First IDP draft, and I was rather humbled (1 Viewer)

This is an team yahoo league that starts three IDPs from any position.

Return Yards (25 yards per point)

Return Touchdowns (6)

Tackle Solo (1)

Sack (3)

Interception (3)

Fumble Force (2)

Fumble Recovery (3)

Touchdown (6)

Safety (2)

Pass Defended (1)

Block Kick (2)

Pre-draft, I did some stuying of IDPs, but I was thinking, "Hey, its an 8 teamer, there's gotta be some players available throughout the season." I had no idea that guys would be drafting LBs in the 8th round. Add in that this was my first live draft on yahoo, and I was totally lost with the IPD player setup...I had not pre-ranked defensive players. :bag:

I waited until the 10th round, hoping to snag a DB that returns kicks/punts, but T. McGee and Pacman Jones were take just before me. So I took C. Cooley. Here's my 5 IDPs from the draft:

11.06 L. Tatupu SEA

13.06 M. Peterson JAC

14.03 A. Wilson ARI

15.06 A. Davis CLE

16.03 J. Taylor MIA

Should I keep an eye on the depth charts in the training camp reports to see who else might be performing as PR/KR? What are things I should watch for throughout the season? Do I watch the waiver wire the exact same way as offensive positions?

Advice is greatly appreciated, as I seriously underestimated the IDP position in my draft. Now I have to make up for it throughout the season.

Lofa in the 11th? I wish mine went that way. He is usually gone by the 6th in a 12 teamer. Not a bad start for you. What is the rest of your team?

Try for FA went other teams drop players and stay on top of waivers would eb my suggestion.

Looks solid. Two things to note though, Jason Taylor has been having back issues this summer, so could be someone to replace. And Mike Peterson was just hurt in preseason game 3 with a knee. He might miss week 1 or some more weeks. No specific word out of Jck yet...

With only a handful of starters a week, you will have solid waiver wire players available most of the year. Just watch your league scoring and keep an eye on the top scoring IDP's each week as they could be possible improvements. Just be careful to filter out "big play" point guys. As some players which score a defensive TD early get racked high due to their points, but they really aren't getting alot of tackles. Check out the 3-down back thread, and if any of those guys are still out on your waiver wire, keep an eye on them as they would probably be your most likely canidates for pickups.

Remember, this is an 8 team league. They needed on more for the draft, and I thought I'd give it a go at $25 entry.QB, WR, RB, TE, 3 W/R, 3 D, 1 K, 6 BenchPassing Yards (30 yards per point)Passing Touchdowns (6)Interceptions (-2)Rushing Yards (15 yards per point)Rushing Touchdowns (6)Reception Yards (15 yards per point)Reception Touchdowns (6)1.06 RB R. Stover Now that I look back on the draft, maybe it was more that people were drafting the big names rather than where they were ranked. Starting in round 8 these were the IDPs taken before I drafted an IDP:D. EdwardsM. VrabelZ. ThomasPacman JonesJ. AbrahamR. LewisB. UrlacherT. McGeeJ. VilmaT. PolamaluThe last few rounds were dominated by draft defensive players. One thing that I amhaving trouble with is yahoo's rankings of defensive players. What is the best way to organize the listing of free agents on yahoo?

Thanks for the input. Now I am going to read the third down back thread.

I think you did quite well actually and you are correct about "name" guys.In your format Vrabel should never have been drafted.Pacman Jones is also worthless. Heck, he wasn't even drafted in my IPD league where you have 6 DL, 6 LB and 6 DB's on your team. Last year he was drafted but quickly dropped.I could go on but I won't. Just keep an eye on the waiver wire for high tackle linebackers as it looks like you can start any 3 IDP no matter the position. Linebackers are your RB's of IDPs.
