Felix jones. is he this years a foster? (1 Viewer)

i cant help feeling like felix Jones has the potential to be this years A foster. Not saying he is the same type of runner. But he is in a position with an explosive offense where he can be the main guy. Last year foster slowly climbed up the draft boards... he still prob went mid 3rd rd in most drafts by this time last year. Felix seems to be climbing even faster and is prob going mid to late 2nd round in most..

it may seem high, but i cant help feeling he has the potential and explosiveness to wind up being a top 3 back by the end of the year

I can see the thought. I think the Cowboys, like the texans last year, would have to find themselves trailing or right in the game each and every week for that to work for Felix because I can see him getting a lot of FF work as long as they are running their designed offense or are forced to catch up. But if they are a good team this year, I don't get the sense that they will want to have Felix compiling the garbage stats.

Also, the opening schedule for the Cowboys isn't as juicy as it was for the Texans last year so it may be hard to grab that momentum and go.

I think the Felix hype is a bit overblown at this point given that we have three years of returns on his performance. The more apt comparison would be McFadden and it's going to type that kind of change to styles to make the difference that people seem to expect. In McFadden's first two years, he looked tentative, went down with arm tackles, and struggled to stay healthy. Last year, McFadden actually changed his game, looking decisive, able to break tackles (still not great, but no longer a pushover), and stayed mostly healthy. And the other thing against Felix is that I've heard him as a breakout candidate for at least three years.

There are a few reasons that I avoided Felix in the past but finally targetted him this year. In the past, he was expensive due to hype/talent but he had a lot more competition in the backfield for touches and his role was more limited. He also didn't prove he could get the ball more than a few times a game and stay healthy. This year the path is clear, he's the guy and he's going to be given every chance to be the bellcow. He's had a very good camp and the reports are glowing. The offense should be very strong... the coaching changes are a huge improvement and I like the way they've revamped their line. Additionally, last year he added weight which seemed to reduce his explosiveness..this offseason he lightened up again and has that bounce / explosion back.

So to me, it's a combination of opportunity, talent, good offense, system / coaching changes (for the better IMO) as well as physical changes in his conditioning which all seem (to me at least) to all be positive changes for the better. All the needles are pointing in the right direction, now he just needs to do it on the field. There's no question that if he can stay healthy he can be a top 10 back.

All of the projections I see have Felix with less then 10 total TDs this season. IF he stays healthy, (and that's a big if over 16 games) I don't see how he can't surpass 10 total TDs with the number of carries and receptions he will get plus goal line opportunities.

I think there is breakout potential here...and based on pre-season evidence, that has been reflected in his draft status which has essentially shot up 2-3 rounds since the opening of TC's.

But Foster was a runaway #1 RB overall in 2010, so trying to make that type of correlation is expecting a non-realistic return at this point. But, I think what Felix-backers see is:

1) Very talented RB who in the final 8 games of 2010 (with Garret taking over) averaged 100 YFS/game.

2) The goal-line RB for the last 5 years in Marion Barber out of the equation

3) An unsettled/unproven RB situation behind Felix which bodes well for a significant increase in touches

4) A loaded passing game with weapons galore that will make it difficult for defenses to key on the run game.

...while there are drawbacks in the sense that Felix-backers are banking on a 16 game performance he's never produced, it certainly is a 'betting on the come' situation and one where his owners are forecasting a performance that could make him a 1st/2nd round pick in next years drafts.

I think Felix has the potential to be a RB1 but RB2 is more likely. He will probably get hurt and miss a few games. He has talent but he also has a tendency to be on the injured list.

When the entire fantasy world seems to be so certain of a breakout, it gives me a bad feeling.

I took the chance on him in a number of leagues. I love the upside, but I could see this going sideways in a hurry.

The biggest difference this season is:a. health in Week 1b. opportunity to be the feature backBoth have escaped him in his first 3 seasons.

Foster was flying up draft boards last year too. I seem to recall a whole lot of people around here on the bandwagon calling for a breakout.

This reminds me of DeAngelo Williams before his monster season and yes I drafted him then with high hopes and yes I drafted Felix now with the same gut feeling. Both talented coming out of college but were slow to mature, had big preseasons, and blew up in their 3rd year.

So Ruuuuunnnnn Felix Runnnnnnn!!!

Deshaun foster? Absolutely
Wow, Deshaun Foster reference. And yet, looking at Deshaun's stats, it may be an apt comparison.
Deshaun only had 11 rushing TDs in his career? Thought he did better than that.
Deshaun Foster really only had about three seasons of (decent) value in Carolina, and he never did much anywhere else. He looked amazing in his first preseason before his injury, and also during the next year when he was a change of pace for Steven Davis. He started a game or two because of injuries that year and put up some big games, and had one of the most amazing TD runs I've ever seen in the NFCG against Philly. The next year, he was the main back but Davis was the goal line back. After that point, his career was plagued with injuries and 2.6 yards average carries. Thanks to John Fox though, he continued to start for way too long, while DeAngelo Williams wasn't used nearly as much as he should have been. Of course, Foster was terrible by the time DeAngelo got there though, so he wasn't scoring TD's anyway.

I know Jones has a tough match up tomorrow but I'm anticipating how the boys will officially use him in a regular season game w/ new coaches and of course MB III out of the picture. We saw glimpses in the preseason that makes us believe in the hype but we can't officially say until Week 1. Hoping for his best and "most healthy" season.

We'll have to see. I drafted him in four leagues, but I don't think I'm starting him tomorrow. I need to see a little before I go overboard with him.

I drafted Felix Jones in both of my leagues. Therefore, he will not be the 2011 version of Arian Foster. I repeat, Jones will NOT be this year's version of Foster. Good day. :banned:

Felix Jones is this years Felix Jones.. drafted too high every year. He just doesn't have what it takes to be a feature back in this league.

Not many have what it takes to be a feature back in this league (against the Jets).Let's give him a few weeks before we make any conclusions.

I got 17 points out of him tonight in my PPR. That is about the number I hoped for, so I'm perfectly happy with my pick.

Considering the opponent, I think it was a good outing. It was encouraging how strong and decisive he ran against a tough D. I also liked that he was really the only RB getting the touches, so the pre-season bell-cow hype may actually be accurate.

I'd be cruising to a win had I started him instead of DeAngelo Williams. So, when DeAngelo is your RB3, Jones is apparently match-up proof.

Did he hobble off in the fourth quarter with possibly a tweaked ankle?

I know he was back in later, but that would be my only negative, considering circumstances and opponent.

Very happy with what I saw. He got the bulk of the goal line snaps and work overall and did well with it considering the defense. Also didn't see anything tonight from Choice or Murray to suggest they'll be getting a larger percent of the carries.

I saw this as well, couldn't be that bad because he got carries and stayed in the game.

I was pretty happy with his production given the opponent. I drafted him expecting RB2 type numbers with the hope he stays healthy and produces the occasional RB1 week with a big play or two...a reasonable expectation if he doesn't get hurt and the Cowboys continue to treat him like a feature back.

I'll just reiterate what most are saying - I thought he ran pretty well for someone whose offensive line had 3 players starting who previously had started 1 game combined. He was getting hit pretty often in the 0, -1 yards territory and turned it into 2-3 yard positives on more than a few occasions. Player aggressively, despite the Jets swarmping the RBs every time they touched it. Definitely looked a heckuva lot better than either of the other RBs.

Got nearly all the touches, some receptions and goal line looks against possibly the top defense in the league on the road..what's not to like? He did a lit better than I thought he would, he's gonna be terrific this year.

I thought he looked very good against a stout D. If the amount of touches and situations he received last night were any indication, I think he's in for a nice RB2 season with a few games that place him in the top 10 for the week. That said, I'm still waiting to see him break off a run/reception that shows some of the speed he had as a rookie. I don't mind that he's added weight to become more durable between the tackles. But to be an upper-echelon runner as some are hoping he needs to have the ability to break off a long play every couple of games.
