FBG's Players That Are Hyped In The Shark Pool (1 Viewer)

I only go back a few years but it seems like certain players get hyped up in the shark pool more than the general FF population. Has the history of these players been more hit or miss.

A couple I can think of:

Moats= miss

Marshall= hit

Too early to tell:

Bradshaw

S. Rice

L. Robinson

Dillard- seems to be the 2009 version

What hyped up shark pool players can you think of?

Chris Johnson had a little hype thread..

Matt Jones was legendary

Gore...

I'll think of more...

Reaching back, I remember that:

Ferguson was hyped as being primed to become to become a stud. Join the Ferguson revolution!

Maroney was hyped to be a top 10 RB after his rookie season.

Cadillac Williams was hyped but I can't remember whether he was injured his second season.

Remember Kevin Barlow?

Does anyone remember the short lived Ronald Mealy hype?

REGGIE BUSH: he certainly has not lived up to the god-like status he received.

Kevan Barlow is the first I can think of where 90% of this board though the guy was going to be a monster, and only a few dissented. Boy was the mob mentality wrong on that one.

Marion Barber is a more recent one. He hasn't quite panned out to be the STUD everyone hyped, though he's been a bottom tier RB1 for FF purposes.

Tatum Bell was hugely hyped on this board, he was an absolute bust.

Koren Robinson was supposed to relegate DJax to an afterthought...

Cecil Collins, Ben Gay, Reshard Lee all had quite a following.

There have been a few cases where a minority hyped a player that the mob railed against... Boldin when he was a rookie, CJ3 last season, heck Edgerrin as a rookie and LT as a rookie - the majority here said they both would be busts - even FBG staffers, I think someone mentioned Turner - who I felt prior to his being drafted by SD had all the potential to be a stud RB.

There have been a few players, like Marshall, that maybe one or two posters like, and no one else knew about, that turned out very well. Brandon Jacobs falls into that group as well.

I've found, in most cases, when the mob hypes a player, they don't pan out as well as they are hyped.

The best thing to do with this board is use it for information, but not to let others make your decisions for you.

In the TE department Ben Troupe and Ben Watson have both done time as the darlings of the pool for a while including many of the staff.

Who was the WR on the Chiefs a few years ago who had about 7TDs on 20+ catches and everyone thought he'd break out because of that production?

Those types of threads are always interesting and often heated and amusing. While most of them are misses most come pretty cheap (FA pickups, mid to late round draft picks) so if they hit great, if not no big loss. You obviously have to keep everything balanced, take in all the information and don't "overpay" for hyped players but it's always good to have certain guys on your radar. I'll take 100 Matt Jones misses to get a couple Gore, CJ3, Turner hits. Keep the hype threads coming!! :boxing:

oh...Lee Evans was another good one..

Guys I picked up in dynasty after hearing about them primarily on FBG:

Willie Parker

Laurent Robinson

Rocky McIntosh

Wes Woodyard

Johnnie Lee Higgins

There have been a few IDP misses, but mostly I was looking to churn the end of my roster to see what might stick.

You need to realize hitting those free agents or late draft picks often yields nothing. Nailing the guys who were going in the 1st round of rookie drafts isn't really the strengths of the Shark Pool, it's finding the way under the radar guys.

Parker was a huge FA acquisition for me, before I dealt him last year for a 1st rounder.

Well so far it seems to be a mix of hits, misses and to be determined.

I just thought it would be interesting to go back a few years and see if the shark pool hype machine has been :moneybag: or  .

Looks like either way it is  and make your own decisions.

Freddie Mitchell made a couple of hyped up runs....why would I mention him? Well because...HE'S BACK!!!

Freddie Mitchell Wants to Make NFL Comeback --

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports WR Freddie Mitchell is back. Again. On his blog, he posted a video of himself titled "Freddie speaks to his fans and the haters." In the clip, the People's Champ explains that he's training in Florida for the coming NFL season and that he's talking to "a bunch of coaches" to help him get back in the league. Freddie goes on to say that "everyone is so surprised" that he's not in the league and adds that his unemployment is not because of his mouth but because of things that are not under his control.

The thing is, it's hard to differentiate actual hype from non-hype because of the large amount of posters in the Shark Pool. Just because there are 25 guys hyping Tim Hightower on a sleeper RB thread doesn't mean there aren't 175 that are scoffing and not bothering to post about it.
