Huh? Please unpack this for me.

My impression is their opinion of a burger is a burger. It was neither special nor especially good.
Considering I was responding to Flap's post, which I quoted, I'm not sure why you are trying to apply it to something you posted.

Um, sorry? Didn't mean to upset delicate sensibilities? In the Five Guys Thread?

Carry on, I'll just sit back and watch.

You get either a single or double cheeseburger with sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion (or customize it and leave some of that off).  You get terrible fries.  You get a Coke and/or a shake.  That's it.  That's what they have.
Finally got to try In N Out on a recent trip to Palm Springs (122 degrees - awesome place, that one).  Distinctly meh.  Five Guys or Hamburger Heaven would have been money better spent.

:goodposting:   In N Out is garbage.

You don't really know anything about burgers though.

Some of us really get it, we have spent a lot of our lives really learning all there is to know about these burgers.

I'd totally forgotten about this!

Yeah dude, I have no idea where the hell that came from. Don't even know the poster (unless it's an alias?).

Maybe I can open Snark 'n Sides Sandwich Shop.  You get to choose if yours is a hero, a hoagie, a sub, or a grinder (stupid CT)

6 Juicy Secrets About Five Guys, Straight From a Former Employee

Five Guys may have just been named America's number one burger chain, but it turns out there's way more to the restaurant than grease-laden takeout bags and peanut-shell-covered floors. A former Five Guys employee, who worked at the burger and fries joint for a few months, recently did a Reddit AMA, and things got juicy (pun semi-intended). During the "Ask Me Anything" conversation online, the employee spilled details on the chain's french fries, burger meat, and so much more. Read on to get the insider scoop.

You can add literally anything you want to their grilled cheese.

When asked what the most popular menu items are, the former Five Guys employee said, "If I had to break it down, it would probably be 60 percent order some kind of burger, 25 percent order a dog, 10 percent a grilled cheese, and BLT/veggie is 5 percent. I would recommend the grilled cheese, you can add anything you want to it, even a patty!" Furthermore, they later added that grilled cheese is their personal favorite choice because "it's the safest thing to eat on the menu."

The meat may not be as great as you think.

On the quality of the meat used in burgers, the former employee said, "Honestly? Not very good. It's not even seasoned, and sometimes we served bad meat." When another user chimed in to ask for more details on this tidbit, they clarified by saying it was meat that "was unsafe to serve to guests. Gray, slimy meat that we were still forced to serve. Also, meat that fell on the floor." Hmm, I think I've lost my appetite.

About that "small" order of fries . . .

Another user asked, "What is the rationale behind ordering a 'small' fries, putting a tiny cup in the bag and then pouring four pounds of potatoes on top?" It turns out, it's actually mean to be a bit of an "illusion." The employee explained, "When you order a small fry (for example, but they do this for all sizes) you are paying for all of the fries that go into the bag. That 'extra' scoop is kind of an illusion, they told us during training that its to make customers think they're getting a big bargain. And you can ask for the cup with no topper if you want, you can do that."

There's a reason the patties are so freakin' juicy.

When one Reddit user commented on how fresh and juicy their burger patty was, the former employee replied that it's all about the cooking method. "We're not supposed to press down on it, that removes the juices," they said.

Why do they have free peanuts?

"The peanuts are to distract the customers so that they won't stare at us."  :lmao:

Plot twist: Some employees actually think In-N-Out is better.

Ah, the never-ending battle of Five Guys versus In-N-Out! When one Reddit commenter asked for the former employee's take on the matter, they said, "In-n-Out is way better, hands down." Moreover, they continued by saying, "As an insider, i can tell you In-N-Out is probably safer." Oh dear . . .

One Reddit user named Shuke Sux asked why Five Guys employees screamed "ONE IN THE DOOR" at him every time he entered their store and answered that employees there are scalded in the nutsack with a cattle prod if they don't scream at incoming patrons.

FAKE NEWS

Tried In N Out a few weeks back in vegas.  Not a bad burger but  don't get why anyone would ever make  big deal out of it
Came here to post just this.  I had In-N-Out for the first time ever last week while I was in Vegas - passed one coming back from the dispensary near the UNLV campus, so I talked my wife into stopping.  Got a double double and fries.  Fries were tasty and well seasoned but limp and soggy.  Burger was good, but nothing transcendent.  Five Guys first experience that prompted this thread was considerably better.  I'd rate In-N-Out as "good but severely overrated."

Tried 5 Guys for the first time last week.  I've seen them around in my travels, but eating fast food on business trips with clients and/or on the company dime is generally frowned upon, so I've never been.  They recently added a location in the local mall and took the kids after a movie 'cause they raved about it and wanted to go.

It was probably the best fast food experience I've had.  I enjoyed the free peanuts and an iced tea while waiting for my order.  I ordered a double cheeseburger w/out the bun in bowl and it was delicious.  I tried a couple of fries and they were excellent; made from fresh potatoes, just like I make at home.

Here's my fast food burger ranking:

1)  5 Guys Burgers & Fries
2)  In n' Out
3)  Wendy's
4)  Jack-In-The-Box
5) McDonald's/Burger King/Everybody else

Oh my god, this burger is good and these fries are tasty...I HATE IT!!
"Good, but severely overrated" now equals "I HATE IT!!"?

Don't blame me, blame the people who have talked about In-N-Out as if it's the second coming.  It's a decent fast food burger, nothing more.  If it was all over the place here, I'd get it more often than McDonald's or Burger King, but I don't feel like I'm missing out anymore by not having them in FL.

I'm now back on the In-N-Out bandwagon. The patties have been excellent lately, the fries more than adequate. Five guys has sesame seeds.

Do you want sesame seeds in the door?

You come back to grace us with your presence... and talk about tasty fries from In n Out?

What happened to you man? Those fries are just terrible.

Burger is ok.

How we looking for the Orange this season, gb?

I live within 10 minutes of 3 In N Outs and I don't go very often due to the long lines. It's no longer fast food when a diner can serve you just as fast.

I wonder if they have gravy fries? Otherwise, I'm sticking to diner food if that's the case.

I just happens that where I live, In-N-Out moves pretty quickly and Five Guys moves at a snail's pace. Otherwise, I like Five Guys's burger toppings better. Jalapeños and mushrooms make for a more earthy and less salty burger dining experience.

I tried Smashburger for the first time this weekend. I saw that the Triple-Double was just $4 so I got a combo. It's a good juicy burger but the patties were smaller than I expected.

You should download the Five Guys app and order online.  I always order ahead.

That's what I'm getting at.  The hype is out of control.

Also, FYI - the one I went to, there were maybe 3-4 cars in the drive thru and 1 person ahead of me on line inside.  It still took a good 10 minutes to get the food.  Now, I don't mind waiting at all in order to get fresh food, but it wasn't exactly fast.  I can get a burger from Fuddruckers or Burger 21 in the same time frame and it's far better.  Those places don't have drive-thrus though, so it's not apples to apples.

Related : I ate Culver's for the first time ever today, they just opened one near my office.  Never had it before, so I'm on a "new fast food" kick the last week.  Culver's was about the same as In-N-Out, solid but unremarkable.

Culvers is much better than In and Out IMO
I found them to be of similar quality/taste.  Wouldn't turn my nose up at nor go out of my way for either.  However, I will say, I got fried cheese curds instead of fries at Culver's, just because I'd heard they were great - while tasty, I feel like I ate a brick.  There were a lot of those little suckers in whatever size they gave me with the combo meal.  I don't think I'll eat again until tomorrow.

I decided to try Five Guys again recently, and it's till good stuff. Took out a loan to pay for it, but got a great interest rate, and I can refinance at the end of 2 years.

Sesame seeds are what separate the hamburger buns from just buns.

I love the $10 is too expensive for a meal crowd.
