Turns out, he does practice this. And there's a reason for it. The coach was the coach of this team last year, which pulled the 21-man faint prank on their QB in practice. This year, they were practicing the fake punt play, and on a fake punt the guy can't go downfield or it's a penalty (because he's covered up on that side of the line). So he has to be very obviously not downfield during the play. So someone suggested he pull the faint routine, and he was hamming it up so well the coach decided to go with it. No way the ref could mistakenly throw the flag that he crossed the LOS.
