FBG Shark Live Mock Draft Round 4 (1 Viewer)

With the 125th pick in the NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints select:H.B. BLADES, LB, PITTSBURGH
I criticize the quality of this draft way too much. This is good value. There's a good chance he's just a 2 down ILB, but there's a better chance he's a pretty good one. Can't beat that if you're New Orleans in the 4th round. Excellent pick.

I'm just going to do New England and PM bigreese.

4.28 New England Patriots select Zak DeOssie, ILB, Brown

DeOssie has nice measureables and intangibles, and NE needs some depth at LB. I was torn between a few players, but maybe Zak reminds of Bruschi (will also make his name on special teams) so much that I just couldn't resist.

4.29

The Titans select Ramonce Taylor, Texas College, RB 5-10 1/8 195 4.5 spd

Explosive, big play threat with very good hands and can be a weapon as a receiver

Doubt he will be on their draft board...but he's a great value at this point...need someone to compliment Lendale

4.19 (118) Carolina (Biabreakable) - David Ball WR New Hampshire

PM from Biabreakable.
This guy broke Jerry Rice's college records. Biggest draw back on him is only posting 4.71 speed. A bit slow for a Wr yes but I wouldn't exactly call that slow either. Lets look at his other measurables:

33 reps in the bench press. This guy is stronger than many line backers and defensive linemen.

3.9 in the short shuttle. Clearly quicker than any other player in the draft even if it is just a fraction of a second I think it is somthing to pay attention to in a game of inches.

6.59 in the cone drill. Also the fastest time posted by any Wr this year. Ball has a lot of agility.

Considered by many to have the best hands of any Wr in the draft with spider man like mitts.

Strong charecter and work ethic to go along with obvious results on game day based on his track record.

I see Ball as being worst case a player who can contribute similar to what Proehl has done. Best case could be Steve Largent. I am very intruiged by what this guy may be able to bring on Sundays.

Positives: Has excellent leaping ability and soft hands to reach and extend for the ball outside his frame … Has marginal playing speed, but shows outstanding agility and balance competing for the ball … Not fast, but is able to elude second level defenders with his body control … Times his leaps and uses his track skills to win most jump ball battles … Hard worker in practices and shows good field awareness to locate and settle into the soft areas on the field … Does a very good job with his head fakes to set up the defender and much like Ricky Proehl (Colts), he is savvy enough to sneak past his opponent and get open when working underneath … Best when working in the short-to-intermediate areas and could be more effective as a slot receiver at the next level … Gets his feet down when working along the sidelines and does a nice job of adjusting and coming back for the ball on the quarterback scramble … Will make proper adjustments in his routes to get open … Uses his hands with force to get a good push off the jam and does an effective job of screening defenders off the ball … Has the hands and body control to get to the pass on controlled routes and slants … Has the hand/eye coordination to look the ball in and shows enough touch to pluck and snatch … Natural hands catcher who is good at securing the ball before turning upfield … Uses his body adjustment skills and leaping ability to go up and over the defender to reach the ball at its high point … Has excellent focus to make the acrobatic catches with defenders all over him … Will not hesitate to take a punishing hit if it means he can get to the ball … Can extend, reach low or behind to make the grab … No receiver in college maintains relationship with the ball in flight like Ball, as he seems to block out the oncoming tackler and shows no flinch going vertical to make the tough catch in a crowd … Strong runner after the catch who can easily run through cornerbacks that fail to wrap him up … Even without good timed speed, he gains positive yardage after the catch by fighting hard to move the chains and shows good forward lean … His body control and hip snap leaves lethargic defenders grasping at air … Needs to improve his overall strength, but he gets good hand placement and pad level to block and sustain along the line … Goes after second level defenders with a vengeance and can deliver a jarring open field cut block … Uses his frame well to shield the ball from defenders … Is best when catching the ball in stride, as he has an array of moves to separate.

Negatives: While Ball shows good strength to break tackles after the catch, he has marginal overall muscle tone, especially in his arms (very thin) … Smooth-skinned athlete with adequate thigh and calf thickness … Gets to top speed with a rolling start, but lacks suddenness or explosion to immediately beat the cornerback on his initial surge … Has very good hands and determination to get to the ball, but tends to take soft angle cuts and rounds his breaks while lacking the functional quickness to elude (relies more on moves to separate than acceleration) … Sets up defenders well, but will generally lose the foot race in the open … Does well academically, but will struggle with a complicated playbook and needs more than several reps to retain … Can settle underneath and has good hip snap, but will take false steps, negating his change of direction agility … Struggles to gain separation on deep routes and is more effective working underneath … Has had recent problems with left patella tendonitis and further medial evaluation might be required … Good cut blocker, but lacks the upper body strength and hand punch to prevent the bigger defenders from pushing him back into the pocket when blocking in-line.

Compares To: Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona … Ball is nowhere near as fast or strong as Fitzgerald, but both maintain incredible focus going after the ball and making body adjustments to reach the pass at its high point. Ball has the natural hands that let him get to balls that are nearly impossible to catch. If he only had speed, he'd rank among the position's elite.

Thanks. The Saints are pleased with their haul:Dwayne Jarrett / WREric Wright / CBDoug Free / OTTroy Smith / QBH.B. Blades / ILBJay Alford / DT

4.30 (129) San Diego (Chaos Commish) - Dallas Baker, WR, Florida
Thanks, I was napping. I like Baker. I don't get all the ciriticisms. Great hands. Makes big plays. Sharp route running from my observations. Very coachable. Works hard. Reminds me of Michael Irivn in a good way.

4.31 (130) Chicago (-X-) - Darius Walker, RB, Notre Dame

 :lmao:

What, you really think the Bears will go into 2007 with only two RBs? Not so, my friend.

This guy is a nice replacement for T. Jones and will fit well in a RBBC with Benson, as Lovie Smith tends to rotate RBs by series rather than by down. He's a touch smaller but with room to bulk up a bit, has better hands (one site boldly claimed he has the best hands of any RB in this draft, another said his hands were WR-quality) and has a similar running style: finds and hits holes well with good vision, cuts back well, takes on defenders, doesn't run out of bounds; he blocks fairly well, runs good routes as a receiver and has a 40.5" vertical leap!

He may have questionable ball security, but that is definitely a correctable deficiency. Although he's not a burner, he's a chain-mover, just like T. Jones. This guy is a steal at the bottom of the fourth round due to his versatility, plus he's a year younger than most RBs, as he came out as a junior.

At 4.35 Baltimore Ravens select Courtney Brown, WR, Auburn

He and Demetrius Williams will be the starting duo in a year. Mark Clayton will be a terrific #3. :lmao:

:lmao: Wait.. who in the heck is Courtney Brown?

I think my radar has been jammed.

This guy is not even rated. You do a search for him + auburn and all you come up with is a empty player card that he might have been a corner back?

Interested to hear CC explain this one.. but I think it is safe to say this guy might have lasted a few more picks...

Drafting sleepers is one thing. But I cannot even find a pulse on this guy.

:useless: He has had major off-field issues and was kicked off his college squad. I don't see him being drafted at all, particularly because of the new personal conduct policy. He may get some looks as a FA, but he basically screwed himself.

That's because he meant Courtney Taylor, not Courtney Brown.

:wall: Thanks -X-

I was really hurrying to go water my concrete in the middle of the desert.

Courntey Brown is a CB out of Cal Poly who has great measureable and played well too. I was considering both, and got the names screwed up. Courtney Taylor is a nice player.

Sorry guys went drinking after work ...

4.36 San Fran selects Quintin Echols DT, Kansas State

Niners need a NT and although he is limited, he may eventually be able to contribute.

I think he'll be drafted...some sites have him ranked in their top 20 rbs...someone will take a chance on him

Ok, guess I have to finish up this project.

It's been fun and interesting, and as a truly addicted draftnik, props to all the participants. You guys know your chit sheets.

So thanks for the time, effort, feedback and...

Lemme think about this last pick here.

Ravens have added Kalil, Moses, and Courtney Taylor. They would love to find a tackle prospect. I am familiar with the remaining names, and I kind of like one of the small schoolers, but I was sincere about my somewhat low expectations for these OLs. So, I can't go there. I feel almost the same way about RBs. Andy has pointed out an RB might be smart, but... we've cleaned out the ones I like and between Musa and old Mike Anderson, I think they can wait a round if the draft falls this way. I look at their depth chart and read my favorite source for this kind of thing, and sure they could add depth to the secondary (and maybe I already should have), but I think they need to go best available. That roster is pretty balanced.

So to end our little project.

The Ravens take my favorite head knocker to understudy Ray Lewis

Desmond Bishop, MLB, Cal

I'm not sure he'll play over Peterson. And I'm up for more rounds.

Yeah, I see your point, but as much as Lovie Smith says he likes Peterson, he only seems to get an opportunity when an injury occurs. No reason why they can't use all three, as Walker is supposedly a much better receiving threat.

In reality, I suspect the Giants might take a look at Walker if they don't get their Tiki replacement early. Any team that passes to the RBs often would be wise to consider him.

My work schedule has been crazy lately guys. Have not had much extra time.

I think another round might be interesting but perhaps not as much as doing another 4 rounder like this one. I know I dont have time for that now but just thought I would throw it out there anyways.

Hmm..that makes 6 people who want to do more. Should I ask around and see who wants any more? Or should we not beat a dead horse here?
