FF Implications of 10-0 Saints and Colts (1 Viewer)

For those whose trading deadlines have not passed, this is the time to make the final squad tweaks for your playoff runs.

I am Looking for board input and discussion on the impact of the commanding conference and division leads the saints & colts may have

on contender mainstays such as : manning, wayne, colston, & brees.

for example suppose either team locks up the #1 seed and home field advantage by week 15, thereby making week 16 (SB week)

not relevant? does either team take their foot off the gas this early, bench their stars at halftime?

Colts potentially. Too early to tell for the Saints. They've got the Vikes breathing down their necks.
I was going to say the same.Saints could still be fighting for homefield. As far as the Colts, they could have things locked up by week 14 or so. However, even if Peyton only plays a half of football in week 16, that's likely a better option than any WW QB who'd be available.

The soonest the Colts can realistically clinch HFA is after week 14 (13th game). If the Colts keep winning and get to 13-0, then if San Diego and Cincy gets one more loss (most likely culprits are @Dal for SD and @Min for Cin) by then, they would clinch (they win a two-way TB with NE). This would stink for Colts fantasy owners - though I can't see how taking 3 weeks off can possibly be a good idea for the Colts.

You would think the Colts have learned from past playoff failures when they came out flat as a result of sitting their players too early. If they haven't, then they deserve to lose the first game of the playoffs.

Those talking about the Colts sitting players need to keep one thing in mind:

Tony Dungy is no longer the coach. There is no telling what Caldwell plans on doing with them, especially given their history of underperforming as pointed out above after sitting their stars. I would no assume they do the same as year's past although it's still obviously possible.

If they only sit most of the main players in Week 17 only @Buffalo, I'd be fine with that. They need to play most of the players before then, especially on offense, up to then (they can rest Freeney if he's still nicked up - I'm not worried about him getting rusty).

I think they have to let Manning and company play at least 1/2 of football. In 2005, these were the last 3 games:15 12/18 SD L 17-26 26/45 336yd 1 TD16 12/24 @ SEA L 13-28 9/12 116yd 0 TD17 01/01 ARI W 17-13 1/2 5yd 0TD He was actually an OK start week 15, but horrible in week 16 when most leagues play their SuperBowl. There is no way Manning gets that little work in week 16 or 17 this year, but a 14/20 150yards and 1 TD isn't going to win you anything.

I expect the Colts to play most of their starters the whole game in Week 15 regardless of whether they clinch HFA or not.The tricky thing about week 16 is that they play a blitzing Jets team - so there might be some concern about Manning getting hit a lot. That would be my concern as a Manning fantasy owner if you get to that week in the playoffs.Week 17 - I expect Manning to play one series and then sit.

Difficult to make much of week 16 & 17 that year what with Dungy's son committing suicide.

I think two things may mitigate these concerns: 1. Trying to go 16-0, and 2. Manning needing time to get on the same page as Gonzalez before the playoffs. No denying that Garcon has had some decent games as of late, but this team still seems like it's in search of a legit #2 wr. I think that Santi's week last week is evidence of this.
