The Rams did.Didn't they sign Darius Walker too?
Selvin is not, nor ever will be an NFL back.Selvin Young is your answer here.
No, no, I'm pretty sure he is....plays for the Broncos.Selvin is not, nor ever will be an NFL back.Selvin Young is your answer here.
sooooooooooo clever. How about Selvin Young isn't deserved of being an NFL back. He is the beneficiary of being on a MNC team. And he wasn't even the bast back on that team..No, no, I'm pretty sure he is....plays for the Broncos.Selvin is not, nor ever will be an NFL back.Selvin Young is your answer here.![]()
Umm... He has averaged 5.3 YPC over 187 career carries. Pretty sure he belongs in the NFL. He may not ever be a true feature back, but he is at worst a very good COP back.sooooooooooo clever. http://bgsufalcons.cstv.com/sports/m-footb.../pope_pj00.htmlI don't know much about him, but if Young is not able to go, I'm thinking Pope will be the choice over Hillis because DEN's zone blocking scheme does not favor large fullback type players.PJ Pope
Anyone know anything about this kid?
Good chance he will be the only healthy Den RB next week (outside of Hillis, who is better suited as a FB).
That's not true. It favors players who have the ability (and discipline) to make only one cut and go. Fullback's are actually particularly good at this, because they aren't that shifty to begin with so they don't ever bother making more than one cut. It's a natural fit, really.http://bgsufalcons.cstv.com/sports/m-footb.../pope_pj00.htmlI don't know much about him, but if Young is not able to go, I'm thinking Pope will be the choice over Hillis because DEN's zone blocking scheme does not favor large fullback type players.PJ Pope

From what Ive seen of Hillis, he doesnt show anything resembling the cut or the go.That's not true. It favors players who have the ability (and discipline) to make only one cut and go. Well I'm not speaking about Hillis in particular, just addressing what the poster said regarding FB's inability to succeed in the zone blocking scheme. Regardless of whether Hillis is able to do this, his post was still inaccurate. Guys like Mike Anderson and Reuben Droughns have shown why. From what Ive seen of Hillis, he doesnt show anything resembling the cut or the go.That's not true. He was on the Bears during preseason and really looked good to me in a few games. Good enough for me to notice him for sure. Again, preseason. But still. Here were the stats:PJ Pope

He's back like cooked crack. What about Cory Boyd?

He re-tweaked that groin. Methinks there's a few more weeks of waiting before we know anything about that assertion.Selvin Young is your answer here.

It's really not fair to discount Hillis based on the Cle game - he came in as a #3 reserve role, played mostly in the 2nd half with the team down by 10+, and likely has had no experience running behind the Den O, an offense predicated on timing. Here's what we do know about Hillis: he has proven to be an excellent option as a receiver, and he hasn't fumbled. He has shown some heart fighting for the first down in the critical 4th and one vs Cle, so I'd say at a bare minimum, he's adequate in short yardage situations. From what Ive seen of Hillis, he doesnt show anything resembling the cut or the go.That's not true. FB's typically don't get alot of carries in a Shanahan offense, so we don't know what the kid can do given a week's worth of preparation. I haven't focused on Hillis closely so I don't know how he looks in the pass blocking , but if I'm Cutler I'd rather have a converted FB who's been with the team since day one of training camp protecting me than a practice squad guy or a street FA who won't really know the playbook and may not be a willing blocker to start with.
Moving forward, it's become obvious that this O will be very pass-heavy - based on the run/pass splits already and the lack of a qualified back. Hillis's aptitude in this area can only help his cause.
That's why I officially endorse Hillis as the Bronco starting RB.
I agree Hillis is the same mold as Anderson and Droughns, and after that BIG 4th down run for a first down to win the game, Shanny will give him ever chance to be the featured back. This thread should be changed to Fire up the Hillis posse, or get on the Hillis bandwagon, because it's the main RB show in DenverWell I'm not speaking about Hillis in particular, just addressing what the poster said regarding FB's inability to succeed in the zone blocking scheme. I know he was on the someone's practive squad a couple of years ago either KC or Chicago and the Packers signed him when they had a ton of injuries. He has been around the zone blcoking scheme in the past and this season so I would think he would be the player to grab. Hillis will be looked by a lot of owners because of his big game.He was on the Bears during preseason and really looked good to me in a few games. Good enough for me to notice him for sure. Game 1: 8 for 17 / 4 for 39 receiving
Game 2: 4 for 17 / 1 for 3
Game 3: 2 for 12
Game 4: 8 for 34
I think the Bears tried to put him on the practice squad but the Broncos snatched him up at that point.
And if Pope is, then why was he collecting a check on the practice squad while Selvin was getting NFL game carries?By your analysis, there are a LOT of guys who shouldn't be NFL backs.2007- 140 for 729, 5.21 avg2008- 48 for 268, 5.58 avgyeah he should never have stepped foot on a field!!Selvin is not, nor ever will be an NFL back.Selvin Young is your answer here.

Sproles is 5'6", Maurice Jones-Drew is 5'7", Jesse Chatman and Leon Washington are 5'8"He's 5'9"??? Why does this not sound encouraging?
I have a ww claim in dropping Torain for Pope, but really who knows.... Dalton Hilliard was 5'8".
Sounds like he was a heck of a player in college...

:whoosh:Any player with "RB-DEN" after their name is NOT the answer ... no matter WHAT the question is!Run away! .. Run away!
I like that part right there.MJD: 5'7", 208PJP: 5'9", 2052005, injured most of the season at BG, but 2003-04 he caught 48 and 50 balls, apx 3000 yards all purpose excluding kick returns in those 2 years. Young has a groin injury. My RB squad looks like roullette wheel.Yes, I agree with the avoid DEN RB philosophy, but it's not like I have LT and Portis as my starters, I'm taking flyers every week. Torain almost paid off, can't pin that one on Shanny........ Maurice Jones-Drew is 5'7"....
Not a big Denver fan but from my memory, when Bell was with Denver they were a "running team". Now they are a "passing team" and Bell is not an option catching the ball out of the backfield (not sure he can pass block either). This year Young looked good and has a real good YPC. Last year he was also an option to catch the ball out of the backfield, so we know he can do it. I think Young is the #1 option when he comes back. Until then I think Hillis is the one to own, he will be used as a receiver out of the backfield and he should get the goal line carries.Should we expect a RBBC between Pope and Bellwith Hillis catching balls out of the backfield ?![]()
don't you remember the story of the tortoise and the hare?that story taught me that the slower you go, the more races you win."Featured back"He [Hillis] is a slow footed tortoise next to Anderson and Droughns.
I like the fact that PJPs measurables are similar to MJD.Worthy of a roster spot, at least for this week anyway.
Besides his height and weight, what's similar?I like the fact that PJPs measurables are similar to MJD.Worthy of a roster spot, at least for this week anyway.
What if the question was, "name a player that plays for DEN"...?Any player with "RB-DEN" after their name is NOT the answer ... no matter WHAT the question is!Run away! .. Run away!
Height and weight don't mean a whole lot until you see the player's actual body type, and how they use their leverage when they run. Take Leon Washington... His measurables are also similar to MJD's. And while he possesses a lot of the same skills, he lacks the raw power and inside running ability of MJD.There's something about MJD... So much of his weight is distributed in his lower region, which lends itself to great power and balance, and makes him very difficult to get a hold of and bring downI like the fact that PJPs measurables are similar to MJD.Worthy of a roster spot, at least for this week anyway.
We may have this questioned answered today.Besides his height and weight, what's similar?I like the fact that PJPs measurables are similar to MJD.Worthy of a roster spot, at least for this week anyway.
Nice hijack into a WDIS thread.Bump for championship weekend.Any chance this dudes gets more touches than Tatum Bell this weekend? Is he at least the new goal line guy?I hate to have to choose between MB3 and Choice again this weekend (especially against Baltimore).
So sorry to upset you....I'll rephrase my question so as not to upset your delicate feelings about the proper usage of forums.Did anyone watch the Denver game last week? What was the RB rotation between Pope and Tatum? Well if you look.... I never asked anyone if I should start Pope over the two Dallas RBs.I was simply looking for input on Pope's role in the offense based on what they saw last week against Carolina.Sorry to ruin your not-so-subtle misplaced Assistant Coach post.
