the The Colts plan to sign free agent RB Jonathan Wells.

It's uncertain how they plan to use the former Texan, but Indianapolis' preseason run game has been unproductive. Wells could end up playing a big role if Joe Addai and Dominic Rhodes don't get their acts together.

I really dont get why he couldnt find a job for so long...

and even moreso, I dont get why the Colts signed him now, rather than waiting 2 weeks and signing him and not having to guarantee his salary.

My guess would be he gets released again sometime in the next couple weeks and then is resigned before week 2.

I think signing him now makes sense because they probably want to rest most of the starters for Week 4 of the pre-season, and given the disappointing performance of Rhodes and Addai, they can take a look at what Wells could have to offer.

As I've said before, he's been my favorite no-name RB the last couple years. It seemed anytime I was forced to start him in an emergency situation, I won for that week.

And now it appears JW is on my favorite real-life NFL team. Sweeeeet.

Even if he signs, I wouldn't get my hopes up for Wells. That said, it's not like Rhodes or Addai are showing much, so you never know.
