Favre still going to play for Minny? (1 Viewer)

I'm just glad to see our arch rival go through the "Favre" drama this time and not us. Enjoy Vike fans! :nerd:

Doesn't sound like it, no.
Glazer said that he already has received multiple calls from folks who believe he is reporting that Favre will sign with the Vikings.

Glazer didn't report that, and he hasn't reported it. He only has said he's convinced that talks at some point between the Vikings and Favre will continue.

"It's my opinion," Glazer said. "I didn't report anything like it's a scoop. Is it gonna happen? I don't know. I'm not saying it is. I believe it is, but that's just based on my opinion.

"It's taken on a life of it's own as if I've reported that they have a deal," Glazer said. "It couldn't be further from the truth."

So why do so many people think that Glazer is reporting that Favre will become a Viking?

One of the primary reasons, in our view, is that ESPN has given the item major play, treating it like a report that Favre is returning. Though ESPN has chosen language that accurately (for the most part) reflects the gist of Glazer's item, the notion that Glazer is reporting that unnamed Vikings players expect Favre to join the team can easily be warped by the viewer into the notion that Glazer is reporting it's a done deal.

Again, it's not.

If Favre's wants to stay retired why hasn't he filed his retirement papers? Since he hasn't , it's a fact that he's a media whore that can't let this go. It's pretty pathetic.

I just got rid of the last headache from all the :D reading the Scotty Fargo - sho nuff iWar.

Brett Favre hates me.

From the article:

Neither Sage Rosenfels nor Tarvaris Jackson has done anything to make the Vikings feel either is the answer at quarterback. Jackson had been hurt this summer, but even when healthy he and Rosenfels have actually been outplayed during training camp by third-stringer John David Booty.
Glazier is perpetuating Jim Miller's BS. If Booty was outplaying Sage and Jackson in training camp then why is still only getting 3rd string time in preseaon. Also, Booty himself admitted that he was getting about 10 snaps with the first team prior to Jackson's injury.

What drama? Tarvaris looks horrible as ever so we'll need a backup behind Sage. No biggie.
:goodposting:
No biggie if you only goal is to make a 1st round playoff exit.
If only we'd have taken the chance on Vick!
I don't know if you were being sarcastic, but with a year of practicing, Vick would probably be better than anything currently on the Viking roster.

Shame on him for not coming to camp, providing leadership, working on timing, and working with coaches.

Shows he is more worried about getting and staying healthy for his future team than ... oh wait.

But if he signs after blowing everyone off before, it was poorly done.

Huh?I can't think this helps him or them waiting longer though.

We heard last year how long it took to get used to the playbook and the players.

Now coming in even later after doing nothing of real football work this offseason?

Yes, the playbook will be similar to Green Bay's...but not the same.

I don't think Childress was ever in GB...Reid was but how long ago?

Bevell was but as a QB coach...

But after all of the no Im not going to...and the door is closed talk..both Brett and Chilly will come off looking silly if this goes down.

Also, Cowherd had a good point this morning on ESPN Radio...and I typically hate him.

Really good teams like NE and Philly don't let leaks like this happen. Players are pretty tight lipped and so on as is the upper management.

Philly had Vick signed for 2 days before it was announced...and nobody knew a thing.

There are just hints about Favre with the Vikings and it gets out quick.

You're right, if Childress and Wilf end up backing off their earlier statements of the door being closed, they'll look like idiots and that would definitely create turmoil in the lockerroom. Re: the Vick / Favre comparison however, there has been much speculation on who would take a chance on Vick, but the tie between Favre and the Vikings has been going on for the last two offseasons. Players don't know anything, they are speculating, and it's the media creating a story where there is just speculation. Even Glazer has had to clarify that this isn't a story, it's his gut feeling. It's my opinion that Glazer feels like he missed the boat on this story while he was training for MMA or whatever, so he's trying to make some noise now.

Funny how the insults pour out against Favre when a reporter mentions his name. The Vikings or Favre have said nothing its simply one reporters opinion.

I was pointing out that it is something of a mixed bag from the Vikings perspective if he still signs. Plenty of pro's and con's but not the end of the world. Twice that I recall at GB he got tendonitis or something during TC and had to cut back on the number of throws. And he is still probably better this season than what they have. But I said at the time he should decide by his own self-impose deadline and if he is just skippign camp it is bad form.

He could have signed, gone to camp, and taken it very, very easy physically. Just running and minimal throwing.

I also think that if I were a Viking I would have closed the door. Period.

My point on the Vick/Favre comparison was that you have players talking about it in Minny...not just Glazer. Yes, they are speculating...but you heard little of that with Philly.

The Vikings org have not...and I agree to insult Favre on this is dumb. And if he comes back...yes, there should be talk about how he looks in this (insult might be strong, but can you agree he would look bad after he said no again and then still came back?)

K...thanks for the clarification.

 Yet he is called a media whore today even though he hasn't been seen or heard from.
If Favre wanted to retire and not be a media whore he could have simply filed his retirement papers and ended the whole charade. But the fact that he didn't, perpetuates the notion that he is a media whore even if he doesn't say anything. If you want to play then play. If you don't, file your papers and be retired.

The papers?

Are you kidding?

Do you think those things mean anything?

He did not file them last year and still had to ask for reinstatement from the commish.

The papers are a formality dealing with pension and such I believe.

And I also thought I heard where he did actually file the papers this year in retiring from the Jets.

Favre does his talking through "sources close to Favre" at times like this. It keeps his name alive in the media without him having to take any responsibility for it. From the article:
Those close to Favre told FOXSports.com he is still contemplating what he wants to do and is still eliciting advice from people he trusts regarding his decision. Those sources say his decision either way is far from set in stone.Favre is still working out (at least according to what he's told others) and is still keeping in touch with members of the Vikings via text. If Favre wasn't planning to keep the door open or planning a full-on return, why would he have indicated that he would continue to throw and work out? Was that simply to make sure we all keep wondering and talking about a potential return?
He's been heard from plenty. Through others. Again.

His indecision about playing is pathetic however so is calling him a media whore everytime someone reports something about him. Other than his interview with Joe Buck can you tell us how often he has had a press conference or been seen speaking this offseason?

well played shothis rumor sure flew around quick though. M brother called me from work and told me somebody just told him Favre signed. I did a quick look and told him just a rumor. For now.

The Minn. locker room is talkin, thats whats the issue here....

The franchise itself would know, and I'm sure would not leak this if false, unless a ploy to get him!

Or Favre was just jealous of Vick getting all the attention! :boxing:

It would depend on why he came back. For all we know the Vikings are begging and pleading for him to join the team. Fact is we have no idea and it would be irresponsible to comment on that situation at this time.
