FBGs vs Kasparov- chess game- Draw agreed to (1 Viewer)

OK, as Wilk says, we need to slow down and look at this now. We might be getting close to a win here. Obviously f4, but what else?

The first thing that occurs to me is f4 Bf6 Bxf6 Rxe4- or some variation of this. He sacks the bishop to get rid of one of the pawns.

f4 Bf6 Bxf6 Rxe4 Bg4 Re5 Bh6 Rh5 Bf7 Rg5 I don't know how we win this.

Bf6 won't work for him, i don't think.

...f4

Bf6...bxf6

Rxe4...bd4+

Kf1...be3

That's gotta be a win for us.

I think he plays bc3 or bc5 after f4. Will look at those.

What are your thoughts behind ka6?

Well first off I don't know how to protect our e pawn after f4 and Bc3 (I haven't even looked at Bc5)

But second, it's the same as before- his rook and bishop can't move- so perhaps we can take advantage of that.

Ka6 threatens Kb5 which I don't think he can allow.

But I'm not sure I can make it work.

Ka6 Kc6+ Kb5 Rc5+ Ka4 (Kb4 Rd5 Bd8 Bc5+ Kc3 Rxf5) can we make this work?

Not sure Ka6 works...

...ka6

Bf6...bxf6

Rc6+...kb5

Rxf6...looks like a draw

I think f4 looks good, but i can't figure it out very well.

I do think this looks pretty good...

...f4

Bc3...rd1+

Kh2...f3

...but i don't know how to bring it home.

I also think this looks pretty good...

...f4

Bc5...re2

Bd6 maybe...f3

... But i also don't know how to bring it home.

(Btw...My wife tonight now refuses to play these games out ("too boring"), so i am now much less helpful and liable to miss something. Take my input at about 50% of previous value)

As best i can tell, after f4 if he doesnt move his bishop to c3 or c5, i think we win. Of course Kaspy probably knows that, too. I dont see any easy way out for him to flip it on us, though.

I vote yes, but your call on whether we want to see if anyone else has any alternate ideas.

There isn't another piece of ours that makes good sense to move that i can tell, i don't see any downside, i see some real upside, and beginning John's "pawn march of doom" seems  right in line with his view of where he wanted this to go.

Good question. I dont see a winning answer to that.
if tim/our move was the other pawn to e3 I could see maybe his bishop to c3? think he is going to look for the draw here and would give up that pawn. I really am not good though...

It may be that we have to take a draw here, but before we do we're going to explore every move, every angle, if we can.

Possible moves for us:

f3

e3

Re7

Rd8+

Bg5

Be7

Bd8

Ka6

Kb8

Big fan of this thread, I'm a n00b but this has been fun to follow. Great work, Tim.

I feel like I can walk all over Tasker now

Re2 Kg1f3 Kh1

Now if Bg3, Rc1 and if e3 Bxe3

That's as far as I've gotten. There should be a win here but I can't find it.

Wait!!

I may have found it.

Re2 Kg1 f3 Kh1 Bg3 Rc1 Bc7!

That's the move I couldn't find.

Now Kg1 e3 Bxe3 Rxe3 and I THINK we can guard our f pawn in time to capture his d pawn. I think.

I wish he would. Bxf6 Rxe4 Bg5 and hopefully we could protect that pawn with the bishop and eke out a win.

But after Bg5 I expect him to play Be5. And that leads to a draw.
How does it draw?

...bg5

Be5...f3

Then what does he do?

But maybe it goes?

...bg5

Bc3...rd1+

Kh2...e3

Rc5...bd8

Rf5 (or rc4)...bc7

Is d pawn is dead and our f pawn is protected?

Moving our bishop does no good because Be5

How does it draw?

...bg5

Be5...f3

Then what does he do?

But maybe it goes?

...bg5

Bc3...rd1+

Kh2...e3

Rc5...bd8

Rf5 (or rc4)...bc7

Is d pawn is dead and our f pawn is protected?
Bg5 Be5 f3 Rxe4 Rd1+- you're right. It doesn't draw. I forgot about Rd1+

If Bc3 why not Re2?

Wait!!

I may have found it.

Re2 Kg1 f3 Kh1 Bg3 Rc1 Bc7!

That's the move I couldn't find.

Now Kg1 e3 Bxe3 Rxe3 and I THINK we can guard our f pawn in time to capture his d pawn. I think.
Maybe, but what are the thoughts behind him playing kg1 after re2? I think i would play rc8 if i was him.

Not too be captain obvious, but I think our strategy here needs to be to kill his d pawn while keeping our pawns protected.

Unless Kaspy messes up (unlikely), this still looks like a draw to me.

I would like somebody better than me too see if there is a clever sacrifice available that might get one of our pawns home.

Let's keep taking our time here and let some who haven't checked in for a day or so take a peek.

Bg5 Bc3 Re2 Rc8 not good

Bg5 Bc3 Rd3 Rxe4 Rxc3 Rxf4

There just doesn't seem to be any way to do this. I'm stumped.

Maybe Bender or Sacramento Bob will find something.
