First QB to be benched this season? (1 Viewer)

I think there are some interesting situations that may play out over the next few weeks regarding QB's. Tennessee is 0-2 with the potential to go down 0-3 after this week. Is there a chance we see Vince Young come off the bench to take over the starting gig? I personally think Jason Campbell might be another QB benched in the near future if the offense continues to struggle. Bulger is another guy that I cant seem to understand why he is still in there, although I'm not sure Boller would be much of an upgrade all things considered. Just wanted to get some thoughts and opinions as the performance of some potentially rosterable players could improve with a change at QB.
I think the skins would be foolish to bench Campbell. He has been a scapegoat for their unimpressive start. He has a higher completion % and more passing yards than Matt Ryan. He just hasn't had many attempts in the red zone otherwise his td numbers might be a little better.

Chad Pennington if they start 0-4
I'm surprised by how few are saying this. This is a team that won their division last year, have lost some games because they can't make a big play, have a potentially dominant running game and have a young guy that is supposed to take over next year. The question is not if, but when. If Penny can't get the safeties more than 10 yards off the LOS, Henne will need to so Ronnie and Ricky have room to breathe.ETA - Collins is playing well, and has been. Not a candidate IMO.

Quinn has potential to see the bench.

Al Davis is to stubborn and delusional to bench his #1 overall pick and would kick a coach that tried square in the nutz.

The Lions didn't expect to win, and will tolerate Stafford's growing pains even if 'Pepper was better.

Sanchez has earned his job.

Favre sells too many tickets.

Haven't seen Cassel much...

Sure, you can bench Bulger. What does it matter. You could also send Jackson out on offense by himself. 1 vs 11!

Denver has dodged bullets with Orton. I have always thought Simms was vastly underrated.
 I think if the Dolphins go 0-3 they will start considering dumping Pennington for Henne. IIRC Pennington's contract is up after this season, so there is no reason not to turn the ball over to Henne and see what he can do with it. They could use a combo of Henne with White as his backup.

Probably should be Rusell, but it won't.I'm going to say Quinn.
This.
Yup. It's not just about who's struggling, it's also about who's available as a replacement. Cleveland's the only team I can think of that both has a struggling QB and a guy who went to the Pro Bowl behind him.
Detroit...

Russell and Quinn won't be benched because they are making too much money
I'm pretty sure DA is making more than Quinn this year.Jamarcus: No reason to bench him. they have nothing behind him and they might as well play him, lean on the running game, and hope he improves.

Stafford: playing badly and has one of the more gifted backups in the league- but they are unlikely to bench him.

Delhomme: Will be his usual fluky self and have 2-3 good games in a row, the coaching staff will pat themselves on the back for sticking with him and then he will throw 3 picks.
DA is making more than Quinn this year, but that won't change someone else writing this every week. Quinn's contract is incentive laden, his base salary isn't much more than the minimum.
If Quinn gets 70% of the snaps (I think) the escalators kick in & his contract becomes very large for future years.
I interpret that as he has until early November to turn it around.

The problem with the Browns benching Quinn is what do you do if Derek Anderson stinks as well? You've basically destroyed your team's faith in both QBs, and you have almost an entire season yet to play.

When you draft a QB, it is pretty much implied that you need to have patience with the kid and give him a chance to develop. And yes, even if it means living with their struggles for an entire year or more. If the Browns do not have the patience to go through this process, then their mistake was trusting their season to 2 young unproven QBs. They should have traded one and brought in a veteran.

I don't doubt he could be benched, anything's possible on losing teams, but I'm shocked at his numbers so far. I had no idea. He is top 5 in NFFC scoring ahead of guys like Rivers, both Mannings, Warner and the struggling Rodgers. Not saying he stays there, but impressive none the less.

Quinn gets a $1.3M bonus if he takes 45% of the snaps this season. He would get a $5M bonus in 2010 if he takes 70% of the snaps this season -- but I don't know if that $5M bonus is guaranteed if the Browns decide to cut him before the 2010 season starts.Quinn won't be approaching the 70% threshold until Week 12. By that time, Anderson won't be of much help in the fantasy football world.

Yep, if it's going that badly I think you can expect the Browns to be looking at getting a new starting QB for 2010. :wall:Hopefully we never have to bench Quinn so this issue is irrelevant.

It'll be Stafford. And he'll end up like all of the past Lions QBs. Another couple of losses and they'll feel the pressure to win a few games this year, so they'll go for the big change. This will prove once again that they are an inept organization.

I hope that doesn't happen, I think Culpeper should've gotten the starting job, they chose to roll the dice and go with Stafford and I think they should stick with it. He is there franchise qb.
