Football guys podcasts... (1 Viewer)

What is the best way to download these to itunes? I downloaded them to my desktop and then imported them to itunes. It seems like there has to be a faster way. Anyone else who listens to the podcasts have a better way for me?

Thanks

(sorry if this is the wrong forum for this)

Bump as this is how I import them to iTunes as well. Can the podcast be registered with Apple so users can download directly from iTunes?

I think as of now that is the only way to add it to itunes. You can subscribe to many podcasts, then itunes will automatically download them for you, however, i dont think that can be done with the footballguys podcast as fo yet.

Not an iTunes user, but can't you just download them and then import from file system into iTunes like any other mp3?

It's very easy to add them to the apple podcast directory, and I've gotten much worse FFB podcasts directly from apple. They just need to register it with apple.

i believe thats what he is doing. However, he wants to find an easier way than that.

All they would need to do is create an RSS XML file for each Podcast, and then it would make it really easy to download into I-Tunes.

How do you make that type of file?
Sorry, I should clarify. Footballguys would need to create the RSS XML file and post it on their website, then you could subscribe to their Podcasts. You would be able to go into iTunes, under the Advanced menu --> Subscribe to Podcasts and then enter the xml link. Here is an example of a site that does this.

i was more or less asking how could they do that? is it easy to do? and if so i would like to see this done.

It is really simple to do - every one of the thousands of other sites with a podcast does it. It is just a differente HTML file that has some special tags in it. No additional hardware or anything really. I'm sure wikipedia has some good links on how to do it.

It's really easy. I used a utility called FeedForAll. Here are instructions on how to use it for podcasting. I also created an xml file that downloaded Footballguys Podcast #4 - Part 1 into iTunes.
Code:

Footballguys Podcasts

Podcast #4 - Preseason Watch List QBs

[/URL]
[/URL]

Podcast #4 - Part 1

Cecil - Intro, Taking Shots

        <enclosure url="[URL="http://podcast.footballguys.com/Footballguys-Audible-2006-Vol4a.mp3"]http://podcast.footballguys.com/Footballguys-Audible-2006-Vol4a.mp3"[/URL] length="2201" type="audio/mp3"/>

As a regular on "The Audible", I would like to let you all know that we are taking this suggestion seriously.

The podcasts are brand new, and we're working out all the kinks as for how to get them recorded, edited, uploaded and ready for distribution.

These "next level" types of issues (such as availability on iTunes) is a very valid suggestion, and I'm sure Cecil Lammey will look into it.

Keep all the suggestions and questions coming. It is nice to know that this new feature is popular enough to warrant further improvements.

Thanks.

The reason I haven't listened to any of the FBG podcasts is that its not easy for me to get them on my iPod. Last I checked, it looked like they were broken up into 10-20 files that I would have to download one at a time and then load into iTunes. Also, I'm not sure when they are released so I could even go and add the latest one.The beauty of getting them into the iTunes format is that I just have to click one button to subscribe to the podcast and then iTunes does all the work for checking for new ones and automatically loading them to my iPod.

This makes it TREMENDOUSLY easier for us millions of iPod users and will probably get you guys alot more listeners.

It is pretty entertaining stuff. What else are you going to do while your walking the dog? One thing though is the sound has some wierd background buzzing or something.

buzzing is from skype. we use the NFL Films music at 4% total volume to help mask it.

humor me... what is skype?

I don't listen to them either since they are not podcasts (please quite calling them that). They are some mp3 files thrown on a web page. Very 1998 of you FBG.

You don't have to add them to the iTunes music store, just create the very simple RSS TEXT FILE and put it on your own site. It really is that simple. You guys have all these cool programs like DD and you can't create a text file? Sorry but you've been "looking into" creating a text file for a month now. It's a text file, come on.

While your at it Cec ... how about getting off the fence on such issues as "Cheerleaders and Marcus Vick and the Oaktown D" etc ... speak your mind boy!!! :lmao:

the best part of The Audible 4 ... hands down!!

Your cheerleader impersonation definately rivals Bloom's man-love for B Marshall squeel ... keep up the very entertaining and informative good work guy's!

Thanks Mapmaker, glad you enjoy the show!I still think Bloom's squeal takes the cake.

VOIP - phone calls and chat over innernet.
Is that the best phone solution? Aren't there others out there that wouldn't have that background noise?
skype has the best capability for what we use it for. All of us are across the country and skype has a huge conference call setting. Check the first podcast with me and Bloom for a good ole phone interview. The sound quality is much worse.

When is the RB version of the audible coming out?
Very soon. My wife and I are expecting our 3rd child here in a day or two. I am taking some time off to help out my wife, but we should have the podcast out before the start of training camp.

Just wanted to throw in my two cents. I really enjoy the podcasts and would definitely prefer a way to get them right onto my iPod.

One very small suggestion I have has to do with the insertion of various sound clips throughout the podcast. Personally, I usually don't find them very funny. I think the commentary you guys make is humorous enough and the fact that these clips are usually thrown in mid-sentence only ends up distracting me. The quality on them isn't great (though the sound quality overall on the podcasts has improved...thanks!) and sometimes I can't even tell what the clip was to get the joke.

Sure, when Fred Norris does it on Stern it usually adds to the humor, but that is because they are sound effects and not voice clips where the listener has to switch mental/audible gears to get the joke. Then again, he has been doing it for decades so it probably comes easier to him.

Bottom line, if it were up to me I'd reduce or remove those clip insertions and let the humor of the FBGs doing the commentary shine through as is. Hopefully this didn't come off as a complaint, but as constructive criticism.

I am really enjoying listening to FF talk while I am working. Does anyone know of any other podcast out there? I already listened to the ones from the extra point, the ones by Russ Bliss (best overall), and another lame one by two rednecks who try and make t comical. Other than that, everything I found is from the 2005 season.

I am with a couple of the other people in this thread...I want to listen to them, but not having the RSS file is huge....and like kbcrowe said, its a text file. Put it on the Podcast page you have up, and iPod users copy it into itunes. All you have to do is update it when you get a new Podcast, and it is auto-magically fed to all Podcast listeners.

C'mon...Mooks77 even gave you what you need for Podcast #4. If you want help with this, let me know....it is Friggin EASY, and would increase you listeners 10-fold.

But I wonder if they can only restrict them to paying customers then? Can you set it up so you have to enter a password or something to access the podcast from itunes or will it be free to all?

That is a good question. Didn't realize the podcasts were going to be just for paying customers.

You all can relax - I have it on good authority that it will be free content this year.

I'll be the first (but probably not the last) to say I'm not a fan of that approach. Maybe give previews (first few minutes of a broadcast) to non-members, but not the whole thing.

Not a complaint at all, just personal preference. The clips are something I just throw in from my twisted mind. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. I do try to limit the number of clips per show, because too much would be overkill. The "you latin's are so hot blooded" ones will always remain. :lmao: Thanks for the opinion!

Definitely good to hear that you're on your way with this.I have one more suggestion along the lines of "next level" issues:

Perhaps you should consider a better naming convention for these files' tags. What you've got will suffice, I guess, for computer-based audio programs, but we all know the idea is to tailor these for portable listening, via iPod or other MP3 player and their smallish screens.

- Maybe Name the file "The Audible - Part A (or Part 4A) - Intro, Taking Shots".

- Keep the Artist field as "Footballguys.com" (be consistent with this and drop the "Podcast". It's kinda redundant, since once you set this up as a proper RSS feed, it'll automatically go into the Podcasts section in iTunes/iPod.

- If you guys are going to keep breaking up a podcast (or volume) into separate files, it makes sense then to keep your Album field along the lines of "Volume 4" or "2006 - Volume 4".

- Individual contributors can either be placed in the Comments field or even back in the Name field. Both iTunes and the iPod will scroll a track name if it's lengthy.

That's it. Nice, neat and efficient use of the Song Name - Artist - Album hierachy in software/portable players.

Just my :2cents: .
