Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (2 Viewers)

Comparing Five Guys to a burger from Wendy's or McDonald's is crazy. There is no comparison. 5 Guys hands down.
The quality of the meat may be better (certainly than McD's), however they burn their burger so well done, it negates a lot of any advantage they had. Probably what keeps me from going back much, which is a shame. And why of that genre, Fatburger is still, by far, my fav fast food greasy spoon burger joint.
I went to 5 guys one time and it's an overpriced wendy's burger.a lot of people get trolled in by the hype ---- marketing works with all kinds of products.

Yes, because you can't tell the difference everybody else is being trolled.

Not getting the hate for Wendy's. Still one of the best burgers and surely the best of the big 3. Value-wise they're better than 5Guys and it's not close, especially since Wendy's upgraded their fries.
 :X
Have to agree with the original poster here - Wendy's is, certainly of the big three, the freshest meat. I don't believe it's frozen, and it's a pretty solid old school burger to be honest. Five Guy's fries are awesome, but the burger really isn't that amazing imo, but again, would likely be a lot better if not so darn well done.

if you are trying to differentiate between the 2 it only means you were born and raised in some area with nothing but chain food.

Don't get this. Last weekend I had Jean Georges, Ippudo (best Ramen in the nation according to many) and Peter Luger. Doesn't mean there is not room for fast food and a good, cheap, greasy spoon burger and therefore a worthwhile debate on which is better.

Just checked online for my local 5 Guys. Double cheeseburger ($6.49) and little fry ($2.39) comes to $8.88. Little fry = Large Wendys fry.Wendy's double cheeseburger value meal is $6.89. When I tried their hot N juicy, it was anything but juicy. Upgrading to large would bring it to $7.89.Because the food is so much better, Im perfectly fine paying an extra $1-2 for 5 Guys.

I don't think the 5G burger is a huge step up from Wendy's.

5G gives the illusion of being a big burger by using a wimpy, narrow little bun. Throw some toppings on and the burger looks tall, and even the wimply little patties are overflowing.

They are essentially the manscaping cheat to enhance the perceived size of their meat.

Most importantly, you simply can't call it an elite burger when they completely mail in the bun. It's downright shameful for a place with only 3 things on the menu.

They are a little undercooked, but I do like the fries.

That's the thing. Not all of us think 5 guys is much better than Wendy's. While I cant speak for others it seems the quality is a little better, the fries a ton better and the burgers so overcooked that I may lean Wendy's.

I dont have a problem with the bun. And toppings are part of why 5 Guys >> standard fast food burger to me. I cant get grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, grilled peppers, & A1 - for free nonetheless - at any of those places.

Wendy's burgers went downhill a few years ago IMO, I guess when they switched to "hot n juicy" burgers? Their old burgers where bar none the best FF burger. Now I would lean Burger King. New ones are dry and have no flavor.Id say 5 Guys quality/freshness of both the burgers and fries kills standard FF places, Wendy's included. But hey, if you prefer Wendy's since it is slightly cheaper go there if you please.

This. If you are buying a Wendys and 5G burger with K, M, and pickle, I could see how you might not see the difference. If you dress the 5G burger with grilled onions and mushrooms, it is infinitely better than Wendys IMO.And the small fry from 5G is much larger than any fry from any burger chain I've been to.

I think those are all great toppings, and I'm sure the reason they're free is to charge you extra for a disguised wendy's burger -- that's smart business.bear in mind, I haven't eaten at either place in a couple years

Yeah, they'd better have a good selection of toppings. The toppings are much of the reason I go there. I normally go with L,T, grilled onions and mushrooms, jalapenos, and BBQ sauce. I love that they actually have fresh jalapeno slices (well, fresh meaning not pickled). I would normally never go with BBQ sauce on a burger, but the sweetness really goes so well with the jalapenos.

I get water, or ask for a water cup and get fountain beverage of choice. Drink = free.

You can get a Wendy's double cheeseburger and fries for less than $6.89 and do the same.

I actually give 5 Guys a little extra credit for creative application of the optical inch.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries Maybe the greasiest meal I ever ateBut..................Hot DAMN was that a good burger !!! :excited:
so, to summarize, you guys get a dollar wendy's doublestack and are convinced through some marketing tricks that it's the best burger you ever ate by adding 'free' toppings for an extra 6 dollars.and 'free' peanuts.reminds me of that great steak and shake 'butterburger' I kept hearing about./thread

Any Wendy's Ive been to in the last 5 years has the drink machine behind the counter. So no, you cant do that.

Ive never got any cheeseburger, value menu double stack to a baconator, from Wendy's and felt even close to as satisfied as I do after a 5 Guys double cheese with grilled onion, grilled mushrooms, grilled peppers, and A1. I go with grilled jalapenos on occasion too. :moneybag:In fact, typically when I leave Wendy's I think WTF did I just waste my money there.

Why are you arguing Wendy's is better today if you haven't been to either place in years, as you posted?

maybe I'm just interrupting a conversation you're having with yourself in your own imagination, but I've eaten at wendy's.

are you actually addressing these questions to me?

Absolutely I am. I've been to both restaurants several times and NEVER have I seen the 'little fries' give me nearly as much as I would get in a Wendy's large. No chance.

I must just be super lucky in the ones I've visited in their footprint. The 5G small fry has been able to feed a small village. I can rarely finish their fries after finishing off a regular burger. Not the case with Wendys.

 Maybe. My experience is exactly the opposite. I usually get my kids fries at 5G and I just eat a burger and peanuts. When I go to Wendy's, I rarely finish the fries.

It's been 6 months since I've been there. I couldn't remember. But I don't like there fries regardless.5G IMO, is a good burger and crap fries for too much money.

oops, I think that's culver's

Damn, I love the 5G fries as much as their burgers. To each his own.
Again, location difference may be a factor, but taking raw potatoes frying them once in 5 minutes, turns out a horrible fry every time.I want crunch. Never had it at 5G.
Im with pizzatyme on this, I order the fries more than I order the burger there. The fries are basically a meal for $3. That said, while Ive never had mushy fries there, they arent exactly crispy. The next time I go, Ill probably ask for the fries well done and the burger a bit undercooked.

Just went to the one near me for the last time before it goes out of business next Sunday. Burger solid, cajun fries meh.

Wendy's burgers are bland and overpriced. Five Guys is overpriced, too, but at least their burgers are tasty. And I'm always full after a 5G burger and fries...not so with any Wendy's burger and fries.

Ah. So you pay $8.88 for $5 worth of food so you can rip them off by the placement of their soda machine. You're a genius!

There's seriously a debate on what's better between 5 guys and Wendy's? Its like debating if an MLB team is better than an AAA team...it's not even close. He'll I'm not even sure Wendy's is real meat anymore...it's like some puffy meat like concoction akin to McDonald's.
