Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (2 Viewers)

had a "little" burger and "little" fries yesterday= $16. fries were equivalent to 2-3 orders elsewhere.

fries were better than times past- more crispy, less salt.
burger was ok.

only went to them out of convenience (was running errands and they were near by).

when will i learn? ... not motivated to return

Is Five Guys still about $83 for a burger?
I would assume so, but just about every fast-ish food joint is super expensive. I went to a Farmer Boys a week or so back and it was $19 for a burger, fries and drink. Only reason I went there is the same meal was on special for $11 a month or two ago. Funny thing is they had some promotion for a burger with some fried onions and a weird sauce on it for $11. Looking back I should have just ordered that without the funky crap on it and saved myself $8.

An In N Out Double Double is still less than $6 with tax. Even here in CA. Me and my girlfriend share a well done Fries and drink sodas from home. She does a lot of add ons too. Adds pickles/peppers. And asks for like 9 ketchup's and 6 spreads haha (which are free) and it's about $20ish to feed both of us. Unless we get a puppy patty for our dog, they only charge us $1 for it.

This will sound counterintuitive, but I really wish In n Out would significantly increase their prices. I almost never go because the lines anywhere near a meal time are absurdly long and they aren't nearly as good at getting people through quickly as places like Chik fil A are. I wish they'd sacrifice some volume for profit margin.

I usually go at 10:30 am. They'll start taking orders as soon as they are prepped. Then eat a early lunch or late breakfast (if im being a pig) or air fry it later just to toast up the fries and buns. But yeah , the lines can get ridiculous at peak times. I feel ya. My In N Out literally has a Chik Fil A across the street. At peak Lunch/Dinner times, that intersection is a madhouse haha

Just found out Whataburger is coming back to Tampa Bay and they've started turning an Aussie Grill that closed last year into a Whataburger 2 miles from my house that will open in 2026.

I love a burger for breakfast sometimes and being able to get one at 8am if I want is gonna be pretty sweet. Also their breakfast taquitos are great late night food.

Flying into LAX with my boys today. First thing we will do is hit up the In N Out on Supelveda. The boys are excited for the trip and one of the things they are looking forward to is trying In N Out. We had Five Guys last week which my older boy likes a good amount (younger still prefers McDonald's lol).

It's one of the things I miss the most about living in Texas. Forget Taco Bell, the midnight run to Whataburger for their taquitos were the best way to end a night of polluting your body. You're a lucky man!

Hamburgers! The cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast....

Every now and again I'll get a craving for a McD's cheeseburger. The OG. Not anything else, just their original cheeseburger, fresh and hot. I don't know why, but that just tastes so good to me.

Well.... after Five Guys, he rated that 7/10. Then I asked about McD's and he said 10/10. I failed as a father.

Same here. The two cheeseburger meal just hits some times.

And their breakfast is tops for fast food, in my opinion. Their hashbrowns/OJ go together so well and the egg mcmuffin with ham is great.

I refuse to eat White Castle hamburgers but their breakfast is really good.

McD's sausage egg McMuffin makes an appearance in my mornings maybe 2 times a year and I eat two of them when I do before I ever exit the car. :bag:

Take out the egg and I am right there with you. Sausage mcmuffin at the start of a road trip or going to early morning travel ball games is amazing.

If I get daring I take a hashbrown and put it in the mcmuffin. Also great

5 Guys or In N Out burger stuffing would be amazing this Thanksgiving. Burger-based stuffing recipes seem to be the new food trend on social media. Family would never go for it though.

There are now 2 White Castles in Florida (one in Orlando and one in Clermont that just opened), and they're opening 2 more next year in Kissimmee and Daytona.

It's only a matter of time before we get one around here. Cmon, White Castle, let's get the ball rolling!!!

McDs for breakfast before swim meets or volleyball tournaments is not an uncommon thing for me. Outside of that, I rarely go to McDs for breakfast.

Just heard a Del Taco is opening down the road too. I haven't been to one in over 30 years, I wonder if it will hold up to how I remember it. I'm betting it wont.

Inedible.

The only hamburger I refuse to eat. Absolutely horrible. I have no idea how they are in business.

Likely will hit one up while in LA this week but every time I went to one in past years it wasn't like what I remembered.... but I think fond memories attached as a kid likely have made it better in my head than it really ever was.

This is what I'm expecting, but I gotta try it and see. If nothing else, maybe the taste/nostalgia will take me back.

When I was 16, I ate 2 McMuffins on the way to the county championship swim meet. They weren't sitting great as I arrived (likely the savage hangover's work) but one must persevere.

Halfway through the 50 meter fly, as I turned at the wall, I threw up enough McMuffin to fill my mouth. Not wanting to let any leak into the pool and jeopardize the entire meet, I had to hold it in my mouth and not breathe for the last 25 meters. As soon as I touched the wall to end the race, I instantly, and basically in one motion, hoisted myself out of the pool, took 3 quick steps to the grass and spit the mouthful of partially digested McDonald's all over the place in full view of hundreds of horrified competitors and spectators. That was fun.

P.S. I clocked a 29.79 and finished 2nd in the county. It might have actually helped me finish faster.

Illinois is 25 yard pools mostly with some having movable bulkhead that apparently never move because for long course season most of our large ISI meets are in Indiana

McDonald's breakfast on the way up the mountain on a ski day is a common occurrence.

I think we had both yards and meters at the local schools/clubs. Not a 50m pool to be found anywhere. Walls were never a strong point for me, so I typically fared better in 50m pools (if not timewise, definitely relative to the competition.)

Not gonna lie, In N Out is kinda meh

It’s the burger equivalent of Chick Fil A. Consistently mediocre

And I will not stand for the White Castle hate. Granted, there’s a time and place for them and it usually after midnight. can’t think of the last time over ever just grabbed them for dinner

Kids enjoyed the In n Out even though it was past midnight our time before we ate. My little guy gave it a 9 which is higher than Five Guys 7.5 but still short of McDs 10. Older gave it 9.5 which is his highest. I enjoyed the first one in about 4 or 5 years for me.

Just heard a Del Taco is opening down the road too. I haven't been to one in over 30 years, I wonder if it will hold up to how I remember it. I'm betting it wont.
There is a Del Taco right next door to our hotel. It is new... or at least new to me but I haven't been to my hometown on super long. So the maybe turned into a definite.

It’s a good ff burger (was better 15 years ago).

My choice would be to add 5 guys toppings to in - n - out burgers
