SEC Hoops. I'm now 3-7, and both selections last night weren't close.
Pretty piss-poor 0-2 night last night. LSU was in command early, in what looked to be a rout of Auburn, and then out of nowhere they went ice cold. Won by 7 in OT, but an 8.5 point favorite being tied at the end of regulation, as bmj correctly pointed out, ain't much for being on the right side of things...Arkansas got absolutely manhandled @ Kentucky. I shouldn't have touched that one, but I was bullish on the Hogs after their win/cover Saturday, and thought what I'd seen out of Kentucky recently was worth gambling on. Should have known better for a # of reasons, not the least among them that Saturday to Tuesday, like Thursday to Saturday is a tough turnaround timetable, and a better, deeper, longer team playing at home...well, that game was set up to be a blowout, and I gave the Hogs too much credit towards keeping it closer. Stupid.
After last night, there's no good reason for anyone to think I'm onto anything here, but I'm going to give myself one more chance based on tonights two-game slate, which is tough to pass up. I'm very, very optimistic about both of these games.
8PM: Tennessee (+2) @ Georgia: Tennessee is 8-9/1-2, Georgia is 9-8/0-3, but that's where the similarity ends. Tennesee's 1-2 SEC record reflects an upset @ ranked Florida, and losses @ ranked Miss. St. and vs ranked Kentucky by a combined total of 7 points. They are tough as nails and Georgia got blown out by Alabama and Florida, and lost by 11 @ Vanderbilt. Saturday to Wednesday means Tennessee should be rested, and chomping at the bit to finally beat up on an inferior opponent.
9PM: Mississippi State (-2) @ Ole Miss: Mississippi State is hitting their stride after losing an SEC opener shootout @ Arkansas, they beat Tennessee and Alabama at home back-to-back, and are deep, sporting the best frontcourt outside of Kentucky, as well as standout 2-way PG Dee Bost, who's found his shooting touch. Ole Miss is coming off a double overtime loss @ Auburn, in a matchup of lower division SEC squads. They dismissed their best player, and don't have much after him. They are as thin as Miss. St. is stacked. Should be a blowout.
I've got a standard wager on Tennessee, but I'm going BIG on Mississippi State, for enough units to make up for all the crap losses that have plagued me.
Good Luck!!!
