First round playoff mediocrity (1 Viewer)

Dallas / Seattle was the best game of the weekend. and even then it was only memorable because of the finish. Seattle really did not look very good. Alexander had a pedestrian game... honestly i fell asleep for a good chunk of this game. mostly from sheer boredom.

Jets / Patriots had potential but it just left you with the feeling, the whole game, that it was inevitable the Pats would pull away and win. it had some moments and was all in all a well coached game but watching the Jets offense is painful. Pennington's long, looping, weak delivery is just difficult to watch. pop-gun offense w/ a shocking big play by Cotchery. their defense had to just feel that they needed to score 2 td's for them to have a shot.

ditto Eli Manning. just a shell of what he may once have been (when?). no confidence. no leadership ability. no fire. missing open receivers all day long. chucking and ducking. watching him play is watching mistakes pile up. terrible QB right now. and the Eagles offense kills me. really. it is so dull. w/o Westbrook providing the occasional big play and Garcia scrambling for his life once in a while it's like watching paint dry. 3 yard slant pass after 3 yard slant pass gets boring awfully quick.

Chiefs / Colts was over on the 3rd play of the game. everyone knows the Chiefs are supposed to run the ball at will.. including the Colts! imagine then their surprise when the Chiefs, WHOA!, ran the ball on their first two plays. wow!! play-action there and you might strike a big play.. but ol' Herm ain't that smart. bad coaching and horrible quarterbacking play doomed them. not a very good defense and a "how'd we get here?" attitude made this game not worth watching. the worst performance i've seen by an NFL team (not named the Raiders) in a while.

even Peyton Manning in full on playoff choke mode wasn't enough for the Colts to lose this one. ghastly game.

here's to hoping week 2 is a hell of a lot better.

I'm not an Eli apologist, but his recievers can't get open and half the time he has no time. That offense really took a hit when Toomer and Pettigout went down.

Last years WC games were rather boring last year as well. In fact, there really wasn't a good game in all of last years playoffs. I consider a good game to be competitive and well played by both teams.

I thought both the Seattle game and the Philly game had plenty of drama

The pats and Indy games were blow outs but thats to be expected once in awhile in the first games of the playoffs.Pretenders and contenders.

Please, did you see how many times they showed Plax running with his arms up in the arm with yards of separation between him and the defender? Yes, they have no #2 wr but Eli's accuracy is TERRIBLE. When guys are running wide open in the flat, they literally need to jump up/dive to catch the ball. There is almost no RAC where the receiver can grab the ball in stride and race down the field. How often does he throw it at Tiki's feet/over his head on a screen pass? I've never been an Eli "hater" but have watched him over the past few years and it's probably a confidence thing but he's gotten worse each year. He should have been picked several times yesterday. It was obvious in the Giants playcalling in the 2nd half that they have zero confidence in his ability at this point.

5 star scale:

Indy/KC was the worst game of the weekend. Herman Edwards deserves every bit of criticism he gets. Huard should have been in to start the 3rd Quarter. 1 star

Dallas/Seattle game was great, helped by the awesome last couple of minutes. I like any game that comes down to the wire. The Romo muff will be remembered for awhile. 4 stars

NYJ/NE was a good game for 3 Quarters. Nice chessmatch between the two coaches. Sure, it was over early in the 4th, but that doens't take away from the earlier parts of the game. 3 stars

NYG/Philly was also a good game. Momentum seemed to go back and forth, and any game that comes down to the last play is good. 3 1/2 stars.

Not a bad weekend of watching football if you ask me.

response to Banger since i didn't quote it (damn you KT for slipping in there!)

Eli misses wide open guys. and even when he hits wide open guys, most of the time it's in a bad spot... he'll throw a screen that is too far ahead of the receiver.. or a slant that's at the guys shoetops.. or a post that is too short.

his passes flutter and wobble. he just looks completely overwhelmed and i think Coughlin has broken him.

having Gilbride call the plays probably wasn't helping but Eli has really declined quite a bit in the last year +.

for me the close games really boiled down to "who wanted to lose it less" not "who wanted to win it more". the ineptitude of QB play on both sides of the ball in the Giants / Eagles game was nearly unbearable. if Andy Reid goes pass-wacky, as he is often wont to do, and forgets about Westbrook.. that game ends with a whimper and not a GW field goal. it was just so awkward and herky jerky with the Giants shooting themselves in the foot over and over again.

bad games? Maybe KC/Indy, but every other game was pretty damn good, with Seattle/Dallas being the best.

All 4 games went to the 4th quarter with both teams having a chance, with the Jets/Patriots being the most lopsided.

All 4 road teams lost. Did you really expect anything else?
