Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (2 Viewers)

This thread is quickly turning into folks bragging about being able to spend a lot of money on burgers and fries

LOOK AT ME! I CAN EAT OVERPRICED DEAD COWS!!!
I'd expect us to be debating the cut of filet at Morton's vs. Ruth's Chris at 35 pages.

Yikes.
This thread has taken on a life of it's own.
It's the beauty and curse of the FFA. You just never know what subject is going to take off and you never really know where you are going to end up.

Red Robin is at suburban malls, isn't it?

never seen one in the city.
Yes, we don't have them here in South Florida much, we have Johnny Rockets though.

I'm not a huge JR fan, like the milkshakes and they make a killer BLT.
There used to be a Fuddruckers by the U. They had pretty good burgers and the place was usually packed with college women. So win win.

Are you posting this from inside a Starbucks?
Cafe Europa inside the Chevron on 58th and Biscayne, hidden gem and the coffee is organic.
I can't believe I'm about to get into this conversation, but tell me if I'm right:

there isn't a Chevron at 58th and Biscayne, you're between 60th and 61st at Europa Car Wash and Cafe.

My meal at this Five Guys http://gofiveguys.com/menu/five-guys-14th-street which is prob the most expensive Five Guys in America was $9.99...]

I can't have a sit down burger/fries for under $14-$15 (at a minimum) out of pocket.

Of course you can. You just refuse to do so.

The waiter at Red Robin makes $1.50 for my preference of eating a burger not cooked well done and served to me on a real plate for $10.

The waiter at Red Robin makes $0.00 for your preference of eating a burnt burger served in tin foil for $10.

Believe me, the waiter at Red Robin would rather make $1.50 than make $0.00. You're not doing him any favors by claiming the moral high horse of being a big tipper.
As I noted before and I feel majority would Five Guys is better than Red Robin...

Also, with tax, your Red Robin is now $11, plus $2 leaves you at 30% more on a sub par product.
Again, Red Robin is the worst case scenario. There are thousands of restaurants that serve a burger and fries as good or better than Five Guys for $10, especially when they cook it to your preference and don't force you to eat your burger well done.

As for tax, unless you take your Five Guys to go, you're paying dine in tax too. So if tax is 10%, both Five Guys and your diner of choice are at $11. The tip is still $1.50. If you want to tip on the tax, then it's $0.15 for a total of $1.65, which is 15% more than the $11 that BOTH places charged after tax. Where you are coming up with 30% more is fascinating.

It is $10... Outside of 2 slices of pizza, most lunches will be in the $8-$11 range...
Now granted, I only eat out once a work-week and really, it's more of a carry-out/dine-at-my-desk sorta deal, so I am not a good barometer of what lunch costs on a daily basis, but....there's a super market down the road that makes any kind of deli sandwich you want for $5.99. I will stack this tuna fish sandwich on marble rye with swiss cheese against anything Subway offers up. Absolutely splendid the way Sherri makes them for me. Fresh, tasty, all sorts of pickles and peppers.

I'm guessing you could find a supermarket in your area that does the same. If you're a soda drinker and a chips eater, you could probably find those cheaper at the store too.
For the time it takes me to do that I can throw an 8 oz Ribeye on the grill and microwave a baked potato.

Ribeye - $3

Potato w/fixings - less than 75 cents

Can of pop from the fridge - 25 cents

Let's say $3.99 and in/out in 30 minutes.

That's right. There is a full on coffee place inside, the owner Rene built it to attract better customers to his overpriced gas pumps which I never fill up. But he has delicious sandwiches and the best coffee in the city. He then lead some of the adjacent space and a fellow who already had a detail and wash business rents it from him.

Inside has a TV with Soccer usually going and conches to sit, surf, and sip.

Yeah, I've been there. I'm just saying, it's not a "hidden gem." It's a car wash.

I will say, for a cafe in a car wash, it is superb. Truly. I actually sent a picture of it to my wife with a caption to the effect of "this is inside a car wash. WTF?"

Where do you find Ribeye for $6 per lb?

In N Out Fries animal style are like $3.30, right?

So you guys are paying $2 for a couple slices of American cheese, some grilled onions, and some 1k island dressing and you want to lecture others on what's a good value?

You ordered the kid's menu burger.

There's a 5 guys (and an In-N-Out) about about a dozen miles from my house. It's the only one I've ever been to, and every time I've ordered they've asked me how I'd like the burger cooked. I've always asked for and gotten medium/medium rare, slightly pink in the center. Apparently this one franchise doesn't approve of the "well done only" rule and is going rogue. I wouldn't go back to 5 guys if I could only get a well done burger. And lol at people mocking free peanuts. Every time I've been in there the peanuts are getting crushed by people waiting for their food.

A double cheeseburger plus fries plus tax is going to be less than $10 at Five Guys. And if you get a drink, you'll have to add that to your Red Robin order, too.

Perhaps you missed the additional bacon on that particular burger. knock between .80 and $1 off the price.

Pretty sure Red Robin charges for extras such as bacon too?

Charlotte. Local grocery occasion does buy one get one. It's also 2 iron from my front door so I go in when they do their second markdowns to 60% off and find some good deals. Last fall they had a sale on $20 fillets to $12. Must have over estimated the demand because I left with $60 of meat at $5 / lb.

Yeah it is 6.50. So if I left off the bacon I would still be at 11.00. That's still expensive.

Nice...Ribeye's are typically double that here. $8.99 a lb if you catch them on sale at the right time.

A1 Peppercorn Bacon Burger with Fries... $9.99 at Red Robin.

However, since you order off the kids menu, it would cost extra to add bacon to your Rad Robin burger.

When I search the google for "red robin sucks balls" https://www.google.com/#q=red+robin+sucks+balls

The second one down is another group of people debating RR vs FG
Red Robin does suck balls. That's why I've called it the worst case scenario numerous times now. There are thousands of restaurants that will cook a hamburger to the temperature of your prefence and serve it with fries on a real plate for the same price Five Guys charges for an always well done burger served in tin foil. Most of them are as good or better than Five Guys. But yes, Red Robin is the worst of them.

We're all idiots because Five Guys management is genius.

They said, let's take a full service restaurant operation, take away the entire menu except for the hamburger, fries and hotdog, cook every burger to the edge of burning it, serve it to them in tin foil, and act like we're a fast food joint so they'll compare our burgers to McDonald's, Wendy's and Burger King and think we're awesome.

Five Guys didn't invent a better way to make hamburgers. They've just convinced everyone to think they're competing against fast food places.

A trip to Five Guys is faster for me than a trip to Burger King.

I had 5 guys today. 15 bucks for a burger, regular fries and medium drink.

I won't go back. It is not a terrible burger, but I can pay a helluva lot less to make my own and it will taste better. I am not a huge fan of fries, so that does nothing for me.

I did enjoy the root beer. Its one of my guilty pleasures.

I get in out of Jake's Burgers with a superior burger, better fries, a beer and a tip for less than 5 guys. And they don't yell at all.
