Bloom, I know he must be on your radar,He finished 06 with excellent numbers filling in for Clark(injured) the last 4 games.

He is my big sleeper in 07...

Latest blurb from the PG.

Indeed, after watching Smith start the final four games of the 2006 season when Clark was injured, after watching him deliver big hits, break up passes and make two interceptions, the Steelers are more than just convinced they want him playing in their defense on a regular basis. They believe Smith, a third-round pick in 2006, has all the necessary ingredients to be one of the league's top safeties.

He could be decent, but playing free safety, his value is limited because his tackle numbers will not be high. Football wise, I like him. Fantasy wise, limited.

I have been holding onto him in hopes that he could turn into something, but with Polamalu signing the big deal, I can't see him slotting anywhere other than FS in the future. Been thinking of picking up this James Butler kid instead of Smith, who might be starting for Gibril Wilson in NY... is this a crazy thought? either will be my DB7.

I agree. Stuck like Chris Hope was alongside Polamalu. A possible move to a Tampa-2 scheme in future years isn't likely to do much for his value either. Decent depth, but not much upside.

Hope was DB25 in his final season. With Smith's playmaking ability I think he can settle in at that level. Smith is a hitter, a ballhawk, and a good blitzer, he can augment his tackle totals well with big plays. Smith is definitely a good player to be stashing if your roster sizes allow it.

double homer - he also went to my alma mater, Syracuse. The Steelers seemed perfectly content to trade down out of the late 2nd in 2006 (the pick Minnesota used on Tarvaris Jackson) and scoop Smith up in the 3rd. Part of the reason I liked the pick is that he's a special teams demon.

Bloom, I drafted him as my DB4 as the 52nd S selected in a scoring sysytem that mirrors Red Dog?Good or Bad?Fin

And #64 the season before, :goodposting: .Sig's point is important, though, as the big play capability of then Hope and now Clark gives them better value in those scoring systems.

I grabbed him in Zealots along with Sensabaugh in early June. I like Smith to finish around 30-35 among DB's in '07.

hope was even higher in some scoring systems in '05...

because of the way they use polamalu (blitzing or roaming around to make plays on the ball), i like to think of smith as the MLB of the secondary... :kicksrock:
