FBG Sunday Night Mock

pw = fbg4

If it doesn't show up on the list, you can sort it by "listed" and look at 7/23 1:53pm"

Great draft last night guys (except for that one Rock Cartwright pick :lmao: )

Hope to see some new faces in this one. Make sure you get in on it if you haven't yet.

Also, if the league is full and you'd like to participate, go to the league page (link), and post in the top right that you are a replacement in case someone ends up not being able to make the mock.

So you know, the round time for selections is 2minutes until the 5th round, at which I'll switch it to 1min. So just keep that in mind.

You may need to register for an xpert sports account if you don't have one.

Then you just follow the link, search for the mock name, and hit the JOIN button.

Then, just go to xpertsports.com tonight and you should be auto-logged in, and on the front page will be a link to the mock.

Im just chillin here with some Sam Adams and could use a mock draft to get the juices flowing so Im in.

I would like to do a test run for Anarcys league. Wonder if we could set one up later in the week?

The scoring for that is pretty cool.

Great idea, MLBrandow. We should set up some other league types another night (ppr, 2QB, IDP, etc).

Looking forward to tonight's mock :football:

Please post results (or post a link to results).

Very interested in seeing some all footballguy mocks

(will be at work otherwise I would participate)

dOOd why so stringent on the time limit huh? That barely gives me time to dig for my night caps and might cause some errors. How many total rounds??

16 rounds

Looks like we may need a rep for the 7 spot. Post in the league.

I fixed it... check the xpert mb in the mock window for info on how to get to the working draft. Everyone is here, so we should be rolling in 5.

Well, we need a replacement

I bailed because it wouldn't let me in again. I signed up in the 8 spot but it wouldn't show my nmae on the draft list. So figuring I hadn't actually signed in, I tried to sign in again, only to find out I was already in. But I wasn't! Don't feel bad. It doesn't make sense to me either. :loco: And on my page it still shows team 6 and team 8 as empty. :nerd:

It's even showing the players drafted in the 8 spot as being on my roster. this is too weird.

I noticed that date problem earlier... should have said something :yucky:
least we are okay now.I'm testing out this RB QB TE spot... so far I'm not sure I think it's a workable idea...

plus I ended up with Palmer / Gonzo rather than Peyton / Gates

Hmm, interesting idea... But since Gates went a little early, this might be a case where adjusting your strategy may have been the right move

Yeah, it would have been a better strat to try around the 8 spot.

Anyway, I'll see how it goes. I've been pimping the RB WR WR strat in the last dozen mocks and every team I get looks like a championship team. Figured I'd try something new out.

Definitely, that's what this is for. I didn't expect to draft the players I have so far.. this will be interesting to analyze later.

I think my team from last night will be hard to top. That was a stacked team.

After looking at every squad, I actually like mine the best. While I'm sure not everyone would agree, it's good to have that feeling on my first mock of the year :)

(Keep in mind the Favre pick was by the computer..I was planning to pick Kitna in that spot.)

Draft did not go the way I wanted it to. Picking from the 5 slot I found myself coming up short fairly often by a pick or 2 on players I was targeting.

Thats what this is for though to work the kinks out.

Post draft observations:

I wanted to draft from the 5 position because I think the top 5 Rbs are all solid in LJ SA LT Portis and Tiki. I wanted to see what kinds of players and combinations I could accumulate after assuring I get one of these 5 Rbs to start with.

I also highly regard Gates as a huge difference maker. There are some questions about how he will do with Rivers now instead of Brees. But my opinion is that Gates made Brees a solid Qb not the other way around. Brees was on the bubble before Gates emerged. Thats why they drafted Rivers in the 1st place.

So when my 2nd round pick of 2.8 came I wanted a 2nd Rb most of all. However by that time the Rbs left that I considered draftable were CT Rueben Dunn FWP Bell. I didnt feel comfortable with any of them justifying my 2nd round pick. So I looked elsewhere expecting that at least one of these or another similar player would still be there for me in the 3rd round.

Steve Smith Chad Johnson Fitz and Holt were also all gone before my pick. Holt was taken with pick 2.07 if he had fallen I probobly would have taken him. Moss TO and Harrison were all still there but I feel all 3 have some minor question marks surrounding them that kept me looking back at Gates.

Gates would not last until my next pick at 3.05 so if I wanted to have him I needed to take him here. After a bit of consideration I decided to take Gates and come back to the Rbs or one of these 3 Wrs if any of them were still there at pick 3.05

TO Moss Harrison Boldin Rueben and Kevin Jones were all taken before my next pick.

I considered taking Wayne who may outperform Harrison this year or Hines Ward. But after thinking about it a bit I just bit the bullet and took Chester Taylor who I think is a risky pick but has the upside to perform like a top 12 Rb. This league lets you flex a Rb or Wr so getting 3 viable Rbs is somthing you really want to do.

Wrs got hit heavy after this pick and I still did not have any yet. By the time my next pick 4.08 came Ward Wayne Chambers Roy Williams DJax Santana Moss Plax were all gone.

I looked at deviating from the run on Wrs. Brady and Hass were still there.. Rbs were Bell and Benson.. I didn't like this situation really at all. I decided to go with somewhat boring but solid Donald Driver as my 1st Wr taken. I expected the Wr run to continue and I wanted a guy I could count on. Driver does not excite me but I think he will have a solid year with Favre once again.

Pretty much all the other players I considered were then taken before my next pick. Bell and Benson, Brady Housh Mason Andre Johnson. Wr tier is now starting to dry up. I considered taking Hass or McNabb but instead I took Branch who was one of the only recievers I project to get near or more than 80 catches this year left.

Overall my picks are not exciting me. Nothing has dropped to me as I was hoping might.

After this pick I see a slew of Tes some of who will probobly be competitive with Gates get taken. Whoever hits on thier Te picks I think has beaten me in terms of value now due to the other players they have gotten before.

Hass McNabb and Eli are all taken before my next pick also along with Dayne Duece and 3 of the rookie Rbs Addai Maroney and DWilliams. Also a few Galloway and Javon Walker but Im not missing them.

I still dont have a 3rd Rb and I am feeling behind the run again. Looking at Rbs I see Lendale White Rhodes(addai gone) Chris Brown Ahman Green/Gado Gore/Barlow CuMart/Houston is about all thats left. Some Wrs I like here still Rod Smith Coles Kennison Evans Michael Clayton Matt Jones. So I think I can wait for Wr 3 and its more important to get a 3rd Rb here.

I decided to take Lendale White. Chris Brown asking for a trade is sending strong messages imo that the writing is on the wall about White taking over. Risk again. This is why I mock so I can see where I need to change things.

I will continue later if I find the time. I think I did a few things with the later draft that helped out my team. But I definitly would like to have a stronger start than this.

Definitly a good learning experience that you cannot get from just looking at ADPs imho. Picking from the 5 slot against decent drafters is more challenging than my initial impressions thought it would be.

Taking Gates in round 2 from this draft position really put me behind the curve I think. I think Gates is worth a 2nd round pick but not a good fit for drafting from this position. Will look further to see if I could have done better by still taking him there but I kind of doubt I could improve my draft much from this so I think its better to look elsewhere with that 2nd pick. Probobly should have taken one of Moss TO or Harrison instead. I just wanted to try somthing different and see if I could make it work.

Picking from the 5 hole is probably going to be just that this year IMO.

Outside of the big four, Tiki is in for a bit of a dropoff IMO, and without a super stud back, and missing out on the top of the elite WRs really limits what you can do.

I'm really liking 1, 2, and late-middle (8-10). 12 is the pits and 5 is also one I'd like to avoid.

Solid draft all around though guys, despite our "technical difficulties" :wall:

I felt good about my team, but really didn't like how I felt after taking Dillon. Suddenly I knew I had to get Maroney and likely in a round much earlier than I would prefer. This mock has me thinking I'll try to avoid the Carolina, NE, and Indy run games this year.

I'm pretty happy with the team I ended up with:

QB

Vick, Michael (10.04)

Kitna, Jon (13.09)

RB

Brown, Ronnie (1.09)

Foster, DeShaun (4.04)

Williams, DeAngelo (6.04)

Rhodes, Dominic (7.09)

Staley, Duce (14.04)

WR

Johnson, Chad (2.04)

Williams, Roy (3.09)

Muhammad, Muhsin (8.04)

Lloyd, Brandon (12.04)

Williams, Reggie (15.09)

TE

Heap, Todd (5.09)

McMichael, Randy (9.09)

K

Wilkins, Jeff (16.04)

DT

Colts (11.09)

I always wait really long to grab QB's and it's never really hurt me. I think Vick and Kitna is a good combo.

I'm happy with my RB's - I like Brown as a #1 this year, and Foster/Williams/Rhodes could be a great #2 or flex. Staley in the 14th was just for value, I could plug him in as an emergency bye week replacement and maybe get a some TD's out of him.

I was targeting Roy Williams in the 3rd, so I was glad I got him there, he and Chad will be a great 1-2 punch. I waited on my backups but I think I got pretty good value for where I drafted them.

I grabbed Heap and McMichael since we have to start 1 TE. In a real league I might try to shop McMichael around to owners who waited too long on a TE.

Wilkins in the 16th is just more evidence that you can always wait until the end for a kicker. I don't typically draft a backup kicker or DST, I just don't see the point. By the time their bye week rolls around, someone on my roster will be expendable so I can always free up a bench spot if necessary.

Drafting from the 4 spot I liked my first three picks, until I had to pick a rb2 in the fourth.

S Alexander 1-4

T Owens 2-9

A Boldin 3-4

In retrospect I wish I had taken rb2 in the third, taking W Parker, J Jones, J Lewis or W Dunn. I just don't feel safe with Tater Bell as my second rb. There were still quality wr2's at that pick. ( D Mason, A Johnson, Houshmandzadeh)

Had computer glitches later in the draft. My main objective was to see how that RB/WR/WR/RB vs RB/WR/RB/WR start would work from this position.
