Has anyone looked at the numbers on this?

An example is Freddie Freeman going to the Dodgers. He stays in the National League but not in the NL East.

Do players typically improve on new teams or see a decrease in production?

Changes in ballpark effects, role/opportunities, offensive context and luck all are factors affecting productivity. I doubt there's anything categorical about a change in scenery that you can apply either as a positive or negative outside of a rare case like Kris Bryant playing half his games in Coors.
