I'll kick it off with a song about those nutty brothers from the show The Year Without a Santa Claus.

1.1 - Snow Miser, Heat Miser - The Hellblinki Sextet - (Child's Christmas - A song by, for or about kids)

I didn't realize you were in this draft :excited:   :bye:
I didn't either.     I had signed up, and then deleted my response about 30 minutes later, but I reckon Eephus saw my "In" before I deleted it. Yesterday I got a notification that my name was in a thread, so I looked and it said I was up first in the draft. :o  Ebenezer (Eephus) pulled me back in, so here I am :bye:  .

Mix requirements

Core versions of most covered 25 songs randomly selected from fivethirtyeight.com's list of the 25 most covered songs
(2) picks from the following traditional carols:  Away in a Manger, Silent Night, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
(2) picks from the following pop standards:  White Christmas, Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

Other songs from the traditional and standards category (excluding the 6 mandatory songs)
(1) traditional/religious carols (written before 1900)
(1) pop standards (written between 1900 and 1963)

(3) Rock-era originals (written in 1964 or later)

(1) Instrumental - any song, any era (but excluding the 6 mandatory songs)

(2) Wild card songs - any song, any era and including Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter, December, New Year's etc. (but again excluding the 6 mandatory songs)

(1) Sad/depressing/wistful/anti Christmas song - your definition

(1) Child's Christmas - A song by, for or about kids.

(1) Novelty song - your definition

If there's popular demand, we can add a 4th option for the mandatory songs in either or both core categories.

ETA: ...but we should decide before the sale ends

Are the six mandatory songs two from those two trad and pop standards plus two other picks from the list?

(And thanks for adding me to the draft.)

The six mandatory songs are:  Away in a Manger, Silent Night, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, White Christmas, Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.

The mandatory name is an artifact from the original set of rules before they were loosened a bit and re-titled as core songs.  Now you only need to pick two out of the three songs for each category (traditional carols & pop standards).  These songs may only be drafted in the two core categories.  They're not eligible in any other category.

Other than these six songs, songs can be drafted as many times in as many categories as they're eligible.  Using the two picks made so far as examples, "Mr. Snow Miser" can be drafted multiple times in childrens, rock era, instrumental and wild card categories.  But "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" is only eligible in the core/mandatory pop standards category.

And :drunkbanana: because that always helps to make explanations clearer

That doesn't really help me.  Sorry.

That seems like four songs, not six.  What am I misssing?

NV drafted Santa Claus Is Coming To Town at 1.02

He now has to choose either White Christmas or Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer to close out the pop standards core category.  The song he doesn't pick is dead and can't appear elsewhere in his mix.

I don't think I'm going to be very spotify friendly.  Thought about it but many of my personal faves aren't there - My (& my poor put upon kids') old Xmas playlist is about 1/3 local files.  I'll toss up a zip somewhere when we're all finished though.

I normally don't like first round clocks but since this isn't a competition, here's the plan.

Kumerica OTC until 2PM EST.  If he misses his window, he can pick whenever and we'll adjust the draft order accordingly.

@Bruce Dickinson on deck.
