Favre's streak may be over: says he likely can't play (1 Viewer)

While I am critical of Favre the person, I am in absolute awe of his 297 game streak.

300 would have been cool, but 297... :(

We always talk and hear of records we don't expect to see broken in our lifetime, and this one I feel is truly in that elite class.

A combination of incredible ability, skill, luck, determination, guts, blood, sweat, and tears went into this record.

I consider it one of the greatest records I've ever witnessed occur.

Congrats Brett.

P.S. I won't be surprised in the least if he at least attempts to start tomorrow night, and I won't hold that against him even if he knows he can't last the game.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre has told teammates and associates that he doesn't believe he can play Monday night, and his NFL-record starts streak will end at 297 games, sources with knowledge of the situation said.

"It does not look good," one source close to Favre said Sunday when asked about the feasibility of the quarterback playing in the Vikings' game against the New York Giants. The game was rescheduled to be played in Detroit because of the collapse of the Metrodome roof in Minneapolis.

Favre suffered a shoulder injury last Sunday against the Buffalo Bills and hasn't been able to really throw the ball since. However, with Favre, there is also some skepticism, given how he has come back from injuries throughout his 20-year career and the sense that he enjoys the drama that comes with making an unexpected start.

The Vikings will evaluate Favre throughout the day and assess the situation up to kickoff. Backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is prepared to play; he played most of last Sunday's win and took the reps in practice this week with Favre ailing.

Well, I think we may have seen his final start ever last week. I just don't see him starting any remaining games, especially if Jackson steps up and his another big game tomorrow night. This is definitely a record that deserves respect; the consecutive starts that Cal Ripken had is impressive, but for an NFL QB to have nearly 300 consecutive starts in such a physical sport is quite simply put; amazing.

On another note, probably very good news for Sidney Rice owners.

 They didn't send guys down to his house so they could bench him. If he can't play, that's one thing.

Jackson won the game last week, but it wasn't like he was better then Brett. He still threw 3 picks.

Yeah, you're right. After chasing him down all summer Childress would never be- oh.

please.......he's just being dramatic as usual.....only a fool would take brett favre at his word.
This is possible, but with a shoulder injury, if he can't get the ball down field the D will quickly key on that.Favre's appetite for a crushing hit at this point is probably a little smaller now that his final few games are at hand.A big shoulder hit, concussion, knee, etc... would be something that could affect the quality of the rest of his post football life.

it's the Giants defense. They've knocked out quarterbacks all season.

Wouldn't be out of the question if they knock out Tarvaris and put Favre back in the game.

Don't forget the hydrocodone!

The fact that Favre says he isn't going to play is the best indicator that he ABSOLUTELY WILL PLAY.

I think people finally got tired of him this year though because of the Vikings struggles. No one really cares anymore.

I like the part in this movie when, just as the pre-game show is about to cut away to start the game, the sky opens up and Favre rides down in a full-body cast on a tractor from heaven.
