FOOTBALLGUYS MAGAZINE JUST ARRIVED (1 Viewer)

Another great read. Although, after a quick perusal I didn't see anything on auction drafting. Is the auction community so small that it doesn't make sense (financially) to include that kind of info in the mag?

It rated the lowest in our survey. We generally threw out the features that scored the lowest in this survey to make everything fit (added stat boxes required extra pages, etc)

I thought it was interesting that Reggie Bush was on the cover. This deviates from their reasoning of Tiki being on the cover last year (that being value in later rounds that could be had). Curious to know their reasoning for Bush being on the cover this year. I haven't read the Bush article yet so maybe there are clues there.

Last year our valued plays and overvalued players were the features with the highest ratings in our survey. So we decided to focus on that concept of Boom or Bust? and love him or hate him, people are on both sides of the fence in regards to Reggie Bush this season. Plus we figured 80% of the magazines would have Larry Johnson, Shaun Alexander or LaDainian Tomlinson. We thought a picture of Bush in a Saints uniform would both be rare and stand out on the news stands.

I even got mine in Massachusetts, so I'm guessing all the ones that were sent out on thursday have gotten in people's mailboxes Saturday.

No golden ticket here

Thanks, David!

Here is hoping that I am like Charlie, and find the last Golden Ticket sent, since my family ordered for me Thursday! :D

I'm surprised that auctioning rated so low. I had thought that the FBGs community was in a general agreement that it was the fairest way to allocate players (nothing against a draft). Guess not.

I think that while that may be the consensus among the experienced/veteran players who seek out good info, there are probably 10 fish for every 1 or two such vets, and its harder to actually form such leagues, especially among our local/casual leagues. The ease of forming the non-auction leagues perpetuates their existense and the demand for non-auction support. More serious players will be subscribers who can get auction info from the online service of their choice. As for the main topic, got my magazine Saturday (thanks for the priority mail), and unfortunately no golden ticket or coupons...just the advertising insert everyone got.

I'd like to say, if any of you golden ticket winners OR insert winners decide not to use any element of your prize package (ie: this year's FFTOC entry, etc) feel free to send that part my way ;)

Everyone got the green insert right? Offers free minicamp reports and $3 off this year's FBGuys subscription?

Also, live in NJ so NJ got their mags. Great work Dodds and co.

I got my magazine yesterday.

No Golden Ticket, but I did get one of the other special inserts "Free Gold Level Management for RTSports.com - an $89.95 value"

Needless to say, I am happy with the magazine and the insert.

Thanks David and Joe!

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I live in Delaware.

I do know the whereabouts of Golden Ticket #3! My WCOFF partner got it on Saturday and called me in a burst of excitement. I told her to come post here but she's having her laptop redone and hasn't made it here yet. She must have known it was coming because when I asked her if I should buy a copy of the mag as well to give us TWO chances at a Ticket, she told me to not bother. :D

BTW, Ohio here.

Are you 'hinting' this is fixed? :o

I understand those who want to express their happiness in receiving these "golden tickets." I realize the thrill of anticipation and the agony of disappointment, blah blah blah, if you don't get one, but why do people feel the need to tell everyone if they didn't get a ticket? Seriously? It baffles me.

I, for one, will absolutely keel over and die laughing if DonnyT33 preordered the mag and finds within it's pages, a Golden Ticket...

...oh, the irony...

Just for the sake of seeing the :tfp: ...

...wouldn't it be tempting, if you found one, to contact him, and offer it to him, at a hefty price?

Not putting ideas in anyone's head or anything... :stirspot:

I did not know about this and just ordered the magazine yesterday. Were all the prizes already mailed out or do I have a chance.

So, is it true that only magazines ordered on June 15th or earlier will be eligible for the prizes (golden tickets, etc.)?

Yes, these prizes are for pre-order only.

How about an eFBG Auction by anyone wanting to auction their ticket? My mag hasn't came yet, but if I don't get a golden ticket, I'd be interested in buying someone elses.

David...do you or Joe disapprove of this?

I would hope not. They should have been put in the pre-order magazines randomly prior to any mailouts. Otherwise, it could be construed as false advertising for those who ordered the last few days or up until the deadline.

Buffalo, NY mags arrived... but no ticket... just the coupon insert sheet... guess i should have bought multiple mags!! lol

Only if the auction funds go to charity. No individual FBG should get to profit from this.

Checking in from Hawaii... didn't come in the mail yesterday... hoping it's Monday. I leave early Tuesday morning for a conference... was hoping to be able to read it on the plane flight. Will keep you posted...

I think the majority of magazines will get to people in the US on Monday or Tuesday. My parents mailed about 2,500 on Thursday and Friday mornings and will mail another 700 on Monday (The Monday mailings are on magazines ordered on June 14th or later)

My parents added the 54 inserts and 12 golden tickets all the way through June 15th orders as stated on the website. So yes.

So the international orders going out on Monday won't have tickets in them? Even if they were ordered on the 11th?

i think the pre-order bonus cutoff (6-15) referred to purchase, not ship date...

The cutoff date was based on order date. International orders have inserts in them too.

If you get a gold ticket do you win a date with BGP?

I looked for the magazine in the stores last year with no luck. Has the distribution expanded this year?

We printed 85,000 in 2005 and 105,000 this year.

Hey, if you haven't listened to them already, a good timekiller in lieu of the magazine are the podcasts. I had to use explorer to download them (firefox did NOT work) but I crammed HOURS of FF onto my Creative MuVo MP3 player weeks ago, and just listening to it 5, 10 minutes at a time when I get those occasional lulls in my day, I still haven't heard it all. You might be able to kill it on a plane trip though... Good stuff, too. Except for a few of them that frustrate a little with some sound issues on Lamneys microphone, but if that bothers you too much you can skip those. Anyway, just thought you might benefit if you haven't caught any of those 3 podcasts (broken into many more files than that). Its not the magazine, but it feeds the FF jones.

Thank God I trashed that microphone. What did you think of the most recent Podcast? TIA

What did you think of the most recent Podcast?
I am still eating it up. But I was just hunting around to make sure that the Hawaiin bro would know where to look, and I can't find the links now. Did they take them down? I saw something saying they are working out bugs and the weekly podcast is expected to debut in July...was that older? Man if they took the links down, I sure am glad I downloaded it already. But yeah...I am looking forward to every podcast, from here on out. There are so many times a day that I am just twiddling my thumbs in line or on the road, whatever, and I am not big into music...its ok, but if I can fix the FF jones? No contest. Keep em coming! And Cecil, I sent you a LinkedIn invitation earlier today...hope you consider it.Not to hijack here, either...I already posted my lack of luck on the ticket. I sure was hoping though. I would like to see the prize packages broken up even smaller next year and showered down upon the FBG online subcribers like confetti...an FFTOC entry here, an online discount there...I would accept smaller overall prizes for better odds. Of course that would mean Mr. Dodd's Mom and Dad would have to stuff even more magazines with various inserts, lol. ;)
