Favre's crackback block? Suspension/Fine? (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

It was incredibly awful and for once Mike Tirico gets it right and just says "That's not right" which I mean to take as Goodell needs to do something about this. I know the Wildcat is new to Favre but he could and still may have caused serious injury. I think Goodell should send a big message to the league that this will not be tolerated. You could end a career with what he tried to do. Shoulder to the knee, not cool.

What say you?

Kubiak should have taken a guy on his cut list and told him I don't care how late you hit him, but do it (and hurt him) and you make the roster.

I also think that intent comes into play here as well.

Only an irrational Favre-hater would think he meant to do anything other than get his body in Wilson's way.

Doesn't make it any less of a penalty, I have no problem with the flag. But not all facemasks get fines. Not all roughing the passers get fined.

Favre didn't put his shoulder on the knee, he rolled down, and his back caught Wilson's knee. Unfortunate, and Favre should know better. But I think you fine dirty plays. I don't think this was one.

Besides, Farve probably hasn't thrown a block from the split out position since the crackback block was legal. [j/k]

Seriously, watching the play again, he didn't appear to be aiming for knees, he looked to be trying to not injure himself by throwing a strong, standup block. It looked more like a kicker tackle than anything else.

I say fine Favre AND Childress. Favre for the hit and Childress for stupidity! WTF was that? Really??? Favre, in preseason, split out wide AND asked to block?

Uh, no. No way, no how, not going to happen. In fact the DB is going to get the brunt of the punishment by his team mates for letting Favre wreck him like that...

You guys are wrong. That was dirty dirty dirty play, and shouldn't be encouraged. Favre is a hero to the masses and kids want to grow up to be just like him. Well, then they should learn the right way to play. And they should set an example and give Favre what he deserves.

$1 mil fine, 8 game suspension.

Gotta be a fine. The NFL has handed out so many fines protecting quarterbacks so they can't look the other way when a quarterback attempts something equally dangerous. Can you imagine the fine and suspension that would take place if a defender had cracked back on Favre like that?

Favre could take another player out with a billy club right now and he wouldn't get kicked out. He's not too concerned about anyone else, obviously

When I saw Favre make that block the first thing I thought of was Trent Green's block on that defensive lineman who wanted to "kill" Green afterwards, the only problem was Green still laying on the ground with a concusion. Favre should be fined, but I blame the coach for putting him in that position, I would think 99% of QBs would make that same block, seems kinda of an instinctive reaction, and I am sure the QBs don't get too much blocking experience in practices.

Laughed so loud I thought I was going to wake my kids. :lmao:

Definately a fine.

If it was the other way around, and Wilson took out Favre's knees on an interception return, the #### would hit the fan!

The DB will be fined and suspended for trying to take out Favre's shoulder.

"Unabated to the legacy."

I'm no doctor but I don't think the injury is any less severe because there was no intent. Didn't the NFL just eliminate the 5 yard facemask penalty? Intent has nothing to do with it. It is the risk of injury to the opposing player that should matter. Of course, Favre could just lay his hand upon the injured player and all would be healed.

ExactlyWho put in that play? Childress or Bevel? 40 qb who injured is shoulder last year throwing blocks?

There will not be any suspension.

There will be an assessment by the NFL and more than likely a fine assessed.

This will be forgotten.

But it is ironic that Favre playing a position that's been so protected in the last few years with rule changes lays an illegal hit like that. I hope Wilson is ok.

Pretty awful block by a QB who may not even have full knowledge of what all the blocking rules even are. But you could tell Favre meant no harm, and he went more into the guy's waist than he did his knees. Nonetheless, a terrible play by Favre. But what coach is making that call??? How stupid is a head coach for making that call?? Childress is horrible. Yeah, let me line my 40 year old HOF QB who's been back 2 weeks out on the wing and ask him to block. What kindof sense does that even make?? Good god that was a horrible, horrible call. Favre never should have been in that position to start with. Fire the idiot coach.

Deanna: “Honey, Mr. Goodell’s on the phone and he told me to chain your checkbook to your Wrangler’s”

I don't think Favre meant to hurt anyone, but it was an unfortunate and stupid thing to do. A fine makes sense. No chance of suspension.

I don't buy the ignorance/weed-eating excuse though. I don't think Favre would buy that from a LB trying to take his knees out after a Favre pick? "Gee, I haven't had to throw a block since middle school."

I was actually yelling the same thing at the TV when it happened. There is just NO good that was going to come out of that play in the preseason. Chilly proves his total and complete incompetance again. Move Gruden from the booth to the MN sidelines!

This is about the lamest thing ever. Farve's shtick is getting so old. :lmao:

:goodposting: Chili's stupidity is showing again. {sigh}
I think you all know how I feel about this call by Childress. More of the same. :thumbup:And I don't think the hit was dirty. To me it looked like Favre hit his hip and rolled down.Regardless, it was still insanely stupid.

I think Favre went low out of pure instinct - that's what QB's always do to avoid taking a bad hit. Doesn't excuse it, or make it any less dirty - it's just my guess as to why it happened.

The ironic thing is, I think that play was going to end badly for Wilson no matter where Favre hit him. Wilson was completely locked on the ball carrier - he never saw Favre coming. Had Brett stood up and hit him it probably would have de-cleated him and we'd all be talking about how Favre jacked him up.

I don't see how going low on a guy in order to protect yourself is any less cowardly than going low to hurt intentionally. Favre's been around FAR long enough to know the implications of throwing your body into somebody's knees. That is the dirtiest of dirty plays, whatever the intent. Punching somebody isn't going to end their career.

And please- let's deal with reality here. There is no way to watch that clip and not acknowledge that Favre threw himself low. Don't give me any of this other justification crap.

I'm sure he did it to protect himself, but endangering another player's career to protect the last few weeks of clinging to the last shreds of glory is nothing short of pathetic.

Almost as pathetic as all you anti-Favre dirtbags who get such enjoyment out of blasting him. He threw a bad block, but it wasn't any more/less dirty than Pollards hit on Brady. It was a football play. Get over it.
