Bad Taste

A team from the intergalactic fast food chain Crumb's Crunchy Delights descends on Earth, planning to make human flesh the newest taste sensation. After they wipe out the New Zealand town Kaihoro, the country’s Astro-Investigation and Defense Service (AIaDS) is called in to deal with the problem. Things are complicated due to Giles, an aid worker who comes to Kaihoro the same day to collect change from the residents. He is captured by the aliens, and AIaDS stages a rescue mission that quickly becomes an all-out assault on the aliens’ headquarters.

Didn't feel like something too heavy so went with this movie last night. This falls into the What the Heck Did I Just Watch category. It was cool to see Peter Jackson's first real film and they did a decent job with effects considering this was made on $10 budget but it is definitely lo-fi. It's a movie that never takes itself seriously so there are chuckles throughout and the 90 minute run time was perfect. I've seen so many cheese ball, low budget movies that this one was right up my alley and if you're looking for something to pass the time while being a slug on the couch you could do worse than this movie.

#190 - The Return of the Living Dead

When foreman Frank shows new employee Freddy a secret military experiment in a supply warehouse in Louisville, Kentucky, the two klutzes accidentally release a gas that reanimates corpses into flesh-eating zombies. As the epidemic spreads throughout the town, and the creatures satisfy their hunger in gory and outlandish ways, Frank and Freddy fight to survive with the help of their boss and a mysterious mortician.

The mid-to-late ‘80s were the time of peak King novels and adaptations thereof, and I ate them all up. Corn wasn’t the greatest of the adaptation movies, but was reasonably close to the book.
I agree Corn wasn't the greatest adaptation, but it wasn't the worst either. I think the actor who played Isaac was great and creepy as hell. It helped that he was actually 23 years old at the time, but he had a growth hormone deficiency so he looked like an elementary/middle school kid, but had a voice of a high school/college age guy. The guy who plays Malachai does a good job, too. The movie certainly could have been better and falls short in several areas, but it does give off an eerie atmosphere at times and has some semi-spooky moments. I was a senior in high school when it was released in the spring of '84. I think the movie worked better during that time/era, and for its target market at the time.
All I remember is that guy getting his hand put into a blender.

Pretty interesting bewb scenes as well. Who knew graveyards were so hot??

Forgot about Children of the Corn. Not sure if it would have made my list but I would have considered it. I liked it when it first came out but watched it a while back again and it definitely didn't hold up well.
Never even considered Terminator but obviously a great movie.
The Menu was really good, another one I didn't think about. Probably would have made my 75

Zombie horror is probably my favorite horror genre but, while I can enjoy one that is also a comedy, they usually aren't my favorites. I saw Return of the Living Dead in the theater and it was a lot of fun.

A fairly obscure movie, this one comes out of Turkey. This is a story about a group of Turkish cops who get a call to a crime scene at which point everything devolves into madness. This movie has been called the "Turkish Hellraiser", and it is indeed worthy of the comparison.

I ranked this film so high because it is one of my favorite depictions of hell in film. The movie is rooted in Turkish folklore. The movie is fairly light on plot and narrative and is one of those you will definitely come out of asking yourself WTF did I just watch. But sometimes those are the best movies and this will leave a lasting imprint in your mind for sure.

Word of warning, it's not for the squeemish. It is very gory and things dont really happen off camera like in a lot of horror. Also, a bit of trivia, there's a guy in the movie, I'll just call him "that guy". You'll know when you see him. Anyway, that's how the guy looks in real life, no prosthetics or anything. I thought that was crazy.

This movie is just pure, unabashed goofiness. Plus, one of the actresses walks around naked pretty much the whole time. It's a great movie to put on when you're in the mood for zombies, but not in the mood for a movie that takes itself even remotely seriously. It would have made for good viewing last weekend, for example.

Watched this one Saturday night. Nice build up and the conceit of never before seen backstage footage of that terrible night lends to the tension. I like devil/demon movies and this one did not disappoint. David Dastmalchian plays the talk show host who is at a critical point in his life and career so he goes out of the way to have an all-in Halloween Special with a clairvoyant, an author/psychologist and her subject who is a possessed child and also my favorite side character, a skeptic in the vein of The Amazing Randi from Carson show fame who is there to debunk and codensend and he does pretty good at one and on the other, meh,...watch the movie. :-) There is an organic emotional element that flows through the night which heightens the impact of the events. Good watch and will watch again at some point.

The best $6.99+tax I spend on a subscription in a month! I stopped hulu for this and I love it. Once this countdown is done i can offer thoughts on at least a couple dozen movies i've seen on Shudder in the last 6 months.

This is one of my last picks I added in. I absolutely loved this movie. To me it actually has a nostalgic feel to it, like horror movies I watched as a teen, for some reason. Probably why it struck a chord with me. Honestly, I thought I should have bumped it higher up my list after I submitted it. Go see it, you won't be disappointed.

I don't think you'll find more recent movie on the list, it just hit streaming on Friday!

I saw this in anticipation of it making my top 75, but it didn't but it's probably close to it. I definitely recommend it, but I feel it was a bit overhyped to the point where there was no way it could live up to the lofty expectations the internet had.
I saw it at the theater 3 weeks ago and then again this past Friday, the day it became available on Shudder. This is a new film but it is 1970s through and through. Highly innovative and there are links to real-life nefarious organizations and a a supposed Pagan God / demon. I thought it was a bit of a methodical start to the second act when I first saw it but my wife said it grabbed her right away and never let go. We're both discussing it days later, not something that usually happens with a film and especially with a horror flick. It will stay with you.

Glad I wasn't all by myself on this one. Is it the scariest movie? No. Is it particularly scary at all? No, not really. But it has Tarantino, Kurt Russell, a tasteful and refined lap-dance scene with all of the subtlety we would expect from QT, and the best live car-chase I have ever seen. More like horror-action than horror though, admittedly.
I enjoyed Death Proof. Would it make my top 200….that is debatable. But it is a stylistic action/horror film. And Kurt Russel is the man.
Watched it once and thought "meh" but maybe I should try again.
It was much better as a theater experience
I got to see this as a double feature with that intentionally-bad "aliens invade this rural community" film (Planet Terror). That was seriously a lot of fun. Campy, but fun.
Yes same here....it definitely helps watching that as a double feature. They went for the entire 70's schlock drive-in fare with these two flicks.
Also featured the fake Machete trailer that was later made into an actual movie complete with a real trailer.
The same for Thanksgiving, which was just released this fall

This is such a fun movie. If you haven't seen it, see it. If you aren't in love with Samara Weaving by the end of this you ain't human.

Just showed that trailer to my wife. It's on the docket for this weekend now

Directed by Dan O'Bannon? He wrote a lot of superior stuff - most notably Aliens.
The trailer to this movie looks awesome.
Apparently the casting director had only one qualification - How loud can you shout/scream?

The movie is really, really terrible...Fun effects work though.
