Football question for my x and o fans of the game (2 Viewers)

I was reading article about Dallas trying to come up with ways to get Dez the ball. It got me to wondering. Why do you think NFL coaches have a hard time with the notion of getting the ball to ya best player as much as possible?

I'm a Ravens fan and I watched us lose to the bears after not being able to convert a 3rd down in OT on a dropped pass by Tandon Doss. My question is why was that pass not thrown to Torrey Smith? To me when the game is on the line you go with ya best play to ya best player.

If I were a coach and romo my Qb if he throws 40 passes there's no way 15-20 of those would not be to Dez Bryant!!

Dez has been consistently double teamed. Getting him the ball is akin to asking Romo to throw an ill-advised pass.

However, were I the coach with any of the studs, I'd have them running motion every damn play. At least give them a better chance to get away from obvious double teams and perhaps even confuse the defense for a big play via broken coverage.

Exactly I'm not just talking Dez it happens everywhere. Why not motion ya best wr run reverses line him up in the backfield do whatever it takes to get the ball in ya best players hands! Can you imagine the 80's 49ers going away from jerry rice because of coverage or cowboys going away from Irving?

likely has to do with their ability to run routes.

if you are throwing to a spot that you know the player can get to, it doesn't matter what the coverage is.

if they are average at running routes, they have to be a little more open to throw them the ball, hence it's hard to throw to them if they are doubled.

also has to do with how accurate the quarterback is.

because if ya was a coach ya'd say there's no way I'm letting dez beat us, and ya'd find a way to take him away.

then romo would throw into coverage and get picked off and ya'd be on here #####ing about him the next day with a romo sux thread.

ya heard?

:goodposting:

To add, not only in motion, but line him up in the backfield and motion him out in either direction. That would really eff up coverages. But all of this assumes that Dez is smart enough to execute the strategy...

To me it's not just with Dez and it's not just route running it's about game planning and execution.

You go into each wk knowing ya stud wr stud Te etc is gonna get covered tightly so u game plan different things to get them open or create match ups! I think there's a reason Jimmy Graham always seem open it's not just because of his talent or Bree's it's because his coach has a creative offensive mind and designs things to get him open or put him in best situation To succceed

Just speaking on the Dez thing. He can't separate at all. If he gets pressed he is terrible at getting seperation. Everyone says he is getting doubled. I wouldn't really call cover 2 with man underneath double teamed.

Michael Irving never got Separation neither did Boldin in his prime both monsters

I've read several posters say Romo uses Witten as a security blanket too much. One point of evidence are the animated gifs below from earlier this year, where Dez Bryant is yelling at both Witten and Romo on the sidelines. Apparently, Dez is getting really mad that Romo won't stop locking onto Witten.

When great WRs like Dez go through lulls, people ask "why aren't they targetting him more"?

When great WRs like Dez have great games with a lot of catches, yards, and TDs, people ask "why don't they double team that guy every single play"?

I am thinking both questions are related in some capacity.
