They're current as of 7/31
http://www.footballguys.com/wrproj.cfm
Want to see where we drop Marcus Robinson? Check it out. Of
course, like most things we do, they're all sortable in a jillion
different ways plus you can look at the players by position or break
it down by teams. I've looked hard around the net and I'll gladly
stack our projections against any site's out there.

New Articles.
As you've come to expect from us, tons of new articles are up

with two great articles: here's the first
http://www.footballguys.com/holmgoldenrules.htm I finally caught up

FFChamps who are putting up the $5,000 for their experts league this
year. For you guys with Individual Defensive Players, Tom
Nadratowski takes a look at the Defensive Lineman

least, my partner David Dodds squares off in a "Martha Stewart vs.
Footballguys" battle. She doesn't stand a chance…

Manning Has Virus in Eye Affecting Vision
Entire story:
http://www.indystar.com/print/articles/cnotes31.html
Clipped from the Indianapolis Star article: Although sweaty from an
afternoon of work under a searing sun, it was a stylish Peyton
Manning who addressed the media on Monday.
A pair of trendy sunglasses covered the eyes of the Indianapolis
Colts quarterback.
"Believe me,' Manning said, "it's not a fashion thing.'
A necessary accessory is more like it.
A virus has infected Manning's right eye, forcing him to wear shades.
When the team practices during the daytime, as was the case Monday,
his eye is protected by a tinted shield that has been attached to the
face mask of his helmet.
Manning said he met with a doctor on Monday who told him he had "sort
of a damaged cornea.
"It's real sensitive to light. That's why you see the Hollywood look
with the shades and the visor.'
Manning said he has blurred vision in his right eye and the only
remedy is time.
"There is no medication you can take,' he said. "You have to let (the
virus) run its course.
"They say it could be seven to 10 days. Hopefully, it will clear up.'
Until it does, Manning said he's been quarantined.
"I've got my own towels and rags,' he said. "I don't want to spread
it to other guys.'
Manning is optimistic the condition won't keep him from participating
when the Colts travel to Nashville, Tenn., for joint work with the
Tennessee Titans on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
///////////////// OUR VIEW /////////////////////////////
Certainly, we'll be watching this very closely. Any of you parents
out there know how easily eye viruses like pinkeye and such can be
transferred. Let's hope it clears up just as the docs say. I
don't think this is anything to worry about at this point. It's
really more one of those stories that get's pounced on because of who
he is. We'll watch it closely for you. In the meantime, get a
kick out of one of the nicest guys in the NFL looking like Jim
McMahon...

Titans Looking at Errict Rhett?
Entire story:
http://www.tennessean.com/sports/titans/ar.../07096010.shtml?
Element_ID=7096010 Clipped from the Jim Wyatt article: Training
camp is less than a week old for the Titans, but as each day passes
the need for running-back depth is becoming more obvious.
How obvious? Because of Jonathan Linton's foot injury and Mike
Green's bout with the heat yesterday, the Titans were down to just
one healthy running back (rookie Dan Alexander) at the end of morning
practice.
Linton's left foot was placed in a protective boot Sunday, but he
isn't expected to miss much time with a swollen arch.
Green, meanwhile, had to be treated with four bags of intravenous
fluids following the morning session. He was back on the field in the
afternoon.
The developments prompted Titans General Manager Floyd Reese to step
up his search for help. Included in his conversations yesterday was
one with the agent for veteran Errict Rhett, who was released by the
Browns over the weekend.
Eugene Mato, who represents Rhett, said he spoke with Reese
yesterday. Mato said the Titans indicated they'd like to have Rhett
come to town for a physical in the next day or so.
''It is an opportunity and they do like him a lot,'' Mato said.
''We called to see what he is going to do and what his plans are,''
Reese said. ''It is a long shot, but at best we'd get him in and give
him a physical and see if he's healthy and go from there.''
Jacksonville is also interested in Rhett, Mato said.
Another possibility is former Western Kentucky running back Rod
Smart, best known for wearing the jersey which read ''He Hate Me'' in
the XFL.
''There are two or three guys out there,'' Reese said. ''It is just a
matter of trying to get somebody.''
///////////////// OUR VIEW /////////////////////////////
He Hate Me in the NFL? A sure sign of the Apocalypse… Seriously,
Rhett might be a great fit. I have to admit I was surprised to see
the Browns let him go. He's a hard runner and a hard worker. Plus
he talks a mile a minute and makes life easy for guys like me looking
for funny quotes… I'd like to see him in there and see what he
could do behind that Tennessee O-Line.

LeBeau Nixes Frerotte Report
Entire story:
http://bengals.enquirer.com/2001/07/31/ben_lebeau_nixes.html
Clipped from the Mark Curnutte article: Coach **** LeBeau and another
top Bengals official said there's no truth to a report that the
Bengals might be trying to trade for Broncos backup QB Gus Frerotte.
The report in the Denver Post said the Bengals were unhappy with
their three quarterbacks - Jon Kitna, Scott Mitchell and Akili Smith.
The Bengals courted Frerotte as an unrestricted free agent in the
offseason and reportedly offered him the same deal — four years, $14
million including $4 million to sign — as Kitna.
Frerotte reportedly wanted an "out" clause in the deal if he wasn't
the starter.
Frerotte re-signed for one year in Denver, which has four
quarterbacks in camp.
"The Bengals might be interested. It wouldn't sur prise me," Frerotte
told the Post Sunday.
LeBeau will announce today his quarterback order for the Bears game
in Chicago Saturday night, but it's expected to be similar to
Saturday's intrasquad scrimmage with Kitna playing the first quarter.
He also said he would decide on his regular-season starter, "in a
couple of weeks."
///////////////// OUR VIEW /////////////////////////////
Follow up to the story we told you about yesterday. As I said last
night, you have to take it into account when a Denver paper is
writing about the Bengal QB job. Sounds like the Bengals will be
content to go with one of their guys. I expect it to be Kitna.

Patrick Jeffers Hopes To Be Ready For Opener
Entire story:
http://www.charlotte.com/panthers/pub/panthers0731.htm Clipped from
the Pat Yasinskas article: -- Carolina Panthers wide receiver Patrick
Jeffers said Monday he is targeting the preseason finale for his
return from knee surgery.
If all goes well, Jeffers said he would try to play in the Aug.31
game against Cleveland at Ericsson Stadium.
"That would probably be a realistic goal," Jeffers said in his first
public comments since having surgery a week ago. "Obviously, we're
going to err on the side of caution with this. I've had enough
setbacks already. If anything, I'll probably be more careful than not
this time."
Coach George Seifert confirmed the target date, but said nothing is
certain.
"There may be a setback or there might be something that, all of the
sudden, develops where he might be ahead of schedule," Seifert
said. "It could be not until we get into the season. It's one of
those things, it's kind of out there right now.
///////////////// OUR VIEW /////////////////////////////
Seifert pretty much summed it up: It's kind of "out there" right
now. The news is encouraging though as many had feared it might be
longer. Players are notoriously optimistic though (especially in
July) so take this more on Seiferts level as opposed to what Jeffers
says. I still like Donald Hayes there to see some action.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
That'll do it for today, Folks. David Dodds will be taking over the
reins tomorrow for me. Have a good one.
