Favre could end the season on suspension (1 Viewer)

Brett Favre could end the season under suspension, suggests ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Mort says that the investigation into Favre's allegedly inappropriate interaction with former Jets sideline reporter Jenn Sterger could move very quickly. Sterger is cooperating and NFL Security will meet with Favre if/when they have enough information. Still, the investigation is expected to last four-to-six weeks. Favre will surely appeal, making it unlikely that he'll end the year on suspension.
Huh. Even if he does not end the season on suspension, surely if he retires, this incident could be the last thing people remember about Favre.

Assuming he's found guilty (and right now these are just allegations), I'd be surprised if he was suspended this season. He'd appeal whatever decision came down and those appeals typically take weeks.

I need to brush up some more on this whole story, but something just seems off about it.

It was 2 years ago and is just now coming out? Considering he was a member of the Jets when this happened, wouldn't they be subject to disaplinary action as well?

What exactly would he be suspended for? The personal conduct policy is supposed to be for repeated offenses, and he wont even be charged in any court of law.

He doesn't have to be criminally charged to violate the personal conduct policy of the NFL. I have to wonder if the Williams' boys suspension that the NFL could never carry out have anything to do with how the NFL handles this matter. Will another Minnesota judge step in and stop this one too?

I'm guessing sexual harassment. I don't think the NFL needs to wait for a legal charge to be handed down, though. Roethlisberger wasn't charged and he got hit with four games.

Whether you agree or disagree sexual harrassment is at the top of the list and because of the Jets and the President/Owner writing the NFL conduct policy as we speak over the Ines incident...this really blows.

He is supposed to have multiple incidents to trigger the policy. As far as I know this would be incident 1.

Roger Goddell is just waiting on Farve to finish a game with an INT, so he can fulfill his destiny of having his last NFL pass be intercepted.

That's where the massage therapist and her allegations would come into play. If the NFL can prove Favre was guilty of harassing her as she and her husband claim then you would have a pattern of behavior.

Not true at all.

in the nfl you don't need to commit a crime to be suspended under the personal conduct policy.

the female was an employee of the jets and that is enough for favre to be suspended if goodell thinks he's guilty.

Assuming he's found guilty
Of what?
Would you consider sending Sexually explicit text messages to an unwilling recipient a crime? The most likely issue he will be suspended for is Sexual Harrasment. The NFL can't allow players to do this sort of thing to teams employees. They don't have to do a witch hunt, but they have to investigate and punish reported cases in order to avoid being targeted by a class action law suit.

It's not just coming out, I heard about it last season. I think at that time it was when the story was on tabloid news, like TMZ etc.

When you listen to the voice mails he left, from his tone it sounds like they have a relationship. He is very casual and doesn't sound pushy or anything like that. She allegedly kept everything, yet didn't come forward with sexual harrassment until after he left NY. Maybe he did harrass her, but it's also not out of the question that she was smitten with him and kept everything, he ended the relationship, and she became a woman scorned.

Then again...is Sterger pressing charges? What makes you say that she was unwilling to receive them?

The title of this thread is misleading -- if you read the quote, Mort says that its unlikely that he'll end the year on suspension.

The only real impact of this investigation is whether it becomes a distraction to Favre and/or the Vikings this season.

Unless the NFL makes Favre drop his pants in front of the Commish, I don't see how they can prove 100% that it's him.
They can't trace the source of the text/photo messages?
- "That's not a picture of me."- "Someone stole my phone and sent that text without my knowledge."- "I meant to send that text to Dr. James Andrews but I hit the wrong button. Oops."Nothing will happen to Favre, just like nothing happened to Greg Oden or Chris Cooley.

They didn't really sound like him to me. At times they kind of did but other times it didn't sound like him at all. I agree with what you posted, though. It's not difficult to believe she may have been a willing recipient of Favre's offers assuming he actually made them. Like it or not, it happens all the time with women who are near athletes either as team employees, reporters etc.

Its not a crime if the person is of age.

I think your on the money there.

"Someone left those voice msgs of my voice and from my number without my knowledge"As Bus Cook would say: that dog don't hunt.

There's nothing resembling harassment on the voicemails.

Does it have to be a crime for him to get in trouble? I mean if you sent an unsolicited picture of your wang to the girl in the next cubicle are you going to be fired or suspended? Most places probably.

Depends on the State's obscenity laws.

If anyone thinks the NFL will end Favre's 7,000 game streak by suspending him over this, I have a bridge to sell you.

They know where their bread is buttered. My guess is that the investigation will not "yield any conclusive results"...

If these allegations turn out to be true, you are fighting a lost cause to not recognize clear sexual harassment and violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy with these incidents.

I think you're half right...there will plenty of evidence if the allegations are true, so there will be conclusive results. However I would guess the investigation will drag on to the point where either the Vikings are out of it, Favre gets injured, or the season ends - whichever comes first. Then Favre retires and it all becomes a moot point.

I'm not a member of a union, Favre is.

It isn't going to be the last thing people remember. 10 years from now even if it did happen people wouldn't even hardly remember it. What you'll remember about Farve is his remarkbable ability to keep playing games without missing and playing at a high level after so many games. Anyone not remembering that about Farve after close to 20 years in the NFL isn't someone I want to have a conversation with about the NFL anyway.

I think some people are missing the point here. If they're legit, the pictures, phone calls, and attempts at infidelity are embarrassing for Favre and the NFL, but if they're going to start suspending players for infidelity the NFL is going to need to go to 9 man flag football.

The issue is the sexual harassment. Favre and Sterger were both Jets employees and Sterger was being propositioned by a person that could have a huge impact, positively or negatively, on her career. That's pretty much textbook for harassment plus it's my understanding the NFL has some additional stipulations about sexual relations between players and other employees (e.g. cheerleaders).

For people that are saying there's no harassment in those messages, give me a frigging break. He's calling her and asking her to come hang out at his hotel room. What do you think that means? Play some Monopoly? You can argue the calls are fake (though I think it's pretty weak explanation), but I think what he's asking for (and therefore the harassment) is pretty obvious.

Guilty of what, I was under the impression he had done nothing wrong?
