first time IDP (1 Viewer)

This year is the first time to play an IDP. We only pick one, so I am guessing it is a Flex IDP, as we can pick any defensive position.

When time came around to pick, I took Urlacher.

Is this a good pick? Do I hold him for the year? Do I ride FA market every week kinda like a team defense?

I really am not sure how to handle this position, any help will be great!!!

LB is definitely the way to go in pretty much all formats, but it maybe a good idea to let us know what kind of scoring system you have. Player values change a great deal based on that. However, Urlacher is really on the downhill side of his career and isn't really considered elite for fantasy purposes, but would be a great backup if you wanted to keep 2.These guys are pretty much considered top tier LB's in most scoring setups:Patrick Willis - essentially the unquestioned #1Lawrence Timmons - right behind WillisJerod Mayo - last year's top guy...watch for changes in schemes, though....he should still be greatJon Beason - would be consensus #2, but he hasn't practiced yet this year. Stud if he's out there.Ray Lewis - despite his age was still producing elite numbers last year.The next tier of guys:James LaurinaitisDavid HawthornDesmond BishopPaul PoslusznyCurtis LoftonDemeco RyansMost people would prefer any of the above guys before Urlacher...DJ Williams is another guy, but he's out for the first couple of weeks to start the season. Some personal preferences I'd have over Ulacher include Rey Maualuga, DQwell Jackson & Barrett Ruud. Again, these guys could shuffle based on scoring setup, so check on that....look at last year's top scorers in your format for a good idea of who could stand out.Welcome and good luck!

Sorry about that. I should have known to post scoring!!

solo= 1

share = .5

sack= 2

fumble= 2

fumble recovery= 2

safety= 2

block pass= .5

TD= 6

Timmons is still available for me to pick up.

OK. You have what is considered a tackle heavy system. Timmons is a top 5 player and I would run to pick him up if I were you.

well crap!!! I just missed out on Timmons, a had the higher waiver pick!

Beason is still there but just coming off surgery.

Tulloch, Laurinaitis, and Posluszny are still available.

If it was me, I'd pick up Laurinaitis and also Beason if you have the roster space. If not, Laurinaitis would be better than Urlacher and you can watch for Beason after week 1 or 2.
