Just my first run through while I'm bored. Obviously many changes will need to be made including rookies (Reggie Bush depends on who drafts him) and FAs (Edge). Dom Davis "gone" in Houston? Explain. I guess you're assuming Houston gets Reggie Bush at #1 and Davis's large contract is swept under the rug.

To clarify. Dom Davis may not be "gone", but from everything I've heard so far it will be a much smaller role and the Texans will be gunning for a rb in the draft.

David Carr has a $8 million option payment due I think in March. What the Texans do with this will determine their draft priorities IMO.

Davis would be a PERFECT 3rd down back.

I'm not sure why they'd do that with Wells being serviceable and Vernand Morency being drafted in '05. They're looking good at RB. Their issues exist in pass-blocking and on defense.

As to our list - we need to see where UFA's DeShaun Foster, Jamal Lewis, and Shaun Alexander end up before they can be slotted. Alexander's deal with Seattle included the agreement that Seattle cannot franchise him. I would think Thomas Jones may also be somewhere else and I think Ahman Green is gone from Green Bay.

True, but thats why this is just a preliminary list because we have no idea how FA will effect things. Also, Edge will likely be a FA.

I've just never been big on Droughns. I may need to look at it a little closer. though, it definitely gets real muddied at the bottom there.

If this is the list of 2006 top 24 rb's, then there are LOTS of questions except for say the top 5 backs. I don't think I would be comfortable taking anyone past Portis on this list. RB's #10-24 are just skecthy. I think next years draft is going to be tough if you don't get a top-5 pick.

I really can't stomach McAllister that high. He hadn't had top 10 numbers in the two years prior to his injury, now major knee injury and terrible team with new system in 06. Edge on a great team in the same system struggled the year he came back, I believe he was younger when he got injured too.

I don't like him either, which is why I got him at 11. Still, I couldn't find a reaso n to justify anybody else to rank higher. It seems like there will be a lot of trash next year.

in 2006 I would take Caddy, Droughns, Julius Jones, Dunn and Dillon over Deuce. I may rank him higher in dynasty but for next year no way.I also noticed Kevin Jones is not on list. I think he will be a top 15 RB next year, maybe higher if the Lions get a decent coach. I certainly like his upside better than anyone from 11 down on this list.

Keep an eye on the Miami situation - if Ricky gets dealt I can see both him and Brown jumping into the top 20.

I think D. Davis should go to Jacksonville as their every down back. If Houston gets Bush then they ought to look into a trade like that. DD is solid and would excel on an offense that isn't so one diminsional. Freddie is old and his best years are behind him so DD would be a nice fit IMHO.

D. Davis misses games every year due to injury. Whoever has him better make sure they have a good backup.

Me too. In fact, I like him better than Jam Lewis as well. Reuben was the 14th highest scoring back in our league this year and he only scored 2 TD's all year. If he could find the endzone more frequently he might be a top ten back.

That's the truest thing I've read today. I would add that SA should be number 1, LJ at 2 and as I wince, I put LT2 at 3.

Here's my list I would used if I were drafting tomorrow:

1. Larry Johnson

2. Shaun Alexander

3. LaDainian Tomlinson

4. Edgerrin James

5. Tiki Barber

6. Clinton Portis

7. Rudi Johnson

8. LaMont Jordan

9. Steven Jackson

10. Deuce McAllister

11. Reggie Bush ®

12. Warrick Dunn

13. Reuben Droughns

14. Brian Westbrook

15. Willis McGahee

16. Cadillac Williams

17. Domanick Davis

18. DeShaun Foster

19. DeAngello Williams ®

20. Tatum Bell

21. Chris Brown

22. Ronnie Brown

23. Ahman Green

24. Fred Taylor

Just missed:

Julius Jones

Willie Parker

Thomas Jones

Chester Taylor

19-28 was a crapshoot for me and could really go in any order. This is the cheatsheet I would use at RB if I were drafting tomorrow.

That last list looks about right to me.Though, one of the Denver RBs should rank above 19th. Anderson finished 10th in my league in scoring, and Bell was 24th.

The problem is, if I'm drafting tomorrow, I have no idea who the Denver RB is going to be next year so I have to downgrade all of them.Same reason I don't have Thomas Jones or Cedric Benson very high.

If I thought it was as sure of a thing as most everyone else does that Houston will take Reggie Bush, I would have Domanick Davis much lower as well -- but I happen to think there is less than 50-50 chance that Houston keeps the #1 pick. Even if they do keep it, I think there is a chance they go with Leinart over Bush.

I know, I'm

ericttspikes

Footballguy
The bigger question I have going into next year is RB value. It all depends on scoring systems, but in my big money league (no ppr, yardage, distance scoring) only 3 RBs were worth a high pick; LT, SA and LJ. Tiki, Edge and M. Anderson were on the cusp, but were handily out scored by the big 3 (almost double). The rest are a mixed bag whose totals are pretty similar. There were so many part time backs this year, and if that continues the teams that snag one of the top 3 are at a huge advantage while the other teams will have to use shrewd coaching, deep drafting and FA grabs to cobble together consistent scoring from the RB position. I've never been a believer of the "grab a RB at any cost in the first 3 rounds" theory, and I think this year really drives that point home with the amount of busts at RB. A draft of Palmer, Chad Johnson and Harrison would of smoked McGahee, Julius Jones and Kevin Jones in points for most leagues.

Sounds good. Can they get a new coach while they're at it?
Geez dont they get a new coach like every other year? They need some stability.
Maybe if they showed some improvement from the coach's year one and year two then yes. Moving backwards isn't good. Many believed Buffalo to be better this year. Their passing game got worse, their running game got worse (after the coach instructed Mcgahee how to run), and their defense got worse.

Yeah I tfound this a bit funny myslef. "Hey, Willis! We want you to run striaght up field and hit the hole harder." Willis then proceeds to run into the backs of his linemen who are getting housed 3 yds backwards the rest of the season. :wall:

Wow, after looking at these rankings I see three things that really jumped out at me:1) Warrick Dunn will offer tremendous value again next year2) The Jones boys are getting no love (Thomas in particular)3) Its probably way too early to do this without knowing how coaching changes, FA, and the draft will pan out.

Clarifying the Texans stuff from everything that I have picked up locally. Remember the Texans will have a new head coach and probably a new GM who can render all of this moot.David Carr- They will exercise the option barring some late change and have publicly said so.

domDavis-will be a Houston Texans in 2006. Most likely will be featured back unless they draft Bush.

Reggie Bush- Drafting unless they win against 49ers or find a good trade.

Jonathon Wells- unrestricted FA who could someone could give more than they wanted for a back-up Rb.

Generally on RB- will go after Bush, but will not go after a RB in FA or the draft except as a back-up especially if Wells is not resigned.

How bout Maurice Morris? Right after Alexander breaks all applicable records, gets his contract, and gets 'injured'. :excited:
