Honestly I don't think there are more than handful of people on either side who cause trouble in the political threads and there is usually good conversation going on around it. Maybe I'm just not as sensitive to some of the sniping but I've never once used report or put someone on ignore in all the years posting here. It's a private board so I respect the right of you guys to moderate it how you see fit but it's disappointing to see this happen.
Incredibly disappointing. If you check the thread, I hadn't posted there in the last few days because it seemed to be Trump supporters being a little obnoxious and insulting, but to a certain extent, that should be allowed IMO. It was overkill to shut down the thread based on that content.

Now it is true that subscribers don't pay for this board and since it is free, the mods or the powers that be can do what they want. But shutting down all topical political discussions seems to me to be throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

I think the only thing that has brought both sides together is our utter disdain for your copy/paste from Twitter 24/7.  I think I speak for everyone when I say that we will more than gladly give up the Trump thread if it means you can't post anymore.

What did I miss?  Did Dodds delete the offending post(s)?  B/c nothing in the Trump thread seems out of line
You're correct, no one broke any rules. It is totally out of the blue.

Tbh it's sad because people of opposing viewpoints politically should be able to meet at the neutral ground that is the FFA and hash out ideas and beliefs. But it's also strange because it seems so completely without reason why this has happened.

How many people do you report each day?

90% of that thread responds to the person and not the point, IMO.  And it's full of schtick every day with people going at each other from both sides.

Not sure if you saw me post the other day but you're one of the very few that actually sticks on point and doesn't post party schtick over and over.  But you're in the small minority there.

I don't know. You could tell it was the trending towards the same crap again with hate Trump crowd.
The discussion in the last Trump thread had gone on for 16 months through a GOP campaign, a general and post election.

Posters in that thread had learned the lessons from the prior thread and IMO were decent to each other, going both ways.

In this one that went 50 or so pages things were clunky & weird, but overall things were ok.

I think I missed it but I know a lot of the snippiness had returned. Thanks for the compliment but to me it was always pretty  cool to hear people with opposing viewpoints from all over the country explain their POV. Anyway Wreck, I enjoyed the discussions so thanks for that.

This is exactly why the Trump thread went away.  When people are attacking other people, it's not OK.  Time for some of you to find a new forum.

Beyond ridiculous to try and stop politics threads, yet not permaban Tim. He's going to start needling the boundaries within hours, and his obnoxious rhetoric will start dragging down the tone of discussion in his wake.

It's time for Tim to be gone forever. It would be our greatest Christmas miracle.
!Give us Barranas !

What were the attacking posts? Genuinely don't know, scanned a couple pages and didn't see anything that seemed bad. Maybe some schticky stuff.

Maybe it's me.

The main thing I'd like to understand is what changed in the last few weeks?

People have been complaining about political threads for most of the last 15 years and people have been unexcellent here and there. No one has ever made anyone go into a thread they didn't want to be in or forced them to stay. There's been plenty of great discourse for people who want it.

Someone with mod powers decided to join the thread, and he didn't  like how his views were received.

This is how I feel. Besides obvious troll accounts, which honestly there aren't too many of and they seem to get shut down if they stay long enough, it's been all good.

Take Loan Sharks I think he's crazy on Trump but I like reading all his posts. There are plenty of other Trumpettes whose posts I like reading.

Even those whose stuff I don't find interesting I just ignore. If it's obvious troll stuff I think the mods clean it out when they can.

This place is perfect place to talk politics - you get to know some of the personalities by their alias, you can have dialogue, joke around, make fun of somebody, etc. You can't do this with people in the office, real world really.

Since the board upgrade we get fewer threads on the first page overall

It's politics season so more of those threads are political

Long running threads anout soccer, movies, tv shows, nothing, running, etc, take up over half the front page and you get people bumping them just to say page 4 save!

This means a new thread has minutes or maybe a couple hours to get traction or disappear forever.

This discourages people from creating new threads.

Good posters eventually either leave or form cliques in megathreads because nobody responds to them.

Meamwhile a small group of the worst posters continue to create new politics threads, refuse to stay in a single megathread, and carry their arguments into other threads like this one.

Those arguments got worse and worse when one of the site owners got involved

Now we are talking about how to fix things so politics posters can create all the threads they want and non politics posters can still have the ffa they want.

The logical answer is to move politics to a separate forum and increase the number of threads dosplayed on the front page.

Problem is that the political megathreads are what keep getting banned.  The site owners do not agree with your diagnosis, apparently

Yeah, that's the thing about saying just go find another fourm. There are people here I consider friends and I enjoy discussing politics with them, including many that I don't often agree with. People I've been gotten to know over a decade plus.

Expect the politics posters to attack the idea of a separate forum, as they always do. The definition of insanity is to keep doing something something

Who would do that? Politics forum would be great.

Having a single politics mega thread though doesn't really work because there is just too many topics to cover IMO.

When is the last time you came here and saw more than one or two new, interesting, non political threads on the front page that you wanted to participate in?

When is the last time you came here and saw more than one political thread with a clickbaity title?

The More You Know...

An unmoderated political forum would be even better . Maybe password protected to keep the innocents safe.

I don't know how you political guys do it.  Never felt the need myself.  You know.  To talk politics.  All the time.  Seems needy.

If you post here, I assume you have thick skin.  I am not forced into threads or arguments or even posting.  Don't take this personally, but DD shouldn't be a poster here, especially is he is gonna have thin skin.  I don't think this has anything to do with anything other than DD not liking us not drinking the Dear Leader Kool-Aid, Oh Yeah.

Interesting that this seems to be a repetitive theme. I challenge you to go back through that thread and the thread before it and find when I was rude to anyone. I also don't report anyone.
