I'd retire and if he said it was because GB made no effort to improve the team......I'd agree.

I just see no reason for Favre to come back to play one more year on a team rebuilding. Put me in for Favre retires. Then goes and shoots an 84.

The way I hear it is he is having a press conference concerning his charity golf tournament. He may or may not announce his decision then. He has told Thompson and McCarthy though that he will have a decision by next week, possibly by the end of the weekend. Just might not be by his press conference tomorrow a.m.

For god,s sake i hope he retires , he is finished and looks like a moron when on the field.

Agreed he was one of the best but when it s over it s over.

Here's the latest Favre interview. The portions relevant to his possible retirement are the first few questions:

Question: Is it possible Favre is stalling in order to force the Packers to cut or trade him?

Answer: “I don’t want to play for anyone else. I never asked Ted Thompson to release me or trade me. I wouldn’t do it. It’s way too important for me to start over somewhere else, even if it’s for a year. I can’t believe people even think that. People who know me know that I’m as loyal as there is.”

Q. Would Favre come back for the $10 million salary? Or perhaps for a chance to eclipse Dan Marino’s NFL record for career touchdown passes? (Marino finished with 420 and Favre currently has 396).

A. “Looking at it from my perspective, and coming back, if no one expects us to do good or to compete for the Super Bowl, what do I stand to gain by coming back other than financial gain and possibly breaking a record?

“Am I that type of player? Am I that type of person? I say no. I wouldn’t come back for the money or to break records. That’s sort of my dilemma right now. If I felt like we really could compete for the Super Bowl, I would come back. Or am I coming back just to play and to have fun, and in the process maybe we lose. Last year was no fun for the fans or for the players, and nobody wants to go through that again.

“Besides, if I was coming back for the money or the record, I would’ve said I was coming back a long time ago. There wouldn’t be anything to consider.”

Q. Are you worried about the offensive line’s ability to protect you?

A. “It’s a concern in the sense — call me crazy if you want — not that I’m afraid of getting hit, but that I want to win. Of course, I don’t want to get beat up, but we’ve got a new offense going in, so players like (guard) Will Whitticker are starting all over. It’s like he’s a rookie again. He’s got great potential, but it’s going to be different for him. Scott Wells may have to move to center full time. I think he’s a fine player, guard or center, but at some point you ask yourself, ‘Who are you replacing guys with?’ From a coach’s standpoint you have to say the right things, that we’ll be competitive and we’ll win, and I truly believe Mike McCarthy will do a fine job. But really, what have we done to replace the guys that we’ve lost on the line?”

Q. What does Thompson have to do to convince you to return?

A. “I’d hate to think they sign this guy and that guy and we end up 4-12 again. Or they get the so-called players we need, from my end, and then I lay an egg. I wouldn’t expect that to happen but if all the pieces are in place and you don’t win, that’s not good, either.

“I definitely don’t want to beat up the guys that we have on our team. The guys that we have are hard workers and determined to win and all that, but I don’t see right now where our offensive line is better.”
Now what I am getting from this is that if Favre comes back, he is only coming back to the Packers, and he is only coming back if he feels the team can win. The area of the team that he is most concerned with seems to be the offensive line; he didn't think he had adequate protection last season or that the line could create enough running room to keep pressure off the passing game. Now the Packers have made just two moves this offseason that may help the offensive line. The first was resigning Kevin Barry, who may be a starter at guard or tackle but is probably not going to be anything that special. The second move they made was in the installation of Alex Gibbs's blocking scheme. The success of that scheme in the running game has been well documented, but I'm not sure about how exactly it functions as far as pass protection goes. Now the Packers may draft a highly-ranked lineman in a few weeks, but Favre is expected to make his decision in the next few days; I don't know if the draft will affect his decision much if anything. Also, as far as I know, the Packers have only really looked at Charles Woodson recently among the available free agents. Maybe that signing would excite Favre, but he seems to be specifically targetting the offensive line. I don't think the Packers are looking to sign any impact linemen, and I don't even know if any good linemen are still available in free agency. Thus I don't think the Packers can really make any moves that would improve the statement they have made for Favre before he makes his decision.Does resigning a lineman who to this point has been a backup and installing a new blocking scheme give Favre enough confidence in his protection that he thinks he and the team can succeed this year? I really doubt that, and I have to believe that he's leaning toward retiring based on what he's said here. That being said, Favre has a lot of confidence in his abilities, and it may do enough to make him forget his issues with the line and elsewhere if he thinks the team will improve just enough to win those close games this year. I'd put him at about a 75% chance of retiring in the next few days.

One last thing: let's go easy on attacking and defending Favre as far as his character goes. I don't think that contributes anything at all to the conversation.

:goodposting: Snorlax and good article.I always had a feeling Favre was coming back until I read his comments and concerns about the offensive line. I still think he is coming back but it is now more 50-50.

You know, in a way this kind of reminds me of the way Barry Sanders retired. Got tired of losing and not liking the direction the front office was taking the team, not putting the Lions in position to make a Super Bowl run. Barry was close to Payton's yardage record but walked away not caring about it and leaving the money behind. Kind of a similar situation here for Favre, walking away from the career TD record and leaving the money behind. At least Brett got a SB ring, so his career has a little more fulfillment than Barry's did. I wish Brett could have gone out on a better note though, because he was a class act his whole career and deserved a better ending than this if this is indeed the end (and I think it probably is).

Better do the 'ol :scared: and hope that the Green and Gold Mafia didn't hear you say that. Seriously though, Favre is a warrior and one of my favorite NFL players (even though I'm a Vikings fan). His 'tude and ferocity is simply hard to find in today's NFL. That said, he has been trying to carry the Packers for the past 2+ seasons and is looking worse and worse doing it. The "purple" fan in me hopes he returns...so our DBs can collect the extra 5-6 picks in two meetings in 2006. The NFL fan hopes he returns so that I get a few more chances to watch him play....with the volume off on the TV, so you don't have to listen to game announcers licking his boots for 3+ hours. The "realist" in me though says Favre retires. The Packers are no better than their 4-12 season last year, and if Javon Walker goes "T.O." on them past Camp and the pre-season, the absolute only reason to watch the Pack this year would be to say farewell to #4, since his team would be going nowhere except a second-straight trip into the top-five of the NFL Draft.

I hope he plays another season and throws 30 INT's up to Week 14 only to see Aaron Rodgers light it up.

I would like to know what Brett Favre's screen name is on FBG. I only ask because he may read these boards and laugh at the idiocy spewed at him.

Brett :hey:
