JD - this might be a dumb rookie question, but why does BetUS post one line but then jack it up when you sign in? Sometimes it is a 30 cents jump on top of their already awful favorites lines. not dumb at all. many books, especially all the big public ones (bodog, betus, etc) do what is called a dual line. if they tag you as sharp, betting steam, etc you get profiled. for example, the lines i see at betus are not what most people see. books that do not do dual lines (5dimes), will put people they think are sharper on a delay. so for example, joe public hits submit on a wager and it gets processed that second. someone they have profiled, hits submit and it could be 10, 15, 30+ seconds before it is confirmed. this allows them to make sure there is not a big move on the game. thus the infamous "the line has changed" message.

The only thing I could not figure out is how to set Cris in the "open" column. Pinny is the default and I dunno how to change it.

Thanks for the detailed insight. I can't imagine how they would have me profiled as a sharp, but maybe they have me tagged because I play mostly favorites. I'm down money there and just trying to clear a rollover before yanking my money and moving it somewhere else.

I suppose, but almost all of these games are virtual pick 'ems (3 points or less). I'd rather take my shots SU.

on NFL teasers (my opinion as different people approach teasers different)

Based of a -110 vig, a sports bettor will need to hit around 52.4 percent of their wagers to break even. Using the standard 6-point teaser as our example, each individual teaser side would now need to cover 72.5 percent to break even. Essentially, those extra six points need to boost your win percent an additional 20 percent to make a teaser worth playing. The first thing is toss out using a total. Even though some may disagree, there is no total worth moving six points that will boost your win percentage 20 percent. Sure, a dog to the under or favorite to the over has some correlation concepts, but we are trying to keep it simple in this example. Some basic tips to follow when betting six-point teasers in the NFL: favorites of 7.5-8.5 down to 1.5 – 2.5, thus crossing both 3 and 7. Also, move the underdogs of 1.5-2.5 up to 7.5-8.5, thus moving cross 3 and 7.

something like Sports Options is an amazing tool, but unless you are betting volume and bigger $, better off using some of the free tools on the web. it is catered more toward the book, mover or middler versus the average bettor.

This is exactly the reason teasers should be used. The 6pts are more valuable with the low totals and 1.5 - 2.5 spreads.

Some background on the NFL teaser info.

All books used to have +100 for 2 team 6 pt teasers. There's maybe 1 or 2 books that still give a player those odds now because the books realized they were losing money to bettors who were crossing the 3 and the 7 with those bets. Books did not adjust the 3 team 6 pt teasers, those stayed at +180 so they were still profitable with a higher variance. ~2-3 years ago pinnacle, greek, and 5 dimes all started shading their football lines so that 6 pt teasers couldn't be used to cross the 3 and 7. example, line is +2 (-110) on a game, that's the widely available line. These books would post the line at +1(+100) so when a player teased 6 pts it only moved the line to +7. Last year bookmaker, arguably the biggest book online, moved their 3 teamers from +180 to +160 and several other books followed suit. I'm not a genius but when the books are taking all these measures to avoid accepting bets like these i'm going to do my best to find books that still offer +180 and bet them for as much as i can stand.

4 team 6 pt teasers are currently +300 pretty much everywhere and that's still an +EV bet but i'm sure that line will also change in the future.

The NFL is arguably the hardest sport to beat. Betting teasers is a good way to get action on a lot of games and know that you're placing bets that will return + money in the long run.

Trying to cross 3 and 7. Detroit and baltimore game are already lined at 3, if a line is +3(-125) i'll include it but other than that they're already giving the 3 so teasing to 9 isn't as valuable.I personally also like to tease games line +4.5 to +5.5 to get to 10.5 or 11.5. I get the 7 and 10 when i tease those numbers and to 11.5 i get the 11(2td's compared to a fg) The higher the total on the game the less value the 6 pt tease is worth. Preseason games have low totals because the offenses are mixes of 1st string, 2nd string, 3rd string, etc guys that aren't used to playing with each other. Tends to lead to lower scoring games increasing the value of the 6 pts.

I'm with you, lump. I've been a teaser player for a loooooong time, since back in the days when they were thought to be sucker bets. I'm just not entirely comfortable playing them in the preseason with so many no-names on the field. That's hard to cap.

I think it comes back to what you are betting for....If you are betting to make money, then I see his point. If you are betting to entertain yourself (If I walk away with money, great) then I see your side of the argument.I just gamble to pass the time to be honest.

You make good points. I have heard a lot of positives about NFL preseason, but I have never been good at picking preseason games. Of course, I am not really good at picking anything but that's another story. At any rate, let's say Steelers win this game 24-21. Wouldn't it chap your ### if you got the Steelers -4 and lost because of that sequence (a backup QB audibling into a handoff to fricken Mewelde Moore at the goalline with no timeouts)? I know it is a small sample size...

I think taking the Seahwaks to win the NFC West at +350 may be worth a shot. A lot of talk lately about the Hawks getting V-Jax, and i think between Hasselback/Whitehurst, and a defense that is a little better than average, they have a shot at winning the West
