Florida boy killed by Neighborhood Watch (1 Viewer)

Ya thats it, those of us that actually care that an innocent 17 yo kid that was buying his little baby brother skittles , was killed in a fist fight he never saw coming, are in fact just REALLY upset that zimmerman was armed in the first place.
His brother was a teenager...
Is it even his brother?
little step brother from his dads GF
Just another thing the media got wrong here.

There are a lot of things to consider with the given scenario "can I shoot an unarmed person if they want to fight me?" You have to decide what you want to do and be prepared for the consequences plain and simple.

If you think doing 3 to 5 years hard time in a state penitentiary for manslaughter is no problem, then by all means shoot that unarmed guy who picked a fight with you because he feels you slighted him somehow.

State prison is full of people who made the wrong decision in when and under what circumstances to use their firearm. They aren't bad people, they just made a poor choice when they thought that using their gun would be on solid ground.

You can sit on the witness stand crying all day long saying how that scary looking guy who turned out was only two years younger than you and considered to be about average size and shape could have hit you in the temple and killed you... may have been able to strike you in the trachea and crush your larynx and all sorts of hypothetical outcomes until you are blue in the face. At the end of the day... the law and the courts "generally" frown on those who pull a gun and shoot an unarmed person who was foolish enough/drunk enough to pick a fight with someone they didn't know was armed.

Now, with that said, are there circumstances where shooting an unarmed person is excusable? Absolutely, but they are relatively rare and few in the numbers of situations. Your hypothetical explanations of "well he could have hit me here and that may have done this to me" is not going to be a satisfactory answer to a grand jury or a jury of your peers.

Getting a broken nose and some bruised ribs or a black eye or maybe a tooth knocked out is "generally" not considered to be a life threatening injury or even a serious crippling injury no matter how much you say that hypothetically you could have gotten a detached retina from the black eye, or you could have choked to death if you swallowed that broken tooth.

These are the facts... You have a gun! The other guy doesn't! You know you have a "stacked deck"... the other guy doesn't know you have a gun until you pull it out and shoot him with it! He believed he was fighting another unarmed guy!

Bullies, drunk or otherwise who like to fight people, don't pick fights with people they knew beforehand to have a gun! Therefore the prosecutor in the criminal case or the attorneys for his estate in the wrongful death case will argue the "unarmed victim" you killed may have been drunk, and may have been a bully... but he thought he was fighting a man "on common ground" and it did not warrant being shot down in a fixed and unfair fight! (May not be 1st degree murder, but probably good enough to send you away for a few years for involuntary manslaughter!)

The courts will hold you to a higher standard of care to avoid the situation, walk away and maybe even going to extrordanary means in not bringing your gun out even if the guy manages to hit you a few times.

Again, are there circumstances where shooting an unarmed person justifiable? YES! But you are on very shakey ground. If you are going to claim there was a "disparity of force" you should have some very compelling reasons that are clear and obvious to the court or grand jury. (Hypothetical explainations are really not going to be acceptable.) Disparity of Force is not just a loose term to throw out in court. You must be able to clearly show the factors that pertain to that disparity in order to convince a jury to excuse you for taking the life of an unarmed person. There has to be some accountability for taking someones life.

What about someone having their heads slammed into the ground? If there is evidence Treyvon was slamming Zimmerman's head into the ground, he got what he deserved.

Based upon what? Have we seen all the eyewitness accounts? Have we seen what any of the people who examined Zimmerman have said? Just because you feel that way isn't much of a basis for that claim.

If you're a teenaged kid and some creepy old guy is following you around and you don't know who the #### he is and it's nighttime and you don't know the neighborhood and he's stalking you for 20 minutes and gets out of his car to come after you and you get into a fight with him and slam his head into the ground, did he get what he deserved?
I have no idea the legal precedent, but IMO slamming someone's head into the ground is attempted murder. Being a creepy guy guy is not justification to attempt to murder him. So yes, if he slammed Zimmerman's head into the ground no matter how creepy a guy he was, Treyvon got what he deserved.

He did not know the neighborhood, yet he chose to walk to the store at night? He even went into an apartment building (to get out of the rain supposedly), in this neighborhood that he did not know.

It's unfortunate, but it does sound like self defense.

Okay.

An online reporter claims to have contacted Sanford officials and wrote that those officials deny the presence of neo-Nazis in Sanford...

“At this time the City of Sanford has not confirmed the presence of Neo-Nazis groups.”

My follow up:

“You say “not confirmed.” Is there any indication of such patrols that the Department is aware of?”

Further Response from Sanford Joint Information Center:

We have no indication of any such patrols at this point in Sanford. The only large gathering was the children and their parents at the Easter egg hunt.”

When did this happen?

So now you are a statistical percentage expert too. Because this mistake had negative ramifications that will haunt this network for years, one could argue just as plausibly that due to the foreseeable negative publicity, the likelihood it was intentional was also way south of 10%. Unless you were there (and neither of us were) it is irresponsible to speculate what happened with over a 90% certainly.
You could make that argument and it would be stupid. That is not a mistake an intelligent, experienced, and competent editor makes. Perhaps he is an idiot who has trouble with the English language, but that is about the only explanation for that 'mistake'.
Not any more stupid than your argument. :potkettle:
I do think it's rather silly to suggest this "mistake" made it past everyone's eyes at NBC and no one saw the "zimmerman is a racist" angle... Especially since it was already the narrative of the media so far..
Nope - this seems quite plausible, they assumed the guy was doing his job properly and simply missed it at the time: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/08/nbc-news-trayvon-martin-zimmerman-error_n_1410913.html

Capus confirmed a previous Reuters report that an internal network investigation had determined that a producer made the editing error, and that the network's editorial controls - including senior broadcast producer oversight, script editors and often legal and standards department reviews of sensitive material to be broadcast - simply missed the selective editing of the phone call.
"Everybody missed it  Just the biggest story of the year, and not one of us saw it"... Sure.. The recording was not the only problem, the recording was edited in a manner "accidentally" coincidental to match there topic and narrative.."Is this a racist event? We don't know, listen for yourself"

You guys are a barrel of laughs.. You are just trying to be difficult right.. You can't really think this was an excusable accident..

What Trayvon Martin’s tweets say about him

While online critics say Trayvon Martin’s digital footprint reveal a violent streak, his Twitter feed shows that he was a typical teen.

Trayvon Martin liked girls, hated high school and was planning for college. He loved rap music and enjoyed cracking jokes on Twitter about street culture. The 17-year-old high school junior known as “Slimm” tweeted thousands of times over a period of months. His last 160-character message came just two days before he was gunned down in a gated townhouse community in Sanford.

But in the racially divisive media hype that has followed the teenager’s controversial killing, pages of nonsensical Twitter updates written back when Trayvon’s biggest concerns were getting a call back from a girl are now being examined and scrutinized by bloggers around the nation. Critics call attention to his tattoos, an empty marijuana bag found in his school book bag, and a photo that purports to show him with gold teeth — “grills,” in hip-hop parlance — to show that he had a violent nature and that his family deliberately tried to keep this image from the public. His email accounts were hacked by white supremacists and his tweets were exposed by the conservative website The Daily Caller.
By cross-referencing tweets from his account with those of people mentioned throughout, The Miami Herald was able to show the account was, in fact, Trayvon Martin’s.

A review of the account, which has since been taken down, portrays a typical teenager with a sense of humor and a preoccupation with girls. He is sometimes vulgar when discussing sex, and he often quotes explicit song lyrics. At times it’s difficult to discern what’s a song lyric and what’s not. How many of Trayvon’s tweets can be taken as literal is up for grabs.

There are certain things that can be gleaned about Trayvon from his tweets:

He loved the films Friday, starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker, and Next Friday, both of which poke fun at street culture. He posted YouTube clips from the films.

He often made fun of street culture, such as the time he retweeted this joke: “If you use kool-aid as hair dye #youghetto.”
Trayvon’s Gmail account also surfaced briefly. The website Gawker was able to obtain a screen shot of what his inbox looked like before the account was deleted. The inbox showed almost every email was in reference to upcoming SAT exams, scholarship opportunities, and invitations to an open house at Saint Leo University, a Catholic liberal-arts school between Tampa and Orlando.

Tray's GF said, tray said "someone's watching me" and them when Tray confronted Zimm, he says "why you following me" Zimm says "what are you doing here".. None of that sounds like Trasy was scared, or that he didn't have an opportunity to talk things out, or that he didn't understand at some point that Zimm was just looking after the neighborhood.. So, if Tray did attack him after that exchange, then he was in the wrong.. And if he did knock Zimm down, climb on top, and start pounding his head into the concrete, he deserved to be shot..

I've been following all this fringe stuff for over a week at other sites but not willing to post it here because too much if it involves people who are still alive. This thread is laughably behind the good ones out there though. I wouldn't call Tray typical, but then I'm not familiar with Miami teens. There's degrees of crude, carnal, coarse, wannabe with all of them, but Tray is an advanced case compared to the high school kids I coach. It's been avoided by the mainstream until what you posted, but the bit about him having a burglary tool (whatever that is) and being in possession of a bunch of women's jewelry is a valid concern. That sure isn't typical by any standard we should accept.

There's also been some videos of him attending/referring maybe even assisting in "fight club" like matches on campus. Those vids were quickly removed but a few sites still have stills. There were no clips of him fighting just sort of conducting a fight. I wouldn't suspect this kid was afraid of physical confrontation though. He may or may not have boasted about punching a bus driver and that may or may not have been a reason for the last suspension. The twitter account with the possible boast was also deleted but his "big bro's" account had a reply to the boast that makes some believe he punched a driver. It's all a big meh, but interesting for those who want a better picture than his team has painted.

Or.. :gasp:.. be caught on school property with weed, or stolen property... Or defacing school property.. Or maybe take a swing at a bus driver, or a neighborhood watch guy..Don't forget the tatoos.."No_limit_(N-word)"

Fearing that the lack of race riots in the Sanford community is a sure sign of upcoming race riots in the Sanford community, "concerned" citizens swing into action.

Neo-Nazis are currently conducting heavily armed patrols in and around Sanford, Florida and are "prepared" for violence in the case of a race riot. The patrols are to protect "white citizens in the area who are concerned for their safety" in the wake of the Trayvon Martin shooting last month, says Commander Jeff Schoep of the National Socialist Movement. "We are not advocating any type of violence or attacks on anybody, but we are prepared for it," he says. "We are not the type of white people who are going to be walked all over."
Good for them

Trayvon Martin killing: UN human rights chief calls for investigation

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/9189884/Trayvon-Martin-killing-UN-human-rights-chief-calls-for-investigation.html

UN Human Rights chief Navi Pillay has called for an "immediate investigation" into the circumstances surrounding the death of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed black teen who was shot dead by a volunteer neighbourhood watchman in Florida.

Ms Pillay made the comments about the controversial case at a press conference in Barbados, as she wrapped up a three-day visit to the Caribbean island nation.

"As High Commissioner for Human Rights, I call for an immediate investigation," she said.

"Justice must be done for the victim. It's not just this individual case. It calls into question the delivery of justice in all situations like this."

Neighbourhood watch captain George Zimmerman, a white Hispanic, fatally shot 17-year-old Martin inside a gated community in the Florida town of Sanford on February 26.

Mr Zimmerman has said he acted in self-defense after Martin punched him in the nose, knocked him down and slammed his head into the ground.

The case has unleashed a national uproar over race relations and the right to self-defense in the United States.

Ms Pillay expressed shock that Zimmerman was not arrested right away, and expressed concern about Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law, which allows the use of deadly force in situations where there is a belief of a threat.

"The law should operate equally in respect of all violations. I will be awaiting an investigation and prosecution and trial and of course reparations for the victims concerned," Ms Pillay said.

Since Martin's death, there have been numerous large public protests calling for Zimmerman's arrest, but there have been no detention orders and the 28-year-old has gone into hiding, fearing for his life.

It's all a big meh, but interesting for those who want a better picture than his team has painted.
really? seriously??

When Racism Doesn't Make the News

13 year old white kid set on fire by two black kids.

Like most people, when I read the trial-by-media reports of how Trayvon Martin was killed, it sounded terribly unjust, wrong, a tragedy of epic proportions.

It also sure sounded like law-enforcement may have blown it by not making an arrest.

But when the race hustlers like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and race hustler-in-chief Barack Obama started exploiting the incident, I began to think we were being conned once, again, by the vicious, biased, America-hating, leftist-controlled press.

Now it’s looking more like even I was fooled at first.

A newly released eyewitness report suggests the black teenager was pummeling the neighborhood watch captain on the ground, who was crying for help when he finally fired a single shot. So it appears the cops made the right call in not arresting George Zimmerman after all.

Maybe now the media will leave this one to law enforcement and the criminal justice department to sort out without jumping to conclusions.

But don’t expect any mea culpas from the news media that distorted this case to the point of national hysteria – even prompting death threats to the police chief.

Why?

Because the national news media are a hopelessly broken cultural institution.

They were ready to lynch George Zimmerman, who now appears to be no more than an upright Hispanic gentleman concerned about suspicious activity in his neighborhood – someone who probably did what he had to do in a very trying circumstance.

Meanwhile, another form of insidious racism – real racism – is leading to abominable hate crimes that go virtually unnoticed by the race-conscious witch-hunters in the media.

An example?

I hope you are not eating when you read the rest of this column.

A 13-year-old white boy was walking home from school last Tuesday in Kansas City when two black 16-year-olds accosted him two blocks from his home, chased him to his home as he struggled to get his front door open, doused him with gasoline and set him on fire with a Bic lighter, one of them saying, “This is what you deserve. You get what you deserve, white boy.”

He was consumed in “a large fireball” that burned his face and hair, according to the Kansas City police department.

“It was pretty bad stuff,” Detective Stacey Taylor told a local TV station.

The boy himself struggled to call 9-1-1, according to his mother, Melissa Coon. He was rushed to the hospital where the medical team fears he may have suffered permanent damage to his eyes and lungs.

Coon said she believes the students attend East High School with her son. But she will not be returning her son there even if he recovers. In fact, her family is so traumatized by the attack they plan to move from the area.

“My 5-year-old came in and asked me, ‘Mom, am I going to get set on fire today?’” Coon said. “I was in tears. We were told it’s a hate crime.”

Yes, I would say so. This is a real hate crime – the kind you won’t likely see reported on the national media and the kind you won’t likely hear race-hustling politicians like Sharpton, Jackson and Obama talking about.

Why?

Obama pointed out to the nation that if he had a son he would look like Trayvon Martin. That was somehow relevant to Obama. The implication is certainly that he cares more about kids who look like they could be his kids. Maybe it’s just that simple.

By the way, it is entirely plausible, though it is too early to assume, that the perpetrators in this hideous attack were actually inspired by the media’s drummed up hysterics about racism in the case of Trayvon Martin.

Wouldn’t that compound this tragedy?

Maybe Ms Pillay should be investigating the member countries who commit human rights violations daily

Out of curiosity, could you toss us some links?
No. I'm interested in the case and dug in on my own. You can do the same. What some did tweeting addresses was wrong. The sites use that information and more that this thread hasn't seen yet, but I'm sure it will all come out eventually. Where better information is acknowledged both sides of the conversation agree Trayvon did not go home when he easily could have, and he did backtrack towards Zimmerman's vehicle. It's not in doubt except where people are ignorant of basic information. I've explained this carefully a few times using Zimmerman's call, the time, and the other calls. I've almost included the map that makes it very clear, but it pinpoints those residences. I can walk you to anonymous witness John's front door. I can do that with all the witnesses but one who may actually be John anyway. I've seen and listened to John. I've seen Trayvon refereeing fights on campus and read all his facebook and twitter junk. He was apparently supplying a friend with "plant" and that has some thinking he was a dealer. Not me.I would just as soon shove a pencil in my eye than post links you've used, btw. If this was my site and someone was spinning white supremacist spin, I would ban that person. Sorry.

If Zimmerman is acquitted or the grand jury no billed, are they going to make reparations for destroying his life?Does he have a case against anyone for that?

He destroyed his own life, and killed somebody. Sad story.

The only people not exercising common sense are those insisting that the only explanation is that it was an innocent mistake. You don't know the guy who did it and you have no way to know if he had an ulterior motive.
That would make the people insisting/insinuating that it was a dishonest mistake equally ridiculous.
No, but it is funny how certain people here are willing to call what NBC did an honest mistake and not racially/ratings motivated, but yet those same people are convinced they know that what Zimmerman did was racially motivated beyond a shadow of doubt.

What about someone having their heads slammed into the ground? If there is evidence Treyvon was slamming Zimmerman's head into the ground, he got what he deserved.
i seriously doubt he was
I thought you knew what happened.
i do...he hit his head once falling back when he and trey started wrestling. What else do you want to know
Were they wearing singlets and the proper headgear?
Hoodie (menacing) and a Tek 9 (safety first), though it sounds like Zimmerman (once again) didn't follow the rules (tap out).
