What is ‘flurona’? Coronavirus and influenza co-infections reported as omicron surges.

Cases have been detected in countries including United States, Israel, Brazil, the Philippines and Hungary.

New year, new coronavirus term?

Many people around the world kicked off 2022 by searching for more information about “flurona,” after Israel reported that two young pregnant women had tested positive for both the coronavirus and the flu.

Doctors have long been concerned about the potential impact of a “twindemic” — with influenza cases rising as covid-19 cases threaten to overwhelm hospitals — and called on people to get flu shots and coronavirus vaccinations. On the other hand, “flurona” refers to when one person has both respiratory infections at the same time — which health officials say is a possibility as cases of the highly contagious omicron variant of the coronavirus surge this winter across the world.

The first case of “Fluorona” reported in Israel, a combined infection of COVID-19 and influenza

Jerusalem, January 2: Israel has reportedly recorded the first case of “Fluorona”, a co-infection with Covid-19 and influenza.

According to the news website Ynetnews, the double infection was first identified in a woman who gave birth at the Rabin Medical Center in Petachikva.

According to the hospital, young mothers have not been vaccinated against either pathogen. Israel has detected the first case of “Fluorona” disease, the report said.

According to the report, the Ministry of Health is still investigating relatively mild cases, and it has not yet been determined whether the combination of the two viruses will cause more serious illness.

Health officials estimate that many other patients also have both bugs, but have not been diagnosed.

“Last year we did not witness cases of influenza among pregnant or childbirth women,” said Arnon Vizhnitser, an obstetrician and gynecologist and hospital gynecologist.

“Today, both coronavirus and flu cases are starting to have headaches. More and more pregnant women are getting the flu,” Vizhnitser added.

A case of “flurona” — the rare simultaneous infection of COVID-19 and the seasonal flu— has been detected in a child in California, a testing site revealed Wednesday.

The case was detected at the 911 COVID testing site set up at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, NBC4 reported.

The infected child had just returned from a vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, according to the testing company.

They were experiencing “very mild symptoms” that could have easily been confused with sinusitis, CEO Steve Farzam said.

The child didn’t require hospitalization and went home with their parents after being tested, Farzam added.

Los Angeles County health officials have not yet commented on the flurona case.

According to officials, the flurona case was detected at the Getty Center in Southern California on Jan. 5, 2022.

It comes after another flurona case was detected in a child in Texas on Monday.

Officials at the Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston said the patient wasn’t hospitalized after being infected with both influenza A and COVID-19 — and was recovering at home.

No further details about the child’s symptoms were released by the hospital.

CEO Steve Farzam said the patient was experiencing only “mild” symptoms thus far.

“This is one confirmed case and, of course, we’ll be working with our colleagues across the country to see if there are more cases and whether we will see a distinct pattern in these cases,” said Dr. Jim Versalovic, the hospital’s pathologist-in-chief.

It wasn’t immediately clear if there have been other confirmed cases in the US. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention didn’t immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Israel announced this week it had detected its first flurona case in an unvaccinated pregnant woman.

The unidentified woman experienced only mild symptoms of each after she arrived at the Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva, the Times of Israel said.

The patient in California had symptoms that could’ve been confused with sinusitis, according to Farzam.

She was discharged from the hospital last Thursday and was said to be in a good condition.

The Israeli Health Ministry is studying her case to see whether a combination of the two bugs could cause more severe illness.

I bet I had Flurona.  Week of Christmas I was coughing and no covid.  Week later the cough is gone and then I test positive for covid.

I'd imagine just about any combination of diseases is possible, especially ones as widespread as influenza and COVID.  It's bound to happen at some point and I'm not sure it needs its own name...unless one's goal is to scare people for some reason.

Covihepati-erpies has now been discovered. It appears localized to adult establishments where males exchange dollar bills with scantily clad members of the opposite sex. The CDC recommends at performers wear full length burkas while working to minimize the chance of infection

That was my reaction as well. It's not like they've combined to form one super virus. It just means you were simultaneously exposed to both viruses. I'm sure it sucks to experience it, but it's not the existential threat posed by, say, murder hornets.
