General Malaise

Footballguy
It was a scorching hot blistering Saturday afternoon and the Malaise family was gearing up for their second son's second birthday party. 50 guests were slated to arrive and the Field General, aka Flaghoople, was running on fumes getting the house and food ready for the onslaught of tiny people, hungry adults and beer swilling friends of her degnerate husband.

An hour prior to the party, GM was ordered to buy beer and ice for the party, a task met with glee as purchasing beer is one of the few things the patriarch ever botches. Upon arriving at Rite Aid (the greatest secret to cheap beer prices in the country), sales galore popped into sight.

First in the cart, Bridgeport IPA - an award winning local microbrew that typically sells for 13 bucks plus was on sale for $11.98 a half rack. Beer enthusiasts amongst my guests would certianly appreciate this brew on a hot afternoon.

Next, GM spotted Pacifico Beer - a Mexican selection rating a tad higher than Corona in social circles but selling for less this afternoon at $10.99 a twelve pack.

Then, a screaming deal on St. Pauli Girl - $8.99 for 12 German beers with a picture of buxom European hottie on the bottle. What's not to love?

Finally, and because GM was ordered by his doctor to lose weight, a 12 pack of Michelob Ultra was tossed into the cart along with 4 bags of ice.

By 6pm, every beer was gone. My question to you, FBG, is this: One of the brands of beers went first. In fact, one of the brands was gone long before the rest. Which one was it and why?

If it was nice and hot up there I'd guess the Ultra, especially with as many people watching there diets as there are these days. The stuff is essentially beer flavored water, but it's certainly popular for some reason. Of these choices, I'd have probably went for the Bridgeport though.

definitely not the St. Pauli, and I wouldn't think the guys there would want the other guys there to see them drinking the Ultra. While I love the IPA, many don't like the bitter taste, especially the women. Pacifico is the answer. Exotic enough with a bland enough taste to cater to the masses.

I'd bet the Ultra went first, although I would have been all over the Pauli Girl. In fact, at $8.99/12-pack, I might have about cleaned the store out. I love that stuff.

definitely not the St. Pauli?
Why not? I would bet that went first. Between the girl on the front and the fact that many have had it at some point, my guess is St. Pauli.
not popular with the ladies, and it's got just enough taste to scare off many, however GM said there are a lot of beer snobs at this party, so that may change things a little.

damn... 50 guests to a 2 year old birthday party?

I also voted for Ultra because people are generally pretty ####### stupid.

I'm telling you, Rite Aid consistently has St. Pauli Girl and Becks for 8.99 and 9.99 every time I go in there. I like both those beers a lot.

You and me both, buddy. Usually those and Heineken are around $6.99/ 6-pack, $11.99/ 12-pack here.

not popular with the ladies...
Didn't even think about that. If the ladies are tossing down the beers, I'd think Pacifico is the answer. If it's mostly the boys doing the drinking, St. Pauli Girl.

If there were a number of women at the party, then the Ultra went first. More men? Tips the scales towards the BridgePort.

i'll be damned. i learned something useful today.

2 reasons I picked the Bridgeport:

1) I've never had it and every beer is worth one try

2) Aside from St. Pauli fresh in Germany, the other three are crap

both men and women were drinking beers...however, I also made a bunch of pina colada smoothies with strawberries, pineapples and mango rum added. Very popular with the ladies. these were done before the beers.

i started a thread about Rite Aid over a year ago (got pruned I guess) extolling the incredible beer prices they have there. The one close to me sells Fat Tire for 10.99 a twelve pack routinely. You can't touch that price anywhere else in the city.

i'm going to investigate this at lunch today. although, after the concert last night, i'm not sure my stomach can handle looking at beer right now.

In that case, I'll go with what I've seen around here at parties with beers as well as blenders: the micro (in this case BridgePort) disapppears first.

I enjoy a good IPA on a hot summer day.

For other beers I always have Pilsner Urquell on hand and I just picked up some beer from Nicauragua called Tona. Ain't ever had one before how are they?

Out with it already.
alright, alright....Your vote:

Pacifico [ 8 ] [15.69%]

Michelob Ultra [ 24 ] [47.06%]

Bridgeport India Pale Ale [ 11 ] [21.57%]

St. Pauli Girl [ 7 ] [13.73%]

And the correct answer is :drumroll:

MICHELOB ULTRA

Proof positive that the FFA is the smartest collection of message board geeks around. Nothing gets past you guys.

I was frankly shocked by this. Before heading on my little diet, I always mocked the Ultra drinkers, resorting to the "You know how I know you're gay?" jokes to friends who would ever consume one in my presence. They have such a negative stigma, but we ran out of these in like an hour. And it wasn't just because I'm a drunk either....I was so busy attacking the kids with water guns that I had very little time for brew drinking. And most of the chicks were downing the hybrid Pina Colada smoothies I made.

I guess I'm getting old....

Most of the guys I ride mountain bikes with are in the beer snob realm, but for some reason a few of them have the habit of buying Natural Ice on sale at Rite Aid for prices typically reserved for generic cola. The higher alcohol content in the cheap swill seems to be the major attraction to the "Natty Ice".
